Always. If the SEC was actually good at their job you'd see a lot less market volatility. If I were them I'd start by investigating the firms actively trading an equity while selling options. I've seen big traders buy hard to avoid paying out far too often.
If you look at the open interest on options you can usually figure out whether or not they'll allow an equity to go down past a certain point. If there's a ton of open put interest at a specific spot you can place a pretty good bet that the equity will NOT go down past that point, so that they expire worthless and don't have to pay out.

Always. If the SEC was actually good at their job you'd see a lot less market volatility. If I were them I'd start by investigating the firms actively trading an equity while selling options. I've seen big traders buy hard to avoid paying out far too often.
If you look at the open interest on options you can usually figure out whether or not they'll allow an equity to go down past a certain point. If there's a ton of open put interest at a specific spot you can place a pretty good bet that the equity will NOT go down past that point, so that they expire worthless and don't have to pay out.

Fuck you, it's a derivative that's valued based on a share. Its a right not an obligation to sell a share at an exucution price before a set date. As the day approaches if it has set the share at a higher price it gains in value, the opposite at last datedrops it's value to 0
