To help us narrow down the source of the issue, please include the following information in your comment:
  • Which platform do you experience this on?
  • If you play on PC, then which version of Windows do you have installed - 7, 8, 10 or 11?
  • If you play on PC, then which version of the game do you own - the Minecraft launcher version, the Microsoft Store version, the Steam version, or some other version?
  • If you have the Minecraft launcher version, then are you using the old launcher (for Windows 7 and 8) or the new launcher?
  • If you have the Microsoft Store version, then are you logged into the game with the same account as the Store?
  • Are you playing the game through the Xbox Game Pass? If yes, are you using family sharing?
  • Are you playing alone, or are there others who play the game on the same device? If yes, do you use the same account or separate ones?
Note

The blank white window is usually caused by connection issues when the game attempts to connect to servers. Whenever this issue arises, please ensure that you have a stable Internet connection and then see if restarting the game will resolve the problem.

Also, please make sure to go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft and delete the following files:

  • launcher_msa_credentials.bin
  • launcher_msa_credentials.json
  • launcher_msa_credentials.bin.dungeons

Other suggested solutions:

A ) Setting the game's EXE file to "Run as Administrator".

B ) Logging out and then back in to the game's launcher, as opposed to the game itself.

C ) Reinstalling the game in a different folder.

After latest update and purchasing latest DLC, it goes through open screen.  Press any button to start.  Press button on controller, and window opens asking me to sign in to Xbox Live account.  Do so.  Says welcome back CorManBarbarian.  Button "Let's Play!".  Click on button, window turns white then sits there for an eternity as music plays.  Never gets into game.  Rebooted and checked for updates... none.  Never had any problems prior to this update, and played the update the day before and while it crashed once, I was able to get back in.  But today, it's toast.

Luke Adler Oliver - 2021-02-26 07:30

I had the exact same problem. However, I just tried getting in and it worked. I'd suggest giving it a try as it may have been fixed.

Patrick TISSOT - 2021-02-27 18:46

J'ai exactement le même problème. Depuis la dernière mise à jour, je ne peux plus lancer le jeu sur XBOX one.

Richard Morgan - 2021-03-25 19:10

I have the same problem, but I have stable internet, and I get to the white box(I think it is the login box), I wait a little while, I click on the X in the top right corner, and it stays on the campfire redstone-block loading screen. Happens every time.

Richard Morgan - 2021-03-25 19:14

Wait, never mind. Try running as administrator if it doesn't load or work. Just worked for me!

Luís S. - 2021-03-27 00:30

I have the same problem as MCD-5392 (which was closed as duplicate of this ticket). My connection is stable, tried running as administrator but it did not work. Started happening after I installed 1.8.6.0 on Windows, launcher version.

Luís S. - 2021-03-27 21:40

I managed to fix my problem by logging out on the launcher and then logging in again. No progress was lost, neat.

Topher Detmering - 2021-04-23 19:34

It worked!!! thanks

William Wang - 2021-04-23 19:51

Good job - it worked - thanks a lot - best regards

Shqdøwshqrd - 2021-05-14 02:21

Happened to me too except im on xbox. Works with other accounts but not my main one.

[MCQA] Bartłomiej Słodkowski - 2021-05-21 13:30

Setting this to be without an ADO number, since while it is a legitimate issue, it is not something that can be fixed, as per Kristian Grimberg:

"This window is part of XSAPI, which is not handled by the Mojang team. Causes could be non-responsive backend/network issues (as Olle said).

As of now, I don't think this will get fixed. We have to update XSAPI for it, which means we run a big risk of breaking existing functionality. It might be fixed in the future, but I don't think we will have any tracker on it in the Mojang team."

abdullahe - 2021-05-22 00:58

that happend to me on my windows 7 computer

abdullahe - 2021-05-22 01:01

when is dis going to be fixed i want to play minecraft dungeons again?!

[MCQA] Bartłomiej Słodkowski - 2021-05-24 10:04

@abdullahe Have you tried the suggestions listed in the yellow note?

Key Stahl - 2021-05-28 14:14

Than you so Much

Kiril Kretos - 2021-06-02 22:47

Logged out of the account and logged in again, it worked.

Abdullah - 2021-06-07 02:06

not happening to me

Trey Pipkins - 2021-06-13 20:26

Commanding the launcher to log out of my Microsoft account, closing and re-entering the credentials seems to work.

Jon S - 2021-06-21 19:31

Definitely seems to be a launcher bug.  I'll try logging out of the launcher since launching Dungeons.exe manually works just fine (doing it's own auth flow).

Zoria - 2021-08-04 01:57

last version of the game on pc, still stuck with this problem...

Amelia Boomker - 2021-08-29 23:49

Encountered this today. There is an additional task running underneath minecraft dungeons that may be part of the problem. this is UnrealCEFSubProcess.

Maya Harpia Pereira dos Santos - 2021-11-04 05:21

This issue will have a 1 year anniversary soon, maybe we will get a white cape with an "x" or an animated one with a loading loading screen?

Victor S - 2021-11-16 00:19

So I have tried all 3 of the suggested actions and none of them worked, still having the issue. I'm confused on what to do next? Seems to have been an issue for a while now...

Mark Shoemaker - 2021-11-22 23:01

Commenting to say that after updating this morning, we are now encountering this issue on PC. Completely blocked from playing.
Please advise! Is there a logfile we can attach?
We can't find the game executable to test that route.

nejento - 2021-11-27 01:09

This is just unacceptable. I bought the game and now I'm unable to play it, just because there is some secondary login ingame even though I launched the game via the new Microsoft Store Minecraft Launcher that logs me in via Microsoft Account?

I reinstalled the game to a different, I relogged my Microsoft account but the last thing that solved the issue is running the game as administrator. I'm sorry, but this is not a long term acceptable solution due to MANY security reasons. You just aren't supposed to run games as an administrator. That's just very bad.

Why can't you fix the basic stuff as letting users log in to their account? Why other companies that have much worse reputation do better at logging people in? Why is there is no reaction what so ever from the team who's job is to make this thing work?

Gabriel Lopez - 2021-11-30 17:53

Hello, for those who are still clear about the problem, here I attach an image, so far my son and I have not been able to play Dungeons.

Brady bordeau - 2021-12-01 10:08

All you need to do is log out and back in I had the same problem and logged out of Minecraft and back in again and that fixed it.

nejento - 2021-12-01 18:21

Hi @Brady bordeau That's not necessarily true. In my case logging off and logging in again didn't help at all. The only effective solution was running the game as administrator.

Gabriel Lopez - 2021-12-02 12:30

Still no luck, but I found the following comment on a youtube video, for me it works:

omer the gamer

workaround: Run it from here - C:\Users@YourPCUserName@\AppData\Local\Mojang\products\dungeons\dungeons\Dungeons\Binaries\Win64Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe

You need to log in again (for the first time)

Florian - 2021-12-16 12:32

This game is so dumb, i migrate my mojang account and sice i can't play Dungeons, the Luncher is a very big shit ! He doesn't want to connect me, i log out log in, reinstall the game 3 times, I have a good connection, the only solution is to go on the Minecraft Dungeons installation folder and to lunch the app in.. Just pls stop code the launcher with you'r A** and everyone will be happy.

Christian Hammel-Woitusch - 2021-12-18 19:40

Same here. The game is not abletolog on - it even does nocht mention when I logged in. What kind of crap is this ?  Mojang/Microsoft - start programming good stuff - not buggy crap.
I'm really disappointed. without all that launcher stuff that tried to "unify" things (an never worked as intended) it was working better...

And pls search fast for a solution which does NOT need to "run as adminitrator"  nowadays this should not be necessary anymore...  beside that it's a severe security issue....

That's a no go !

N Lebou - 2022-01-03 12:44

Same problem for me. Cannot play anymore. White square from hell instead of my characters, and then red cube rotating endlessly...

I tried all the listed solutions (delog / relog, command run, install reinstall, change install folder, etc.) with no effet.

Please submit something else or patch this quickly !!!

[Mojang] Big Beak - 2022-01-08 02:46

For those who have experienced this issue recently, has this resolved itself or is still an issue? It could have been due to a service outage but please let me know!

Jake - 2022-01-08 06:29

I obviously can't speak for the entire Minecraft community, but for me, this issue is still present.

Id also like to note that I attempted all the solutions above with no success.

Shaun mason - 2022-01-08 07:43

Same here still having this problem.

Shaun mason - 2022-01-08 08:18

Got my game to work by running the Dungeons.exe instead of loding it throw the minecraft launcher. The game doesnt work through the launcher but does work from the Dungeons.exe for me.

Jake - 2022-01-08 08:47

Its not the final solution, but how does one find the .exe file?

Shaun mason - 2022-01-08 09:09

I uploaded an image of where mine is. Mine is not in the default location.

[Helper] osfanbuff63 - 2022-01-12 22:45

I was affected by this issue - but ran the file from C:\Users\<YourPCUsername>\AppData\Local\Mojang\products\dungeons\dungeons\Dungeons\Binaries\Win64Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe and when launching from the launcher it worked again. See this comment.
To access this, press Windows key +R, and paste the file path that I typed above. Of course, replace <YourPCUsername> with your PC's username.

Andrew Johnson - 2022-01-14 21:41

This is still an issue for me.  Signing out and back into the launcher does not fix it.  The only way to make it to work is to directly run the executable elevated but I consider this a nasty workaround and not an actual fix.

Interestingly, if I run Process Monitor and look for Access Denied errors, there are none from the filesystem, only from the registry (and they all look irrelevant):

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinSock2\Parameters

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SecurityManager\CapAuthz

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\ClockData

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EnterpriseCertificates

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates

HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaResources

I've omitted the subkeys that were flagged under these locations.

PaisleyPatch - 2022-01-14 23:32

I'm still having this issue. I have tried all the fixes. For me, it started with the new launcher. I bought the game through the Mojang website about 18 months ago. I had no trouble until installing the new launcher. I can run it from the Dungeons.exe file, but I do not like having to do that.

Hipposgrumm - 2022-03-02 15:16

I used the old launcher and it worked fine.

[MCQA] Bartłomiej Słodkowski - 2022-03-23 14:37

The ticket has been updated with a series of questions that might help us narrow down the source of the issue. Please answer them in the comments if possible.

Andrew Johnson - 2022-03-23 20:47

Windows 10 21H2 x64
Launcher Version
Launcher is I believe the new one.  It's v1.0.159.0
No game pass in use.
Only one Microsoft Account used on this PC - for both Windows and the launcher.

Thanks.

zzahkaboom24 - 2022-03-26 18:21
  • PC
  • Windows 11 64-Bit v21H2 (22000.556)
  • I am using the new launcher v2.2.11105
  • Yes, in both minecraft store as the minecraft launcher I logged in with the same microsoft account, when logging out friom the xbox and xbox companion app i also logged in with the same microsoft account on the actual Minecraft Dungeons game
  • No, I bought the game as a code from a local store which i redeemed therefore getting access to the game on the Microsoft Store. I bought it.
  • I am playing alone

Slight notice, I dont get any white square, its just stuck on the loading screen. I "was" getting a white square but a restart fixed this for me, however now I am just stuck on the loading screen where the redstone block is endlessly turning.

Minecraft Dungeons also isnt frozen or anything, everything looks normal:

Williams Thennet Duque - 2022-04-16 20:37

Same problem. I can't play since this issue.

Roy Rasera - 2022-04-18 06:09

Had this issue 5-8 months ago and forget what I did to fix it.  Might have been merging mojang and microsoft accounts, or just logging out of the launcher and logging back into the launcher.  Can't figure it out this time.

Which platform do you experience this on?   This is PC, Win10

I got the game originally through BetaTest/PreRelease, then upgraded to Hero edition with its launcher, then got every DLC as it came out, then launchers seem to have merged and now on the java/win10/dungeons combined launcher.   Haven't played for a few months but wanted to get back in for Season2.  I assume that's the newest launcher.

Not playing through GamePass.

The computer I use is my game only. My kids each have their own games on their computers.

Please let me know how to fix this!!!   -DroydTDR

Brancher - 2022-04-18 06:25

had this issue and I just quit the game tbh

Brad Peterson - 2022-04-18 08:56

Been experiencing this bug for a couple of weeks on my son's computer.  The only thing that has worked is to locate the .exe in the Local folder, and run it as administrator.

>Which platform do you experience this on?
PC Windows 10 and 11 (upgraded Windows to try to fix it, no luck)

>If you play on PC, then which version of the game do you own - the Minecraft launcher version
Microsoft Launcher version I believe.  I'm using the newest launcher.  I've tried uninstalling it from the launcher three times and reinstalling. One time I also had it remove all settings.

> Are you playing the game through the Xbox Game Pass?
No.

>Are you playing alone, or are there others who play the game on the same device?
Alone.

When I locate the .exe in the C:\users folder in the locals\mojang folder, then right clik to run as administrator and enter my pin, then that white screen turned into a microsoft login prompt.  He was able to log in with his microsoft account.  Then everything worked.

Collin Schofield - 2022-04-20 04:18

One way that will fix this is find the file that opens the Minecraft Dungeons and create a shortcut then drag it to your desktop then open it. It should work.

xywos032 - 2022-04-21 17:20
Arktilles - 2022-04-25 21:50

I also have this problem.

>Which platform do you experience this on?
PC Win 11

>If you play on PC, then which version of the game do you own - the Minecraft launcher version
Minecraft Launcher version

> Are you playing the game through the Xbox Game Pass?

No.

>Are you playing alone, or are there others who play the game on the same device?
Alone.

Mantaray52 - 2022-04-27 06:59

When loading from the launcher, the Dungeons process is started with the following arguments:

-launcherDir C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft -activeUser <remoteid>

This folder carries over from previous versions of the launcher and can contain credential BIN and setting/profile JSON files from older versions.  Even using the newest version of the launcher from the Microsoft Store I found that when launching dungeons, it ignores the new versions of these files (which contain "microsoft_store" in the filenames and it instead tries to load the old ones.  In my case, checking disk access with Process Monitor I saw the Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe process try to load the following files:

launcher_msa_credentials.bin

launcher_msa_credentials.json

launcher_msa_credentials.bin.dungeons

If these files don't exist, Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe will still look for them but move on if it doesn't find them.  Presumably this behavior is intended to maintain compatibility between Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe and other versions of the launchers but it causes this issue when there are remnants from previous launcher installs after upgrading to the new Miscrosoft Store Minecraft launcher.

The file access can be seen in the image I attached named MCDungeonsLaunch.jpg.  The upper entries were with the old files still present.  The entries in the red rectangle are what occur if the launcher folder does NOT contain those files.

Andrew Johnson - 2022-04-28 19:59

@Mantaray52

I can confirm that deleting those "launcher_msa_credentials.*" files on my machine has fixed the problem for me!  Many thanks for finding the fix!!!

Arktilles - 2022-04-28 20:51

@Mantaray52 - I also have tried deleting the "launcher_msa_credentials.*" files, and yes that fixed the problem for me too.  Thanks!!

SmartAngel - 2022-05-02 12:57

@Mantaray52 - Can't agree more .

Your suggestions about deleting the "launcher_msa_credentials.*" files are effective and my game was back to normal !

bubbaninja - 2022-05-07 21:18

My two bits worth after wasting WAY too much time on getting this game running again.  In my situation it boils down to the launcher not using the proper executable (or so it seems).  After digging through a few folders which amounts to something like this: "\dungeons\dungeons\Dungeons\Binaries\Win64" you will find "Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe".  Use this executable and see if it fixes your problem.  It loaded the game and then eventually had me sign/re-sign (who knows...) into my Microsoft Live account, which then brought me to the in-game start/character select screen like it was supposed to be doing all the time.  My suggestion to Microsoft/Mojang is check your "hyperlink" in the launcher and make sure it is pointing to the proper executable.  UGH!!  All of this needs to be simplified and it is only getting more bollixed up with a never ending array of launchers, .exe files, and what ever else that can be thrown into the burning dumpster fire of unrelenting Microsoft acquisitions. It's too much to hope that this fixes this problem for everyone, but hopefully it will help some.

Irfon Hughes Calvin - 2022-05-08 21:24

A simple solution is to bookmark the Dungeons window when the game starts. If you do not open the game from the launcher and instead open it from the bookmarks bar, the game will open normally. Left-click on the dungeon's logo in the bookmarks bar and select the "Pin to Taskbar". This way, you don't need the launcher at all.

MRkingpiglin - 2022-05-13 22:15

where can i find 'launcher_msa_credentials', cause if mojang aint gonna fix this dumb issue that's been around for months for me, then ill just have to do it myself

Mantaray52 - 2022-05-14 19:34

@MRKingpiglin it should be in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft  with a typical install.  It's your minecraft launcher install folder.

MRkingpiglin - 2022-05-15 17:11

@Mantaray52 you are an angel. it finally works

derekbuck82 - 2022-09-30 23:08

bubbaninja's method works for me, nothing Microsoft suggested helped at all.

ItsRajcatovyDzus - 2022-12-22 10:53

Help. I am stuck at blank black box

Jesse - 2022-12-22 19:42

Do I need to mail my computer to Microsoft for this to be fixed?

I'm using Win10

Minecraft Launcher version of Dungeons

I'm using the same account for Xbox, MS Store, and the MC Launcher

My account is not shared with anyone, although other people have logged in previously on this computer under a separate Windows login and profile, using their own Microsoft accounts

Clearing the certificate files did fix the issue for exactly one game session, and then the issue returned the next day I wanted to play.

Also worth mentioning, the issue happens on my windows 10laptop, but not my windows 10 desktop.

My friend had the same problem with his windows 10 desktop computer.

Warning - Try this at your own risk!!! may or may not work for others.

I had this problem with the white/blank popup after trying to log in, after trying (and failing) all the advice from official sources and all these comments, I have now managed to fix this. My attempts included insane amounts of uninstalling and reinstalling and everything else. I even installed a fresh windows in a VM and ran the game in that to rule out any issue with my physical hardware or network. In the end I concluded that there was no issue on my end and that the problem was surely a case of permissions. I found that deleting the contents of the windows Credential Manager eventually solved the issue for me, so presumably the issue was with some corrupted credential that was stored. Before I cleared the manager contents I had a LOT of entries and I used a script (shown at end) to delete them automatically cause they are a pain to delete manually. This will also log you out of a bunch of other apps/services but not a big deal imo. If you want to be a bit more cautious and only delete the Xbox ones then I suggest all the ones that start with XblGrts| - I have no idea if you need to delete them all or not so you can try doing just the DeviceKey maybe or going through one by one, is up to you but I'd say delete them all really to save some time. Location is Control Panel > User Accounts > Credential Manager, then under  Windows Credentials. Easiest way is to just click start menu and begin typing the word credential, for me it pops up after only cr is typed. If you are going to use the script then save the text into a new text file and make sure it has a file extension of .bat and then right click and Run as administrator.

Script Text: (unable to upload bat files)

@echo off
cmdkey.exe /list > "%TEMP%\List.txt"
findstr.exe Target "%TEMP%\List.txt" > "%TEMP%\tokensonly.txt"
FOR /F "tokens=1,2 delims= " %%G IN (%TEMP%\tokensonly.txt) DO cmdkey.exe /delete:%%H
del "%TEMP%\List.txt" /s /f /q
del "%TEMP%\tokensonly.txt" /s /f /q
echo All done
pause

Happy Birthday MCD-5306!

CRR1119 - 2023-04-06 16:32

I had this problem back in june and I fixed it somehow with the help of the bug forum and a friend. But now it has appeared again and I can't remember how i fixed it. Alone the fact that this issue exist since february of 2021 and is still not fixed is.. not nice.
I am going insane because of Microsoft istg i will eat my desk

CRR1119 - 2023-04-06 19:36

I fixed it lessgooo.
I think the problem was caused because I changed my Microsoft password.
ok so:

  • Windows + R
    -type in: %appdata%
-find the ".minecraft" folder and open it
    -find launcher_msa_credentials.bin and delete

now you can open the minecraft launcher, log in, start dungeons and bam

pickkl - 2023-08-09 22:16

I've tried pretty much everything here and nothing works, is there a way to just get a refund for the game?

eemby - 2023-12-28 19:47

I made an account just to comment and say that the @turtle1980 method worked. I didn't run the script, but I went to the Windows Credential Manager and removed the relevant XblGrts entries that had been modified today since I just installed the game today. There was also a credential with Mojang in its title that I removed. After removing those credentials, I signed out of the Xbox GamePass app on PC, signed in, and once I launched the game I was able to get fully logged in and didn't have the white box.

This was after I tried every other solution online, but none of them worked. @turtle1980's method finally solved the issue, so thanks.

[Mod] Greymagic27 - 2024-01-22 19:27

WF as per ADO

[Mod] GoldenHelmet - 2024-07-03 22:20

If you get this error you can also try loading the game through the XBox app instead of the launcher or Windows menu.
