What is the most embarrassing thing you've done or said as a new player?

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ MageFood ยท 1619 points ยท Posted at 06:57:47 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

In my very first dungeon, my friend said, "Just dot everything you see." So I ran my lock way ahead of the tank and dotted /everything/. We wiped.

Oh, and the first time I heard "You mad bro?" I asked my guild what that meant. Their response: "It's just something trolls say." I thought they meant trolls, as in the race, so I asked what I should say as a tauren.

Thankfully those years are far behind me. It's both hilarious and painful to remember.

Choosing the agility/strength 1h sword from the Scarlet Monastery quest on my warlock, and then dropping my tailoring profession to take enchanting so I could slap a red glow beast slayer on that bad boy.

I always remember some dude on the zeppelin telling me I was using the wrong stats but I ignored him because red shiny sword look nice.

My boomkin had gotten into a mara full clear and got the mace to drop off princess.

Now I had just gotten moonkin and noticed that melees can restore mana. Slapped a firey enchant on that boy and used it all the way until burning crusade.

Pretty. Also pretty useless.

I had something similar. On my first toon, a warlock, I hit need on the cruel barb sword in deadmines. I remember some angry players in my group

Spiffers1972 ยท 17 points ยท Posted at 23:36:52 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Mine was similar to yours. Back in vanilla people told me about โ€œrolling for lootโ€ if something dropped that I could use. Sooooo loot drops and up comes this window with some dice, some gold coins and a pass buttons. Rollโ€ฆ what do your do with dice? You roll them! So after about 5 drops of needing on items the group explained to me what I was doing and why it wasnโ€™t the right button to click. <embarrassed panda face>

DutchmanDavid ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:42:51 on October 3, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah, as someone who started playing about a year ago, even though I've only played a few Dungeons, need and greed still confuse me. I understand they're jargon from way before wow (like "proc"), but holy shit are they bad words to convey information.

TrumpDidNothingRight ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 17:09:48 on October 12, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Not at all

Itโ€™s just a two tiered system, you canโ€™t win the roll of you roll greed and one other person rolls need.

DutchmanDavid ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:25:50 on October 15, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Technically it's fine. It's just the semantics of the words. If I really wanted an item it would make sense to be greedy, except it does the opposite of what I would expect and makes it easier to be 'passed' on the item instead...

mooninomics ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 15:50:02 on October 4, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I had a somewhat similar one too. My first character way back in classic was a tauren warrior. A friend and I wanted to run Wailing Caverns, so we started looking for people to group with. Somebody asked if I could tank and I said sure! I tended to hit kind of hard and tanks do lots of damage with their cannon, right? Tanking must mean doing lots of damage. That must be it!

So not only did I try to tank by smacking things as hard as possible with a two-handed sword, I had no idea how dungeons worked. Blue leather gloves dropped and I immediately freaked out. I'd never seen a blue before, they're rare! So rare it was probably worth a lot of money on the auction house! Maybe even a whole gold! I asked what the difference was between the rolls and ended up needing on it. I beat the druid in our group who desperately wanted them, then proceeded to drop group, hearth to Thunder Bluff and learn what bind on pickup meant.

I love the transmog system for this reason. I want the ability to craft a specific look for my character and hated trying to make it look decent again every time you start collecting a new tier of armor.

Omg I rememeber doing this. I brought a common staff and spent pretty much all my money on it thinking I was going to do more damage

ihsw ยท 44 points ยท Posted at 16:42:37 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I remember looking at the staff vendor in Thunder Bluff thinking, "God damn I can't wait until I reach level 31 to buy that Battle Staff that costs 3g. It's expensive but it's such a big upgrade over my gray quality gear that dropped off quest mobs in The Barrens."

It was a simpler time.

I also leveled like 10 shamans to level 20, because that was the max level for starter accounts. Reach level 20? Delete it and start over.

My first character was a druid, and I tried to walk to Moonglade for the bear quest because I did not realize that I had learned the teleport to Moonglade spell.

And it didn't just stop after trying to get to Felwood and realizing I'd never make it because I was level 10 in a 40+ zone. I also walked back after many deaths and tried my best to walk up a waterfall in Darkshore that I thought would have lead to the route to get to Moonglade.

It took hours before I actually decided to ask in chat how I was supposed to get to Moonglade.

Demo244 ยท 145 points ยท Posted at 10:33:58 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I did the opposite, teleported to moonglade and tried to walk out. The grave yard it sent me to was in the middle of felwood. A passet by asked me how a level 10 got there and told me to just use my heath stone. Was very helpful.

Ohh I had something similar - didnโ€™t know that Silvermoon City had a teleport to Undercity so I spend a whole afternoon to walk from SC to UC. It wouldnโ€™t had taken so long if I hadnโ€™t been under level 10. I still remember how going through the hostile village full of banshees took ages. I would resurrect as far as possible from the body to make it faster, only to get immediately killed after resurrecting! It certainly took a while, but I did make it in the end!

By some grace of God 13 year old me with my level 19 night elf warrior got into a Deadmines group... as a tank. I had no idea what a tank was. I had no idea what group roles were. The rest of the group kept complaining about me and asking me to please do my job but since I had no idea what I was doing, I said โ€œI donโ€™t want to :Pโ€. One guy seemed to figure out that not only was I a noob of the highest degree but I was also a kid, so he started to defend me and help cover for me. I still think about that guy 14 years later and how he definitely kept the group from kicking me and being vicious to me. I mean, I also think about me coasting through the dungeon without a shield telling the group I โ€œdonโ€™t feel like tankingโ€ to cover up for the fact that I didnโ€™t even know what tanking was... but uh, I prefer to think about the guy who made sure a random kid wasnโ€™t bullied out of a group instead!

DwarfDrugar ยท 94 points ยท Posted at 10:44:32 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

In vanilla, I played an Arms Warrior (still do), but the class description said I was a tank. Logically, I assumed all specs were tank specs and as such I tanked all dungeons with my twohander. I didn't even have a shield or used defensive stance because it'd mean less damage. Healers sometimes complained but most were as clueless as I was so we all just told them to git gud. I kept aggro by just doing tons more damage than everyone else. Easy when you have infinite rage from getting beat up, and Mortal Strike.

So that worked fine-ish for most dungeons, even Stratholme and such. Then my guild's raidgroup asked for a tank for Zul'Gurub one afternoon because their usual one disconnected. Of course, my first raid, hell yeah! First trash pack on our way to Mandokir; immediate wipe because I died in seconds. Prompt admonishment from the raid/guildleader. Confused raidtalk about what the fuck I was doing. I learned a lot that day and have (begrudgingly) tanked with a shield and defensive stance since.

Creepy_Onions ยท 98 points ยท Posted at 12:04:39 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Omg I must have healed you at some point. I remember back in vanilla, sweating and panicking and almost crying, trying to keep some crazy tank alive with my holy priest... hours of wiping in BRD but the group was fun so we kept pushing forward. when we finally finished, the tank thanked me cause I was the first healer who didn't yell at him. I didn't know the first thing about tanking (still don't lol) and I felt sorry for him. One of the dps then whispered me saying that the guy was tanking as dps, not even a shield on him. Which then lead me to my faux pas, telling a fresh death knight on WotLK that I wouldn't heal him as a tank cause he had no shield.

Pete_The_Pilot ยท 18 points ยท Posted at 14:01:49 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Lol you just described how all the warriors level up in classic these days

DwarfDrugar ยท 12 points ยท Posted at 16:26:10 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Friend of mine does classic raiding. He said all the raid tanks in the Classic raids were Arms or Fury because the added damage meant the boss died quicker, which compensated for the healer's mana depleting quicker, with the added bonus of a quicker fight.

I felt pretty vindicated.

Pete_The_Pilot ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 16:42:29 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

At the high end, the main tank is generally a dual-wielding fury/prot hybrid.

However, in this new Season of Mastery release, the Arms Warrior will probably make a comeback in raids because they removed the debuff limit so nobody will have a problem with mortal strike. It was already a great PVP spec so PvP focused players could probably run arms in raids now and avoid re-spec costs.

Which is awesome and alleviates some loot issues, as 2h weapons were previously seen as less desirable because dual wield fury is the most dominant dps spec in the game.

FullMetal1985 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 05:31:13 on October 3, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Did simular with pally in tbc, didn't know about specs or anything, just put stats where they looked interesting. Was able to tank a few lower level dungeons. I just ran dungeons as tank or dps depending on mood, no change to char just go. Got to the first one in outlands someone needed a tank and figured sure I could do it, such a mess, suddenly can't hold aggro, wiping like crazy. Group disbanded before we got through a trash pack or two. Gave up on that char and started a shaman. That went better but still took awhile to figure things out. Looking back no wonder I hated leveling as that pally, horribly misspeced across all 3 specs, probably geared all wrong, surprised I could kill anything at that point. Thinking about it as I type this, I wonder if that pally contributed to the fact that in about 15 years it's only in the last couple months I've been able to convince myself to take up tanking in ff14. Still a nervous wreck every dungeon I que.

BrandnewLeischa ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:04:53 on October 3, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I remember seeing this type of thing happen in a dungeon at least once back in vanilla. A tank who had no idea what the tank spec was, me as a DPS who didn't have a clue about what was exactly wrong with the tank (lol), and everyone else panicking and trying to explain the tank that he wasn't using the right spec and equipment. Poor guy, you could see from his replies that he had no clue what people were talking about. But at least people remained polite.

I leveled my first hunter to level 32 or so in vanilla by mostly meleeing. I knew ammo was something you had to buy, but I was too cheap, and also money was a lot more scarce to new players back then. Copper actually meant something.

[deleted] ยท 44 points ยท Posted at 11:58:46 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

yes. there is some realistic element to all things back then. Limited arrows which you need to restock. Feeding your pet to keep it happy etc etc :)

Drulock ยท 43 points ยท Posted at 12:35:14 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I melee'd as a hunter as well when I started. I would Concussive Shot the mob, auto shot 'til it got close and then my pet and I would melee it.

In TBC, after playing hunter since the beginning, I had apparently forgot to feed my pets and they were VERY unhappy with me. I pulled out my cat, it ran away. I pulled out the next 4 pets, they all ran away. I thought it was a bug so I put up a GM ticket. My response was, effectively, learn to play your class, feed your pet.

Man we hunter noobs had to be THE dumbest of 'em all. I mean pulling every single mob in a dungeon with our pet with no regard for the party's safety and letting your pet aggro EVERYTHING on its way to you is an inevitable classic, but I got one even better.

My dumb 10-year-old self thought my nightsaber pet lost happiness if I killed other nightsabers with him, so I made some unbelievable gymnastics to avoid those mobs all throughout Darkshore and Ashenvale.

In tBC my brothers joined me playing. One rolled a Dranaie and seemed to love it. Then he suddenly stopped playing.

At the time, we were already raiding Kara, so I just assumed he got bored.

Turned out that his gear broke so he thought he has to start over. Sadly, the break paused his momentum so he never finished that Shaman.

We still make fun of him about that.

It took me 2 years to get my one and only character (night elf rogue) to level 60 back in vanilla WoW. I literally made it to 60 the day that The Burning Crusade released.

During those last 2 levels, a friend came over to watch me hit that milestone. He asked why I stood around for a few minutes after each fight. I told him I was waiting for my health to recover so I could fight the next guy. I didn't have any food or potions, so I had to wait.

He then explained that I can make bandages. He stepped in and showed me how to craft bandages and then quickly healed me. Completely changed my world.

I had been playing for 2 years and had no idea bandages were a thing. I had wasted so much time just waiting for my character to slowly recover between fights.

[deleted] ยท 30 points ยท Posted at 13:56:22 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

cobysev ยท 24 points ยท Posted at 14:05:01 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Yes, occasionally. Not enough to heal after every single fight though. At least, not in vanilla WoW. The game has gotten a lot easier since those days, so maybe they are a more common drop nowadays.

Sepelrastas ยท 10 points ยท Posted at 16:46:48 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

lixyna ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 14:05:06 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)*

How do you play for 2 years and never see someone eat/drink/bandage/accidentally look at the tooltip of food in your inventory, or alternatively see it and think "yeah I obviously cant do that for reasons".

Edit: I misread and thought OP waited for HP/MP regen without food for the entire 2 years. Just not knowing about first aid isnt all that bad :D Whoops

Started playing in TBC 2007. I did something very similar with my very first character. I really liked druids due to the trailer. So made one. During the quest where you have to collect those pieces in the underground barrow den, I got lost. And since mobs spawn so quick I just kept getting killed and kept going in circles.

You might think this is the point I gave up. You'd be wrong.

On one death run back I jumped about in wisp form and got stuck in between a tree and the mountainside.

So.

I just deleted my druid and started again lol.

Reminds me of two stories of my owm.

First one was me remembering a friend taking a Zeplin from Tiristfall to some weird city (I now know it's Orgrimmar), so I wanted to do it too, so I took one on my level 10 mage. I ended up in some weird jungle and decided to go on an adventure (I'm sure you all know where this is going). Anyways, I ended up being attacked and killed by a raptor "level skull", then when I used the spirit healer to revive I was constantly attacked by bears, raptors, and panters, dying over and over until I finally figured out how to get back to saftey.

The second is me using the orb to teleport to Silvermoon City then ending up lost in the Blood Elf zones for about half a month when I couldn't find my way back after leaving Silvermoon City (I also ended up chanhing my HS to the inn near the dragon non combat pet vendor).

Back in Vanilla, I made a night elf and dropped down teldrassil (I think thatโ€˜s the tree where NE starter zone is located right?) because I was curious, landed on a branch and died. Since I didnโ€˜t know about reviving at the graveyard, I tried to jump down to that exact branch as a whisp but fell much further to the bottom of the tree, leaving me struggling and in the end deleting my character since I couldnโ€˜t get back to my bodyโ€ฆ

Then after some time, I decided to try out horde and made an Orc on another realm. As I always created Night Elfs before and was used to a very crowded starting zone, I was shocked that the Orc Starting Zone was nearly empty. So as my duty of a good Horde player, I opened a ticket and even called Blizzard to tell them to switch other Horde players to that realm since it was a shame that the Orc starter zone is emptyโ€ฆ I was 13 years old back thenโ€ฆ

Back in early TBC I just started playing. Got a 40ish mage and I was poor as fuck. As in no money to level spells or buy teleport runes poor. I did SFK I believe to sell items. At that point I think the Gods of Warcraft took pity on me and 2 of the best blue twink items dropped. A cloak and a bow? The problem was I had no clue that twinking was a thing. Nor did I have a grasp on the economy. I did my calculations and I needed 6 gold or something like that for my spells. Thinking to make a quick extra buck and offered them in trade chat for 5 gold each. If I've gotten as many Tinder matches as I did whispers then I'd be a happy man. Sold the items, got my spells and got on. A few minutes later someone told me I could've gotten hundreds if not a thousand gold for them. Logged off, deleted my character and made a new one out of shame.

Ofcourse I've forgotten to send the 4 whole gold I had back to my new character.

On my very first character I created a human. I grouped up with someone on one of the first quests to kill kobolds in northshire. After the quest I could not figure out how to leave the group and assumed I was stuck in this group with this guy forever. So I deleted my character and made a new one.

As a new player in classic wow I was helping other players kill a mob because i knew how difficult it was and when I was lv 23 or something I saw this hunter and i thought he was doing a quest or struggling fighting a spider in red ridge mountain so I did what I usually do and joined in kill it, turns out he was taming a rare spider lmao I was just a paladin I didn't know what hunter did to tame or any other classes do but I can assure you he was very mad.

In TBC I leveled to 70 and had never done a dungeon (prior to lfg). I did ramparts and was asked to soul stone the tank and I tried to trade it to them. I didn't know you could cast it on them. Not that bad but the group made be feel awful for not knowing as a 70.

Probably not rolling on gear. Someone in my guild rolled on an item once, not paying attention to what it was, and they said "You can't even use that armor type! Plus it's strength." This was probably the first time I realized classes had different armor types and about stats. I had no idea what my fresh hunter could use so I never rolled on gear. Only got gear if no one else rolled and someone was like, 'Hey, isn't this an upgrade for you?"

BrandnewLeischa ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:21:31 on October 3, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Same here. I was too scared to make a mistake and roll for something that didn't have the right stats for me so I just passed. Or I would try and compare it with my current equipment to see if it was an upgrade and it took me forever to figure it out so I just passed.

I accidentally kicked someone from a group. For some reason I was the leader, and I typed /kick at someone, thinking it would be an emote saying "[me] kicks [other player]'s behind" or something, but instead it kicked them from the group!

Another time I had a hard time healing Stratholme, and when I came out I discovered why: I had been wearing my fishing pole instead of my staff. Druids had to be in tree form to heal back then, and you couldn't see your weapon in that form.

PlatonicTroglodyte ยท 18 points ยท Posted at 13:06:53 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

The boars around Valley of Trials (orc/troll starting area) were neutral, but you had quests that required killing them. Then, later on, the boars just before and around Razor Hill were hostile, despite looking very similar.

I took this combination of facts to mean that if you killed enough of a neutral enemy, it would permanently turn them hostile toward you, so I really went out of my way to make sure I never accidentally AoEโ€™d them or anything. And I thought this for a long time. Idea was reinforced by some of the rep stuff like Gelkis/Magram centaurs later on.

TehJohnny ยท 8 points ยท Posted at 14:20:44 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

That's what I thought! I was always hesitant to use it at all because of the long CD and "never know when I might REALLY need it!". WoW was my first MMORPG so I was coming from a place like single player Final Fantasy games where you were afraid to use your super rare consumables like Elixirs, so you ended the game never using any of them and I had a hard time getting out of that mindset. I'll always remember the first time I used it was healing an Uldamon around level 38, the Trogg packs right before you turn into the hallway to fight Grimlok.

TehJohnny ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 23:00:53 on October 3, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

The Temple of Anh'Qiraj, was the second.to last raid of the original WoW before expansions, it was the prison of C'thun the Old God and the hive to the Qiraji, which were a part of the Aqir race, that were born from the Old Gods, there was also The Ruins of Anh'Qiraj side-raid, which was their surface home before the War of the Sands where they were defeated and sealed away.

Temple of Anh'Qiraj, 40 players = AQ40

Ruins of Anh'Qiraj, 20 players = AQ20

I don't remember my noob days, but I do remember learning in mop that BL meant bloodlust and that bloodlust=heroism.

I was shaman on alliance and I remember getting in a arguments over how I do not have damn bloodlust, and telling everyone to shut the fk up cause clearly they do not even know what spells shaman has, and I know everything cause I have thousands of hrs on it.

People would usually just ask me then to just use heroism INSTEAD, but no one ever thought of telling me that bloodlust=heroism and how what faction you are is makes the difference, I guess people just assumed I was acting stupid for laughs, no one considered the possibility of me actually being that stupid.

EDIT: I just remembered the super noob story of my 1st character. It was night elf hunter, I deleted hearthstone on it to open up more space in bag for items worth few bronze so I can "farm up" some silver, later I managed to get lost in the big a*s forest and just came to conclusion that there is nothing more I can do cause I do not have hearthstone so I just deleted that hunter.

A bit over 15 years ago, my cousin started on EU releae and I started like 2-3 months later.

I made an orc male shaman, my cousin who was a lvl 42 undead mage gave me 5 gold to start off.

I reached lvl 11 without doing any class quests or learning any new abilities and got to orgrimmar where he had shown me how the auction house worked.

I bought a pair of lvl 16 grey MAIL shoulders for 2h and like a 2h axe for another 50s when my cousin came back from afking he asked me where all my spells were and why I had a pair of lvl 16 mail shoulders in my bag and like less than 3g left, he laughed at what I told him and I ended up making a warrior instead, sent the gold to the warrior but deleted the shaman and forgot to send the shoulders and axe over.

This and I needrolled on the staff from WC as a warrior which made the shaman or druid in the group very mad (I think in classic warriors go for that staff as its the best option for like 5 more lvls, but noone knew that back then).

I started playing when I was 19 somewhere around phase 2 of tbc. Having loved warcraft 3, and the entire Arthas storyline, I decided to roll a paladin. My graphics setting were super low, so when choosing a face for my human I picked what I thought was "battle scarred." I load in, listen to the preamble about Humans, and was absolutely hooked from the first auto swing in Northshire. From there I continued on alone for months. I was terrible, but didn't know or care. I died all the time, but remained steadfast. I often felt very weak, but I figured, "nah it's just part of the challenge." Some time later around level 32 around Goldshire I was talking to someone about how hard everything seemed to be, and they asked me if I had been putting points into retribution. "What's retribution?" I say, looking at my entirely holy spec'd paladin. He then tells me to look at the tabs at the bottom of the talents window, and I died inside. I was a holy paladin, geared mostly like a prot paladin, trying to swing a 2 hander like ret for 32 levels.

Months later, I'm in a guild, and I'm a half decent healer. Wrath was coming out soon, and some of the guildies and I were checking out our new pre patch abilities. Having never really looked closely at my character, one guildie asked, "what's wrong with your face?" "Huh?" I said in bewilderment. "It's the battle scarred face." "There is no battle scarred face." He replied. Confounded, I tried to look up the battle scarred face online, and to my horror I learned that this entire time, my glorious, war hero paladin adventurer had the oldest old man face available. My graphics were so low and blurry that the details looked like badass facial scarring. Needless to say, I was very excited when Blizzard eventually let us change character features!

Bonus: I was genuinely angry at a mage in a dungeon for not healing because I thought all casters could heal...

Edit: my phone keyboard wants me to look like an idiot

Was 13 or so when I played. Commented on the cool sword that the boss in Ragefire had to the LVL 60 that pulled me through and voiced my disdain that I couldn't get it.

Farmed the dungeon near ratchet for a whole and had the same guy in almost every group. So I whought we were buddies or something and I greeted him outside of runs. He just asked me what I wanted when I just wanted to say hello.

A friend of my cousins (whom the account belonged to) had a Tauren character named Throl. Edgy me made a new character one day called Darkthrol. What made it worse is that the name was a play on his actual real life name. I even messaged him "hey guess who I am" shit was awkward.

I found a cloth bandana on my mage in Scarlet Monastery with str and agi. I then meleed every mob and used only instant casts for the next few levels and played as a battlemage like the trash in SM. I only stopped when I invested all my money into a str enchant on a str sword for my mage and the enchanter asked what the helll I was doing.

I took the small amount of gold I had and bought plus arcane damage gear. I thought that if arcane blast did 50 damage normally and I got plus 50 arcane damage gear, I would do double the damage and level super fast.

I was super disappointed when it didn't work and I now had no gold.

This happened to me just last week and I've played since TBC.

Raiding - we get to Painsmith and I sat down on the platform to eat (food buff) before we start the fight. The first time I had stayed on the ramp as it vanished with the pull (insta death) so I was keen not to make that mistake again. So I'm eating and the spikes come up, my Moonkin form was suspended on the end of the spike skewered like that for a few seconds (minimal damage). Copped plenty of ribbing about chicken kabobs and all the tasty marinade flavours.

My first MMORPG was Perfect World Inc. where there was no falling damage. When I started WOW and ran my first dungeons, I would get kicked for repeatedly falling off bridges, ledges etc or jumping into them thinking they were a short cut. I quickly learned the fact that falling could be fatal in WOW, but it took my muscle memory ages to incorporate it.

On my first character, I picked Skinning and Leatherworking. Then I proceeded to turn Scraps into Light Leather and sell that to vendors in Crossroads, because for some reason I thought that's how you are supposed to make money.

As a young Night Elf rogue, I did what many new Night Elves did and... fell off the tree. I hit a branch on the way down and died. Hike back to my body, try to land on the branch again, missed. There was no "return to graveyard" button then (BC), so I swam aaaaaaaall the way around, ran aaaaaaall the way back to my body, jumped... Missed again. While I was swimming the second time, I noticed the fatigue pop-up when I was in deeper water. So, I sat there to see what would happen. Cool, I "died" again and was back at the graveyard! I clicked on the big angel lady (having no idea what would happen). And that's when I also learned about res sickness. (And promptly got my ass beat by a nearby cat.)

As a level 70 back in BfA. Meaning I could solo it with ease. I still had the quest to do that dungeon from back when I did the westfall questlines and just kept it because I didn't know how to queue for dungeons.

When I was a new player back in Vanilla, I didnโ€™t realise you could sell junk to a vendor. So I would delete it all to make more room in my bag. It wasnโ€™t until level 13 or so that I realised my mistake.

First time I ever joined a dungeon I was under the impression that DPS was someone who did low dmg very fast, so me playing a mage just spamming fireball I told them I was a magewarrior cause in my mind that would equate to a mage that was there to do damage...

I did not know what "aoe" really meant.

I was, like, 10 or 11 when I started playing LoL, and am not a native English speaker. It had something to do with multiple targets, but in my mind, the e meant enemy. I don't recall, exactly, what I reasoned the phrase was, but I think something like "all on enemies"? It had no significant bearing on the game, so that was that.

In any case, once I started playing WoW, a year later, the term "aoe heals" confused the fuck out of me. I think it took about half a year till someone got the gist of my confusion and explained it.

When I first got the game, on the first character I considered 'serious,' I was obsessed with getting Stinging Viper from WC. I'd try to make groups with it on reserve. I think probably 14 at the very oldest. I never got it and also I was a Shaman so it barely mattered. I have a vivid memory of turning down a group because they wouldn't reserve it for me and later the guy whispered me that it dropped and the dude that got it rolled really low, and we argued for awhile and then he ended the convo by saying he was going to Olive Garden and signed off.

I was in a random BG when I got a compliment about my healing. I replied something along the lines of "I just wish all the health bars would stay still and in front of me." The guy asked me where my "raid frames" were.

I was healing for probably about 6 months when I started in the middle of Cata without knowing about party or raid frames. Just using name plates. And usually being the top healer in the BG (for whatever that's worth). I'm sure loads of people died without getting a heal because they were standing a few feet behind me lol

I was asked to help heal Karazhan (TBC). Was somewhat new to max level, Holy Paladin. I don't remember the reason, but I could only see my party's health bars, not the other party - I'm tempted to say Blizzard raid frames were not implemented yet, though maybe I just didn't know how to enable them (definitely did not have a raid frames addon). I ended up turning on friendly nameplates and having to click on people to heal them. Didn't go well.

Fast forward over a decade later, recently I accidentally toggled my UI off in the middle of a fight. I had set it to something pretty random, guess it wasn't random enough. So in the middle of a fight I have a completely UI-less screen. Thankfully it was a farm boss and we were a little heavy on healers - but yes, my numbers were terrible.

It's just funny, first was definitely a noob mistake, second was less noobish but way worse, lol. Raiding with zero UI is terrible. I changed it to a CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+W, will never mis-key that.

I wasn't super well off as a kid, and asking my mom to pay for the game AND a sub was out of the question. I played a lot on a private server (v1.32) where half the things were broken or didn't work (i.e. stamina was pretty much the only stat that did anything).

Finally I met another kid who wanted to share his account, so we started playing a rogue. I was excited as all hell and around level 40 we found a group to do Sunken Temple. One of the first bosses dropped a rare ring with agility on it.

Due to either being used to the itemization not being all that important, or the sheer mindlessness with which I was proceeding, I rolled need on it, only to notice that it also had defense on it. The tank went off on me on voice comm for rolling on a tank ring (this was way before loot could be traded between players), eventually he put up with it but kept moaning about it throughout the rest of the dungeon.

Lo and behold, we defeat Eranikus and he drops Dragon's Call (that <1% drop chance epic 1h sword that has a chance to summon a whelpling to fight for you). Not to incur any more wrath from the tank, I pass on it. Partially because it was kind of a marginal upgrade too.

The tank lost his shit, full on calling me the worst human being imaginable- rolling on tank items but passing on DPS weapons.

So, yeah, after that I played solo until 60.

Cue the first female nightelf who showed any signs of affection, or to be specific, she gifted me a couple of greens while questing together in Westfall. Needless to say i was madly in love with this obvious female player. Eventually i had to confess her my love.

Yeah he wasn't into that stuff.

Maybe not embarrassing but super frustrating. I started playing with a few friends and by the time I hit 70 they weren't playing anymore so I joined a guild and asked questions. I wanted to raid so I asked what to do. They said Heroic dungeons but looked at my greens and said just do PVP for the purples and we will get you into raiding when your geared.

Okay, sure. For an entire month I lived and breathed pvp with the occasional dungeon. Got into a Kara group in full pvp purples. We killed the curator but I died super early not knowing what raiding even was. They took a closer look at me and kicked me from the group. I asked why and they all said b/c you need dungeon gear to do raids. I explained what I was told and was kicked from the guild.

About a month later Wrath dropped and I was outside Naxx trying to figure out wtf it was on my new max level pally. A dude saw me just sitting there and asked why I was there and not in a guild.

I'm still in that guild today and have made dozens of life long friends b/c some rando guild leader saw a Newby trying to figure out why I couldn't enter Naxx lol.

When I started playing around the end of BC, I didn't understand that RP was limited to a handful of servers, and just assumed every interaction with every other player was supposed to be in character. I was also extremely shy as a teenager, and the thought of having to roleplay as a character I hadn't put much thought into made me break out in a cold sweat, so I avoided talking to anyone for as long as I could.

The first time I grouped with another player (a warrior in Westfall), we got to chatting and I did my best to sound the way I thought a generic human priest should. Everything was going great, and I was starting to think I could get into this whole RP thing with enough practice. This wasn't so hard, after all!

Then the warrior asked me where I was from.

Shit. I didn't know any Warcraft lore. I didn't even know how starting zones worked. I thought maybe there were multiple starting zones for each race, and you could unlock more as you progressed through the game. I mean, the map was so big! Surely there had to be more than one origin story for every member of a playable race, right?

"Northshire Abbey," I typed hesitantly.

"No, I meant in real life," the warrior replied.

I silently closed the game. I think I waited like three days before logging back in again.

In Zul'Aman (cata version), there is this mob that is running away to call its friends when attacked. As a Frost DK, I was asked by the tank to "taunt it". Pretty sure that it would be better to grip it, I asked "Taunt ? Are you sure of that". When the tank answered with a yes, I used Dark Command. Obviously, the mob immediatly flew, called some friends, we died, the tank yelled at me for not using Death Grip and the other players left the group.

I was not exactly a new player, but that was when I understand how you need to explicitly voice your concerns when you are asked to do something.

Then the hunter figures out what's actually going on, calls me out and I politely left to the group to go off myself.

I don't have anything too juicy because I was already an adult by the time the game came out and I wasn't able to get into it until a few years in, but I joined during Cataclysm and with my initial Shaman character I was just grabbing any Intellect gear I could, not making sure it was all mail for that sweet, sweet bonus.

My second character, a Tauren Paladin, ended up in a friendly guild who helped me with gearing and explaining a few things, and I also grabbed a guide for Cata (hey, I'm old school, I like my print guides, especially since I can browse them sometimes for nostalgia). Finally got back to playing my Shaman, brought him into that guild, but had to gear him up properly. Thankfully, Cata had a nice gearing system, so I was able to get him geared up for raiding pretty quickly.

When I finally got my own account (used to play with a friend when at his house), I was running around Orgrimmar and wanted to go to Undercity. Found a high-level player and asked where the zeppelin flew from. Now, English is my second language, and I was quite young at this point, so my linguistic skills were barely enough to hold a conversation, let alone understand abbreviations. I knew a couple, so I said "ty" when we arrived, and she typed "np". I had only ever heard the word "noob" pronounced, so I quickly assumed "np" had to mean she was calling me a "noop" because I had no idea where I was going and had to ask for help. Looking back, she was very patient when I started arguing "No! No np!!"

Not embarrassing to me but was quite the story, back in vanilla so I was pretty young.

Watched this ghost wolf just go around killing players and npc. Had no clue at the time it could be a player. Dude never left his wolf form. So my friend and I went after thenwolf only to get one shot as well, night elf starting area mind you. By the end we probably had 10 noobs chasing/running from this wolf. We would fall back to the little inn where guards would come out to help us.

But eventually he started to kill em. Looking back I thought there were two of em...but quite sure the orc was the wolf and never noticed him shape-shifting.

By the end some max level mage came by. Either killed or scared off the orc. I thought the orc was some cheater/hacker for being able to kill players/npc and the whole shaman thing. Thought this mage was some GM who came and dealt with the cheater. He made it hail ice on a dead npc and thought it was some special revive ability lol.

So my friend and I went running off "we gotta get stronger!" Mentality after watching high level fighting. What a wonderful naive world I lived in

back in vanilla, somehow i got to a high enough level to do Zulโ€™Farrak without realising that stats mattered (i had worked out that green or blue gear was better tho), and either Sangโ€™thraze or Jangโ€™thraze dropped for me, but i was a warlock and they were no use to me - BUT i had no idea about that and just thought it looked really cool - so when a melee class in the group asked for the weapon (they even had the other one that went with it) i refused to give it to them because i thought they were just trying to take away my fairly won sword

they were very mad but i stood my ground

I started in MoP and levelled a Pandaren Warrior to max without realising thatโ€™s specs and roles mattered so I would queue for dungeons as a DPS in tank spec and have no idea why people were mad about me being a DPS.

In TBC I made it to about level 30 before discovering talent points existed.

I also played a rogue. I was about 12 years old and genuinely afraid of dying in game and I got very irl nervous being in zones with mobs at or above my level. I stealthed everywhere, at 50% move speed, including the run from SW to booty bay.

I was new right at the start of BC and I'd made a Draenei Shaman and picked up mining and jewelcrafting. I understood enough about the game to know how those professions worked and to know how to make a guild, which I really wanted to do. I got enough signatures for a charter, made the guild, and then set about trying to get us a tabard.

I was maybe level 12, and spent my time mining copper in the kobold mine next to goldshire, as I'd realized that if I mined the copper, smelted it, and made it into a copper ring with JC, it would sell to a vendor for like 10s, which was a lot of money in my mind at the time. Soon the whole guild (all 10-15 of us brand new players) was sending me their copper so I could spam making copper rings to sell to vendors to build up enough gold to make a tabard for the guild.

By the time I had enough, I must've sold something like 300 copper bars worth of rings to a vendor. Months later I learned about the auction house and how it worked, and realized that a stack of 20 copper bars sold for 1-2g.

Needless to say I still think back to the sheer amount of wasted vendored copper rings and cringe.

Back in 2006 when I had made my first character I didn't realize wands were ranged. I would run up to mobs as my little gnome mage and proceed to wand them in melee range. Was a nice surprised when I realized I didn't have to be so close lol.

In beta I got a green bow drop from a random mirebeast outside Darnassus. When live launched I spent a good hour farming them, not realizing uncommons were just random and not tied to a specific mob.

There are a few drops that are tied to a very limited selection of mobs, but the hunting bow was not one of them.

When I first played beta in 2004 I thought WTS meant "what the shit" so when someone would say " WTS Light Leather " I'd be all like "pfff so? I find that stuff all the time, it's not rare"

Also the first time we did deadmines we had no clue about the mmo triangle so we went in without a tank. It took us hours and we only managed to beat VC because our druid kited him around the cabin while we killed the adds.

I was not a new player or anything, playing the game since years but there was a time I was trying to socket a spirit gem into my item as Priest. But I was failing to do so. I had other sockets on me working fine but this blue gem I was failing to socket!

I opened a ticket and asked GM that I can't socket gems. He tried a few gems himself and said its working fine and asked me to disable my addons and try again, which I did. I also restored the game, deleting WTF folders etc. No luck.

Then it hit me after a few days. The gem was not cut. My friends still mock me about this today.

First character was a blood elf (duh).

After finishing the ghostlands quests I didn't realize you have to click on an orb to get teleported to Undercity, so what my dumbass did was try and run through the plaguelands.

I thought the game was just hard at that point, and dried to find different solutions, so I started training my professions and threw dynamite at the undead.

Let's just say it took a lot of corpse runs to make it though..

Back in 2005 I was just starting to play WoW after some shitty free to play grindfest like MU Online, so I never have seen questing gameplay only grind one. So I started to play as a Night Elf druid and leveled to level 18 or 20 mostly grinding mobs and changing locations. Eventually I stumbled upon a class skill teaching in Darnassus and he gave me a quest for the fucking swimming form and that was like the first quest in took in the game. I found 1 item in the water near auberdine or whatever this village is called and tried to find a second item, eventually stumbled on thottbot or whatever the website was called and saw it was near the silverpine forrest in the other continent. So I went on the ship, traveled to stormwind and well... spend 2 fucking days going to silverpine forest dying to high level mobs all the time and respawning in the fucking corners of the map. After I have done this quest and got that shitty swim form I was devastated how bad it was and useless, so I decided to roll an undead mage, which I level to level 40 in 3 months in fire spec only to learn that I cannot kill shit in felwood at all. Luckely I saw another mage which was in frost just chilling and killing tons of mobs in a go so I spend most of my gold on respeccing and god, frost was a cake walk.

First character ever, game was still classic pre naxx.

Bobwick the hunter!

Bobwick was a sturdy dorf, ran up and blasted every foe with his common rifle. However, as he grew in level that rifle started to suck more and more.

Went to Ironforge, went to every vendor looking for a new rifle. But these were either TOO expensive, or very high in level.

Bobwick did have a green axe however, a 2 hander! And man did it hit hard, harder than that common rifle.

From that point onward (to level 21) Bobwick beat the shit out of every foe using Auto-attack and what ever melee hunter skills they had at the time.

I re-rolled a warrior later.

For quests where you have to "activate" a ride I actually didn't realize you had to do that twice. I actually flew through to enemy territory to try to activate the quest.

Sooo, I decided not to equip any BoE item cause I didn't want to be stuck with low level items, and was just stuffed with white/grey items.

Some of my friends who already played for a while and who wanted to help me pex faster found out once I was level 25 or so. They were like wtf, and bought me a bunch of stuff from the auction house and restuffed me.

More funny than embarrassing.

My first character was a Forsaken, and I was excited the first time I visited the Undercity. I was a big fan of Warcraft 3, so I was absorbing the scenery as I passed through the ruins of Lordaeron.

Then, as I was approaching an elevator, I just barely missed it. I was confused why the door slammed shut in my face, but took off towards a different one. I missed this elevator too, the door shutting right as I got near it.

I checked the map, saw a third elevator, and went for it. As I approached, a high level character rode past on their mount, boarded without issue, and again the elevator door closed by time I reached it.

So I concluded I was too low of a level for capital cities and did not return until I was around level 20 or so.

I didn't understand specs and didn't know about shadow priest so I ran around Ghostlands trying to kill mobs in disc spec and would have to ask my boyfriend to come and help me. Those two big monstrosities killed me a lot...

I also didn't know there was different armour types, so I saw a cool thing drop for my boyfriend and I asked if I could take it and he said "No it's mail" and I heard it as "male." I was like 'wtf there's gender specific armour?'

Both of these can probably be explained by the fact that WoW is my first mmorpg :P

One of the classics that I still do occasionally is accidentally spam someone with a whisper of my atrocious button slamming during a fight. Will wonder why nothing is casting, and then notice why on my chat bar. It's even more embarrassing when you go to erase it all and then accidentally send it.

Not as embarrassing as it could be, but on my first character, I was so excited about exploring the world that I was too impatient to wait until I had flying. I wanted to discover all of the zones, and the places therein, and if it had to be on foot, then so be it. I knew the world was large, but I severely underestimated it. I think I explored 4 or 5 zones around Elwynn before I realized how long it would take lol.

Picture this.

I'm killing Furbolgs in Felwood as a lvl 45 druid, trying to get items for the reputation turn in of Timbermaw. It's taking ages to kill stuff, one mob takes me a solid minute with lots of healing in between. I shift from elf to cat to bear, nothing's really working out good.

A lvl 60 druid walks by, stops and just watches me going at it. He's getting REALLY puzzled at what the heck is going on. He inspects me and notices two things. One, my gear is an absolute mess, it's a mix of cloth and leather armor, most are lvl 30 since I "enjoyed the look more". Then he checks my talent setup. My talent tree of Balance has all my talent points in it, but I fight in Cat Form. In my absolute noobiness of MMOs, RPGs, PC games, I never noticed other TABS in the Talent Tree window. But I really liked Cat form so I fought as a cat 95% of the time. :')

So yep, up until lvl 45 where I met my druid friend, I leveled putting all my talent points in Balance while fighting as Feral, and I only kept armor I liked the look of, over the stats it gave. :D

Iโ€™ll go. May 1st character was an Orc warrior. I lovingly named him WhompNoggin ( I thought it was clever). In any event I came to do my first dungeon. Mind youโ€ฆ i made the warrior just because I thought he was all powerful melee and not for the โ€œtankโ€ role. But hey first dungeon, letโ€™s do this. I know i was the worst tank everโ€ฆ. At some point we wiped and i had to run back to my bodyโ€ฆ. AND i got lost! So embarrassing. I didnโ€™t know which way to go and all I remember at some point was someone in chat asked โ€œWhereโ€™s Whomp?โ€.

I used to train weapon skill to max after every time I leveledโ€ฆ.. As a priestโ€ฆ. Not with a wand, but with my staff.

I thought I was being really clever, since โ€œwhat would happen if I ran out of mana mid fight? The. I would be useless.โ€ I also had no idea that wands existed in the game. It was a real game changer when I found one.

Grinded mobs instead of finding new quest junctions in Vanilla before I realized zones had multiple questions hubs. As a holy priest because respeccing was expensive. To me. I could barely keep up with the cost of water/food and repair bills.

I leveled unarmed on my priest just in case and all I have to show for it is a feat of strength achievement.

In my first ever raid, which happened to be Zul'Gurub, in 2009, the Swift Zulian Tiger mount dropped. Having no idea what it was and with other people going crazy in the chat, I passed. My guildmate immediately asked why on earth I'd done that and I said I didn't need it.

After finally getting it 2 weeks ago from the bmah for a cool 10 million and farming all these years for the gold, it certainly feels embarrassing now.

My first Paladin was the biggest note of misunderstanding back in early WotLK. I was new to the game, and had played it mostly on my own before some friends found out and we all got together. We were to run a few dungeons, and decided on Wailing caverns, where I would be the healer.

I show up with a mix of Agillity leather, strength gear and a grey 2H sword and specced in Protection. After many a hearty laughs and jests, I slowly learned why the game felt so incredibly hard for me, lol.

Did the headless horseman dungeon for the very first time, on my first toon, and the mount dropped. I just thought โ€œoh neatโ€, and never mentioned it. Next day I was playing with my husband (whoโ€™d been playing wow for years), and I mount up, and he freaks out. I just go, โ€œwhat, is that rare or something?โ€. He wasnโ€™t impressed.

I didn't really get into the game until TBC, and rolled a Draenei hunter. One of the first pets they have you tame is one of the cats from that area. I didn't know you needed to feed them food, and it would always make the schwoom noise of entering stealth after combat. So I saw it would fade out, and the unhappy face on his portrait, so I thought the noise meant that he was sad. I was distraught trying to figure out how to make him happy.

To this day, I associate the schwoom enter stealth noise with that stupid unhappy face lol.

Wow Vanilla was my first mmo and I came from Diablo 2. I was 12 and when I arrived in wow, I didnโ€™t pick up any quest, ran away from the spawn point to explore the world and got killed by wolves non stop. I raged quit because the wolves were hitting me from 3 - 5 meters away because of bad internet and complained that the game was garbage to all my friends. I didnโ€™t touch the game until WOTLK and played until 9.0.

I would always stop attacking enemies and click my own character before using any healing spells. I didn't want to accidentally heal enemies after all. Took a misclick to realise that's not how it works.

Edit: I was also playing disc priest without realising it was a healer spec and not dps. I also constantly inturrepted my own casts by running away from the mobs, because I didn't want to get hit. Yea, I struggled a lot.

So I played WoW in Wrath at a friendโ€™s house, but I never played it as much until Cata when I had my own laptop. Thatโ€™s the first time I hit level cap

So a guildie was out in Storm Peaks and saw the TLPD. She already had it so she mentioned in guild chat sheโ€™s happy to get one of us the mount. Our GM and I took her up on the offer and she mass summoned us. We killed it

I won the roll.

But I felt bad enough about outrolling my GM on the Twilight Drake in OS25 the previous night that I traded them the TLPD reins...not knowing the gap between how easy/hard to come by those two are

He quit in MoP and Iโ€™m still here without ever seeing it ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Christ, can I make a list?

Back in tBC, I was tanking on my Paladin. For some reason, I couldn't keep threat for shit. While back then, the Paladin had really cool taunt (Righteous Defense: you cast it on a target and it caused the mobs attacking that target to attack you instead), it still wasn't enough.

Back then, the Paladin had a spell called Righteous Fury which increased a Paladin threat and you kept that up to tank. So, it was up and still nothing working. Until I realized that I forgot to update the macro to put the highest rank spell on. Back then, spells had ranks and I was using a lower level rank to tank. :\

To this day (14 years later, mind you), I still have some guildmates that bring that up.

(This is in the days when hunters had a ranged weapon spot + melee weapon spot which made us piss off everyone else. Good times!)

I also tried to heal my very first time as a paladin wearing strength gear. When it was pointed out it wasnโ€™t healing gear I said โ€œwell, I have to level too!โ€. I was such a noob. I got kicked when I couldnโ€™t find my way back to the instance (one of the many Scarlet Monastery entrances)

My first character was a tailor and once I started needing wool cloth I did the only sensible thing I could think of. I ran around Loch Modan killing every sheep I could find. After doing this for hours and getting nothing I was pretty pissed so I was happy when my friend invited me to my first instance group ever.

Thats when I saw it. The answer to my problems. An ELITE sheep! I attacked every single sheep I saw in that dungeon hoping to get wool cloth. My friend finally lost his shit after a few wipes and asked why I was breaking poly. Poly? WTF is that? I'm killing sheep because I need wool, I told him.

I was also a mage.

Anyways, the first day i reached 10g i was super excited, and thats when a really cool paladin came to me and said that he could double my gold if I gave him all my gold and 5 minutes.

The guy juste said ยซย lmaoย ยป when i gave him all my gold and DCd. I didnt speak english very well back then and i just waited an hour in SW Inn hoping the guy would reappear, just as he dissapeared the first time.

I then cried about it to my dad who also was also playing around that time and he laughed his ass off at my retardness and gave me 10g with a valuable lesson; dont trust strangers online.

My dad was just super loaded because he didnt like the game per se. He had a level 1 naked gnome who spent all day trading on the AH and making money.

Back when I started in tbc I played a warrior. I thought the game was bugged since the mobs didnt take for example 100 dmg that my character sheet said I would do. I knew about armor existing but I mean even basic mobs have pretty high armor so I didnt connect the dots that the difference would be so big.

I mean how exactly would only my character be bugged in a mmorpg game? Thats probably the dumbest thing I thought back then.

I played as a hunter back in tbc (still main to this day), but I'm pretty sure that I might have been nooby that I could of pulled either alot of mobs without the tank, or needing loot cuz huntards.

An embarrassing moment to me was I got kicked out of the guild for being offline for too long and cried about it, not realizing I could get back in moments later.

Nowadays with being out of a guild makes you realize what you can do by looking at guilds with the best time for raiding and what not. Also rolling on a dead end realm doesn't help that much either.

The Lunar Festival was coming up and they were looking at a screenshot of the boss "Omen". At the time I didn't know much about the game, other than what they would tell me. I was asking them the usual questions about the boss and they told me that he spawns in Moonglade but warned me that if he kills your character that your character dies forever and is deleted.

I wholeheartedly believed this and made the resolution, "Well, I will just never go to Moonglade."

Playing a warrior in TBC, I hadn't really payed any real attention to the specs and what they were designed for, I just took whatever sounded cool from whatever tree, ended up mostly arms. Trying to run one of the hellfire dungeons but struggling to find a tank. I bought a shitty shield from a vendor, equipped it without changing my spec and declared I was now a tank, genuinely believing that was all it took. It became a recurring story in my guild after I became one of the officers to rip on me, but also to make newbies a little less embarrassed about asking what they thought were stupid questions, so it ended up being used for good at least.

My first dungeon i went in as a tank paladin. Before this is had never played an MMO and played games that taking on lots of enemies alone was no big deal. During questing i couldn't focus on multiple mobs and would easily die to two things. So my first dungeon as tank i was pulling mobs one and two at a time. I accidentally pulled like 6 things and when we got through the pull i started apologizing profusely. The healer was like "what? That's the fun part!" And that's when I clicked. Realizing the fun part is doing normal pulls and maybe even a little challenging pulls.

I remember going into Iron Forge and asking in General if anyone had any free stuff. Didn't know the concept of Soulbound at the time. Was used to D2 where you could pass gear around willy nilly. Plus D2 has Free Stuff games all the time.

Fortunately someone PMd me and gave me some spare bags and a green 1h notched sword of the X. Little did he know, I was an altaholic and likely was playing a new character a couple days later.

TheDorkMan ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:46:01 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I believed the terminology of loot system meant how hard I wanted something :

Need = I could use that (but doesn't matter if I don't get it).
Greed = I really want that (because it's essential for me).

So everyone was angry with me because I keep rolling need on things that were just for reselling etc and I kept losing my rolls for the things I actually need.

Thankfully it was just in Deadmines and finally understood midway through my second run.

I started playing when I was super young in Vanilla, and back then agility/strength were basically the same thing for most melee dps/hunters. So when Cata released and I went from a paladin to a DK, I thought agility was still a good stat for them (spoiler: it was not by that point) so I built full agility on him and did abyssmal with it, mainly because I was tanking :D Blood DK with agility.

As a new player joining a raid going from Westfall to attack grom gol (it was in the first weeks of vanilla). The bulk of the raid was formed of people like me around level 15-20, needless to say stranglethorn crocs proved too much of a challenge.

But the really embarrassing thing I did was as a returning player (I stopped after BWL), halfway during wotlk. I was leveling an undead mage and wanted to do SFK. Obviously as the former Vanilla player I started typing "Mage LFG SFK" and after an hour without any answer I figured the server was dead and paid a transfer. Only to realize shortly afterwards that the LFG tool was a thing.

My 1st time in Stormwind, I was level 10, asked a guard where the mage trainer was. After I trained I wanted to go back to goldshire to make my way to Hogger. I couldnโ€™t find the exit. I couldnโ€™t for the life of me remember where I came in from and was far to embarrassed to admit I was lost to ask for help. After about 20 mins of running around stormwind looking for anything that seemed familiar, I jumped in the canal to drown myself, knowing if I died, I could go to a GY and take res sickness.

I also made noob mistakes like:

  • Leveled as fire, and farmed raptors for eggs to vendor at 44s a stack instead of doing a frost aoe grind for so much more.

  • Took second wind from our healer in BRD Because I thought MP5 warranted a mage taking the trinket. After I explained, the group laughed about it, healer was still a bit salty.

  • In that same BRD group, I also looted the entire 7D chest. I thought everyone had their own items to loot from the chest, so thought the heal mace and leather helm were my itemsโ€ฆ so I took them. I tried to explain but this time after just taking the trinket, my group was not impressed and kicked me out.

I was playing a mage and had gotten into a Deadmines group. I'm watching the other caster in complete amazement, as they seem to be getting their spells out a lot faster than me, despite being the same level.

So right out in party chat, I ask, "How did you get the faster fireballs?!"

I had no idea that wands were even a thing and yes, it was just a fire wand... ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

I tanked dungeons as Fury Warrior while leveling up in Wrath. It was often hard, my party members were rarely happy, and I used Heroic Strike as my main attack ability with Bloodthirst not even on my toolbar. I was very bad.

And I definitely thought Greed > Need. Greed is a sin, of course greed is stronger than need!

I remember being a lvl 12ish human warlock or paladin back in vanilla walking into Stormwind and finding myself as asking these 60s where they got their mounts. I don't remember what they said, something about Eastvale Logging Camp? I had no idea what that was and didn't end up getting a mount until maybe BC when I was old enough to understand what I was doing wrong in this game.

my first char was a ud war named kittymaster. i was level 10 in tirisfal when i came across the zeppelins for the first time, i ran on the one going to org (had no idea at the time) and thought about how cool it was. it started to take off and i got scared because i didnt know where i was going or if i could come back, so i jumped off and landed on top of the brill inn and died. back then i thought your soul had to make it back to your body, like standing on top of your body to res. i walked around the inn as a spirit looking to see if there was any way to get to the roof, i went inside and went upstairs to look as well and i even saw the message to res but i thought it wouldnt do anything since i wasnt on top of my body.

so i deleted the char.

Me, being the total noob I was, queued as tank for a dungeon, with no clue as to what was expected of me. All I knew was that "warriors are tanks", "OK!" I thought, "I'm a warrior! A FURY WARRIOR!"

No one in the dungeon said anything until after we wiped the first time, then I got lit up and left.

During Wrath I remember I was playing DK, my 2nd character after my original Mage and I'd somehow gotten to raiding ICC as a newbie with him and my incredibly overpowered guild.

I can only assume that they thought I knew what I was doing and was working on changing it, since nobody said nothing. Due to real life stuff I had to stop for a few months, when I came back I wanted to try a new class and levelled a Druid, figuring out the game details much better this time round on a different server with some friends.

I logged my DK at one point as I was curious of the Cata changes to him, only to my horror to find I had a single piece of plate on him, and a mess of everything else in mostly Mail (Intel!) and Leather, with a few Cloth bits. I realized my "this seems useful/cool" greedrolls apparently had worked very much against me for the duration of my DK's playtime xD

A lot has changed since, my game knowledge and time in general, but I'm now that one guy who can and will spend multiple hours helping you figure out the game if you show to have no idea what you're doing as a newbie :P

With my first character, back in Vanilla, while doing Wailing Caverns, we found a chest. I had no idea you were supposed to roll for the contents so I just... got everything (it was only potions, but still). The group started asking why the hell I had done that and I panicked and said I didn't know what I was supposed to do. Fortunately they were understanding!

Also, even earlier than this occurence, I was doing my very first dungeon, Ragefire Chasm. My bags were full so I dragged the items in the bars around the screen being completely sure it meant I was cleaning my bags.

go, 11 years old me...

Monrar ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 16:54:23 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

When I started in tbc I didn't notice the tabs at the bottom of skill tree window, so I thought every class has one skill tree and your role in combat depends on the talents you chose.

I was a druid tank at the time and the tooltip of the moonkin form said "While in this form the armor contribution from items is increased by 400%, attack power is increased by 150% of your level and all party members within 30 yards have their spell critical chance increased by 5%". So naturally I thought this is a new tank form: I get more armor, more ap and buff my casters, perfect!

But I didn't get that far, about lvl 30 I was tanking a dungeon (I think it was Razorfen Kraul) and the healer commented "this would be easier to heal if you'd be in tank spec" and I didn't know that meant, I chose every balance talent which sounds tanky to me so I answered "Just wait until I have my Moonkin form!". Literally everyone in group chat laughed and they explained to me that there are 3 talent trees and Balance is for range dps, not tanking

I started playing WoW last August on a WOTLK private server. I picked up a lot of WoW lingo during my time there.

Started playing retail last November and wasnโ€™t active in a guild until March of this year. They used a lot of terms that I wasnโ€™t familiar with, but picked up a lot as I went.

My GM would say he was popping โ€œmetaโ€ every couple minutes. Now, I thought this referenced a classes meta damage/tank/header ability (think League of Legends usage of meta). I thought this was just retail slang instead of saying the name of your ability in the heat of the moment.

One day in a dungeon, me, a Frost Mage, says โ€œIโ€™m popping metaโ€ whenever I use Icy Veins. GM says he doesnโ€™t like how Iโ€™m trying to be a Demon Hunter. Me, wildly embarrassed, tried to explain my stupid train of thought lol.

This is still one of those things that I remember when I'm just about to fall asleep and keeps me awake.

I started playing during vanilla. My best friend got me into the game, and he was a really active player who had a guild full of people he was friends with. I didn't get to play that much because I was in college, but he played constantly. So I was a member of his guild, but outside of a few MC runs I didn't play with them much.

My friend had gone away for the weekend, but I was doing quests when I got a whisper from the guild leader asking if I wanted to do a raid (I BELIEVE it was Ahn'Qiraj, I can't remember though). I said sure.

Raid was going fine, and we managed to down this one boss we'd been struggling with for a while. Everyone was really excited. Now remember, back in the day you didn't have all the tools we have now, like rolling for items. So the raid leaders were talking amongst themselves to see which player was owed which gear.

I took a look at the boss' loot and I saw a quest item I knew I needed. I assumed, "oh, it's a quest item, I need to grab it". Like, I assumed everyone who needed that quest item could grab it at that point.

Nope, it was a singular item, so when I grabbed it, no one else could have it. People FREAKED. One guy was screaming over vent saying I needed to be kicked out of the guild. Other people were saying they'd waited for months for that item. I just felt SO bad.

Thankfully the guild leader was super nice and more understanding of my stupidity than the other players. He and I talked and I said obviously if there was a way to hand over the item to someone else, I absolutely would. So we messaged a GM, they basically said we were SOL and we couldn't give the item to someone else.

My "punishment" was I had to spend the next two Saturdays farming whatever item Warlocks used to create healthstones back in the day (it was a long time ago and I'm old, I can't remember).

My best friend still talks about it to this day. I still feel bad even though I'm sure no one else involved remembers it lol.

I didn't know how to use the player trade UI properly, so I told a fellow player on my realm to just keep the Elixir of Dexterity (or something like that), and I exited Undercity.

This was during ye olden days of classic, by the way. Think the other person was too bemused to respond for awhile afterwards.

I started playing during MoP as a Pandaren hunter. (This was in WoD times) When I reached level 60 in Un'Goro Crater, I was confused by the sudden lack of breadcrumb quests. My dad told me I needed to go to Outland to continue levelling. Thinking that the Dark Portal was the only way to reach Outland, I ran all the way back to Theramore and took the boat to the Eastern Kingdoms, and got massively sidetracked by all the low level quests there. I thought it was fun, but it took me forever to reach the Blasted Lands. Many years later, I learned that there was a mage portal to Hellfire Peninsula in Sillithus the whole time, meaning my retail-style wetlands run was entirely unnecessary.

I made it as far as Zul'farrak as a melee hunter in vanilla WoW. I even saved up money to get the Scorpion Sting and Phantom Blade to dual-wield, because I thought that was just so cool. Someone told me in that dungeon that I actually do more damage just being ranged, and I retorted that I always melee'd. Needless to say, I started actually using my bow around level 47.

I also played a retribution paladin. At level 56, I was lucky enough to find the Skullflame Shield from a Lieutenant drop in Alterac Valley. I looted and equipped it immediately with a healer mace. As a retribution paladin. I stayed that way until Burning Crusade's release.

Started playing on private servers since I had no money for a subscription.

Nothing was scripted properly. I tried going from Eastern Kingdoms to Kalimdor by swimming all the way. Fatigue didn't kill me and I reached a point where the game glitched and I couldn't move. I couldn't be teleported or summoned either. The GM had to change my coordinates to get me unblocked.

My first raid I didn't know any mechanics so I started DPSing before the tank a couple of times. The group finally told me to stop using my spells so I started hitting the boys with my staff.

I thought that you had to finish every quest before moving to another zone so I did them and didn't level as quickly as my friends.

Once joined a dungeon as a healer, but I was a Shadow Priest. I thought that priests can heal regardless.

Because I guess nothing says quest mob like being pretty much everywhere in the expansion. Oh I also killed shitload of deer in moonglade because I thought it would be easy levelling

When I first started playing as a Warrior in BC on the Azuremyst realm I tanked through a lot of dungeons without a shield it wasnโ€™t until I was around level 40 someone said I should full spec prot and use a shield for me to consider myself a โ€œtank.โ€ I think most of the people I ran dungeons with didnโ€™t know themselves either or Iโ€™m not entirely sure why it took that long coining myself as a tank to be told Iโ€™m not really a tank.

In BC I saw my first blue drop. I was a hunter and the item was a shield and I got so excited I instantly needed on it. Ended up winning it and immediately kicked from the group. Still feel about it to this day

I once told a druid tank in deadmines that he was wearing the wrong gear since it was leather heirlooms. I thought all tanks wore plate.

In my defence, I was like 10 years old

My friends I've just met asked me for a BL/TW. I had to find it in my spellbook. Then I went into dungeon as a frost mage with zero idea of rotation. I was sure that my playstyle was amazing. After last boss, someone told me to look at my rotation and I just attacked them for no reason xD

I wanted a range attack as a pally in vanilla, and I saw the trainer for them was in darnassus. So I walked to menethil, get off the boat, and proceed to try to swim to darnassus. After eventually making it, I learned that day that paladins cannot use bows.

I started a lock mid tbc. I new warriors got plate at 40,hunter and shamans got mail etc. My friend told me locks got leather at 40 so I started needed all the leather in zf because I would need it at 40...

I also used to think the father away I was the more likely I would be to miss spells. So I would run into melee before casting shadow bolt...

Way back in vanilla I was too young to even have my own account, but everytime I went to my grandmaโ€™s (she was a hardcore raider) she let me play on her account. I had a low level warrior that I somehow got to darkshore. After this I now realize I was constantly killing gray mobs and selling greens I got to buy vendor gear with more armor.

Back in the day during Vanilla times, me and my friends leveled to about lvl 10. At that point all of our gear were broken and we couldn't figure how to fix our gear....so we just decided to create new characters and start a new.

The same time my friend tried to have a serious conversation with an NPC, asking it directions.

We also dissed our friend for now leveling his melee abilities....he was a mage.

Shit, how am I supposed to remember the dumbest things from 15 years ago :( I only remember "competitive" dumb things like rolling on "wrong" items (aka. it's better for someone else but it'd also be upg to me).

I do remember the weirdest thing. In 9.0 my vdh alt joined something like +16 PF. Someone linked my trinket and asked wtf is this? It was haste trinket with +int proc in it. I had no idea how I had it, I play a lot of alts and I don't remember all my gear. I couldn't figure out how I had got it. In the end I can only imagine I asked if I could have it from someone earlier in the season, and they gave it to me thinking I needed it for ilvl. Well, I did, but I didn't read it through.

Got kicked from that group lol. It's just funny in a sense to be having sort of +int gear as dh when doing as high content as +16 keys. Not saying that's super high, just that it's understandable people are extremely wtf'd by how you have ended up in that situation. I had def used it for months.

I started as druid and skilled all trees so I would reach all different druid forms because I thought "awesome, so I can do EVERYTHING at once!" lmao. Also I only wore things with agility and strength because I thought intelligence was unnecessary, only being fast and strong mattered. Yeah that didn't work out thaaaat well though.

To be fair that was my first RPG ever I think back then.

As someone spending most of my time on an anime platform back then, my chat only consisted of cringy smileys like รถ.รถ 3^ ~w~ yeah you know, the terrible 90s emo weeb kids stuff. Thinking about this physically hurts tbh. Shoutout to all the players that didn't just kick me for this

Cascadiya ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 20:31:59 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Also back then female players were really rare on my server so basically every time I joined a team speak server dudes started growling "YOU'RE A GIRL". Made me super uncomfortable sometimes, I was only 15/16 back then and adult, grown men tried to gain my attention. So weird honestly lol. I still think about all the creepyness I encountered but brushed it off because I thought they didn't mean it... Oh sweet summer child haha

As a mage, I thought that you needed to use counterspell AFTER a spell was cast to lock that school of magic. Needless to say I didn't have much success and I ended up simply giving up using the spell, thinking it was broken. Realised I was stupid the day I timely hit counterspell midcast by accident against an ogre mage in Arathi Highlands...

Way back in the BC era, my first run of deadmines, I rolled "need" on everything (that may be an exaggeration) because "greed is bad, I don't want to be greedy." Wound up with a pile of junk, and I'm surprised they let me stay through the whole thing.

I wasn't new at the time, which makes this even more embarrassing.

I got the Agility Quel-Thalas sword on my Death Knight since the "Damage per second" was listed at like .2 higher than the Strength version.

That's right, I threw away the chance to get one of the best weapons at the time by prioritizing a completely irrelavant "stat" (if it can even be called that) over my class's primary status.

madi0r ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:43:55 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Never did anythign too embarassing from being a total noob (at least nothing I can remember), but what happened several times in my life in dungeons and once during raid was falling asleep right before pull while waiting for countdown.

Moral of the story is do not go raiding after u didn't sleep for like 26 hours.

depressed_jewel ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:50:52 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I only joined WoW about a year and a half ago so I'm still a bit of a noob but not as noob-y as I was for the first three months I played. Highlights include, but are not limited to:

-not realizing I would outlevel some zones at certain levels and that I was supposed to move on to different zones (so I was killing mobs/questing in kalimdor somewhere and was confused as to why I was barely leveling)

-wearing crappy low level gear because it looked better, and because I didn't understand the concept of transmogging stuff

-trying to solo dungeons (Zul Farrak was a pain in the ass but somehow I didn't die?)

-hoarding every piece of gear I ever received because my noob brain apparently thought I'd need rings from BC/WOTLK zones someday

-queueing as tank, healer, and dps despite only being geared for dps and not knowing how to do anything else

-asking for help with low level quests (redridge/westfall) in guild chat instead of local chat

-hoarding all the boe gear because it was all the same main stat but had different secondaries, and I had no idea how any of that stuff worked or what it meant

I thought anything involving trolling was about the race aswell. I thought armor was the most important stat. I tried to ask a group to let me tank on my rogue since I was the highest level in dungeon finder group. I thought aggrro was comletely based on who hit the mob first so I asked them to let me go first. I would need because greed sounded like a bad thing.

I remember when I was a noob I used to walk everywhere because I was too poor to afford a taxi. So my friend gave me some gold so I could use the taxi.

Also I remember doing a heroic in WotLK and getting a purple 1h. So I threw out my old green 2h and used only 1 one hander. My guild gave me 72 hour notice to get another 1h or be kicked from the guild.

iHighjinx ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:59:37 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

This was not me but my friends younger brother in original WoW around 2005. He had a rogue and was with a guild he was pretty young at the time I think like around 12 years old. His guild got both Del'Rends to drop at the same time. The guild had it in need or greed. They were telling everyone to pass but he didn't have his earbuds in listening. So he thought "Oh I need those." So he rolled need and got both of them. They were upset at him but realized it was accidental. No hard feelings in the end.

He then wanted to swap to be a dagger rogue instead. Once he got two blue daggers he sold both of the swords to afford a fiery enchant on both of his new daggers.

I had been playing for a couple of years. Wrath of the lich king came out, leveled to 70 and all that, got in a dungeon group, got there, started the dungeon. The tank was using a 2H instead of 1H and shield. I was the healer. I started to complain and asking the tank why wouldn't he change to tank gear. DKs were a new thing.

I've experienced second-hand shame, and the worst was in a guild where the GM had a "girlfriend" who was actually a dude roleplaying a girl.

Jesus Christ, it was so bad when that blew up... I felt ashamed for our GM, but also for the dude duping him, and for being a part of it playing with them and downing bosses with them.

As for something I've done... Um, not sure if it's embarrassing, but when I was new I figured that white armor, WHITE, as in armor COLORED white, meant belonging to the "good guys". So, I wore anything white. Leather, cloth, whatever the quality and stats.

I went like that for quiiiiite some time until a friendly veteran gave me some advice.

I used to take whatever was pretty to me without understanding the stats, I didn't know what they meant for awhile, and only used the "appearance" as to take or not something. I remember playing feral with no agility whatsoever and fully running on intelligence. But hey, did I look nice, at least I thought.

I used to think high level content was unachievable for common folk like me and you needed to be somewhat special and dedicated to be geared, so I always watched high level geared people in awe. I used to never get past my gearing phase and never did a raid. Been playing since Vanilla, been mainly a bear tank running simply dungeons. Started doing mythic + and my very first raid only by BFA. Yes, I liked my comfort zone.

Also, Rp in Goldshire. God...

I have a good one, but I might be too late to the party. I got into my first Molten Core group, right around the time Burning Crusade was releasing. I was maybe 13 years old. It was a giant pug and we were all on Ventrillo (a voice chat software). The raid lead or someone of the sort said, โ€œwait for sundersโ€, which basically meant before we dps the adds down we need to wait for the warriors in the group to all use sunder armor.

I had no idea what that meant, and I was trying to fit in or be cool, and since I didnโ€™t know what it meant I heard โ€œwait for thunderโ€, which somehow I got to โ€œwait for lightning.โ€ So here I was saying โ€œwait for lightning, wait for lightningโ€ making no sense at all over the voice chat to thirty or so other people.

In Vanilla when my Nelf warrior's armor broke just outside the starting zone I just deleted him and made a new char that didn't wear "heavy" armor. When it happened again (on a priest I think) I just made a Human thinking that the race was the problem. Hoo boy.

I started playing WoW in vanilla at 9 years old. I didn't know what the word, "duel" meant. I got challenged and accepted thinking it was a group thing and started killing undead. Fun fact: My first death was in the starting zone seconds later.

Hadn't played since legion, was out in kyrian zone. Asked why the alliance tags were grey and if it was a warmode thing. Got abused for being a noob for a solid 40 minutes.

Not me, but my friend:

Way back in BC, his mom (then an avid wow player) got access to the beta. Said friend was allowed to use it too by sharing her computer, and somehow he managed to (on her character) get into a raid group for Zul'Aman.

Being curious about the new content, he decided to go and get a closer look at the boss's model for more detail. This, naturally, face-pulled the boss before the group was ready, and it was very quickly a wipe.

I levelled as a shadow priest first time round. I remember being in a dungeon and thanking the healer every time they healed me, lol.

Also in my first ever raid, I was told to keep a mob silenced or feared, canโ€™t really remember what, so I did absolutely no dps and just sat and watched until I had to silence/fear it again lol

I didnt know what a hearthstone was, got lost in deep run tram, unstucked out.

Didnt know how to teach my pet growl, was a melee surv hunter til about 20 in red ridge. Boy vanilla was fun.

Was like 11 years old, made a night elf warrior got him to level 12 (big achievement for me back then) which was the highest character I had only to spin him around and realise he had a moustache and 11 yr old me REALLY didnโ€™t want a character with a mustache so deleted him. To be fair donโ€™t think barbers were a thing in vanilla.

Came from runescape, so classes were a new thing to me. I was level 30 something in a razorfen dungeon wielding a staff and wearing robes as a warrior with like 13 unspent talent points before someone said anything or helped me out. I started at the end of BC.

Back in BC when I first started playing, it was the first time I had been online for a server reset. I panicked when I saw "server shutdown 15 mins" and asked trade chat shat it meant. Someone said it meant the server was being deleted with all the characters. I was upset, I had worked so hard to get level 20 or 30 something at that point.

This has very little to do with any gameplay, but when I was 11 or something I was in my first guild. Two members were in a relationship and I asked, trying to be.. funny? โ€˜โ€™Is she good to kissโ€™โ€™. Whole guild got mildly upset. Nothing bad really, they knew I was young and basically just all told me not to ask that. So the story isnโ€™t really that special but I still remember that, it really stressed me tf out

I had gotten my first alt to max and was doing a dungeon. Someone asked me to interrupt the add and i informed them that "hunters don't have an interrupt". Lmaoo

Iโ€™m new to WoW in the grand scheme of things. Started playing a hunter three years ago, my fiancรฉ gave me a crash course on the basics.

A couple of real big derps.

I didnโ€™t realise you needed to be with a vendor to vendor your grays for gold and was just deleting them. He thought that was hilarious.

Was wondering why my spells werenโ€™t working - either my pet was dead or I had swapped my ranged weapon for a hand held weapon, happened all the time.

My stupid thing was done today.. I didn't think I was still a new player, but apparently I am.

I was running a random heroic dungeon as a healer, and the tank left mid run. We requeued, but there were no tanks around so I just switched to guardian and continued on with the dungeon. I'd pulled about 20 mobs when a new tank joined the group, and the game automatically switched me back to my restoration spec without warning. The new tank wasn't actually there, I was in my resto spec (with guardian gear), 20 mobs were pulled, and I had no mana.

Lesson learned.

As a kid and new player I barely spoke English. I played a hunter and would just mash all buttons all the time. Other players would berate me all the time but I didn't understand why. Also I didn't do quests for a long time. I thought quests were too complicated. I still remember killing spiders in Redridge for hours on end.

Phelloy ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:58:51 on October 3, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

I remember as a kid who didnt know any english constantly asking for my parents to tell me what I had to do for quests. Other than that I remember jumping off of Teldrassil and dying ofc. Aimlessly wandering around the ocean in wisp form while crying and trying to get to my body. That morning only grandma was home, so for couple hours until my dad came home I was in tears, going around that tree thinking how I will never see my character alive again. My dad had a good laugh, and I now that I think about it.

First day of Vanilla I somehow managed to toggle the walk/run key and didn't know. I WALKED EVERYWHERE till level 30ish when I joined my first guild and they asked me why I was walking everywhere in a dungeon run. After toggling run back on finally I was so pissed off at myself.

Be me, a level 30 warrior lurking on forums just started out not knowing what is what. Didnโ€™t have gold to buy anything including learning to ride mounts. Whispered a guildmaster whether i could join his guild and if he had any tips to make gold. He sent me 1k and i was so appreciative i sent him back 2k as thanks in about 3 weeks after i did all side quests and farmed herbs to vendor (yes vendor - didnโ€™t know about auction house then). GM told me he spent more on repairs in raid that night that the 1k he sent.

Another time i joined a mythic key and there was a quaking affix. Didnโ€™t know what it was (cue newbie player) and stacked on the tank wiping the group. Safe to say neither the tank nor the group was very happy about that.

When i started wow first i was playing warlock and i took engineering as i thiught it would be cool. Iater realised i can build a gun and wanted to do that so i can use it. I build it couldnt use it then i searched for the gun trainer and marched all the way to thunderbluff just to realise warlocks cant use that

When I first started raiding in eternal palace I saw that someone has mythic 15 gear from mythic plus.

I thought I meant that they cleared mythic raids 15 times to get that and I wanted to become a good enough player to do that.

Well now I do 18s while they are stuck at 12s so I guess I am the better player now.

HOLY FUCK THIS GOT DOWNVOTED: guess I should not try and vent about being better than my old GM after trying to sabotage my future guild prospects.

Given the fact I had no idea that mythic dungeons even existed cuz it was not in the que finder and the only other game I played before wow was starcraft. (Witch at the time only brang you to the starcraft wiki for lore)

Yeah I never clicked on my character portrait to see dungeon diff etheir I was not very bright. ( continues to this day it seams)

throwawaythhw ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 23:22:42 on October 2, 2021 ยท (Permalink)

Only bring you to the Wiki? The amount of strats, vods, Music videos etc that came out of sc2 was immense. Half the game was on the internet

This Isnt exactly noob moment since i had been playing with my dad for years beforehand, But in early wrath i started playing solo. So i made a DK and qued for dungeons, somehow group finder gave us 5 DKโ€™s. And me Being Young didnt realise DK meant death knight, i only knew DK as an abbreviation for Denmark. When the group commented On 5 dks i thought they were and spent 15min trying to write Danish to them
