We like to make sure people don't have to go digging around in comment sections for links to the original, the best quality version, or similar. Stickied comments are the natural way to facilitate this.

I like having a sticky comment for a mirror, but you could as well link the actual video in your comment as well. As it is, your sticky comment is useless.
If I click your link, it goes into a permalink and I need to go back to full comments afterwards, or I need to open it in tabs. I rather just scroll past your sticky to find the mirror itself so I don't need to go into permalinks.

Also, it's two extra clicks. One to go into the comment and one to go back to full comments. Including the two minor loading times, which becomes noticeable on really low end hardware. In mobile phones it can be even more of a hassle.

That's not true at all. We catch a huge amount of reuploaded (here used as a euphemism for 'stolen') content every day. It's a massive part of what gets removed.
It's also an ongoing discussion (my stickied post in /r/videos_discussion for example) both with users and internally. There's no silver-bullet for catching it, and so our current stance is to get rid of as much as we can at the time of submission in order to discourage people from posting it, but not to penalise casual visitors by removing content that makes it to the front-page. That would mean lots of front-page removals, which are a hassle for all concerned.
If credit was such an important thing to you, there would be a rule to prohibit content stealing videos and those kind of posts would be deleted.
And we do, as I say, routinely remove reuploaded content as spam, and have done for years. If something slips through (as, given the volume of submissions alongside the fact that there's no perfect way to detect reuploads, it inevitably will) and makes it to the front-page, then we flair it and point people to the comment which contains the original in the hopes that they'll go there instead of giving the spammer the revenue.

Driver may have needed permission but it would have been crazy for them to say no. This skit is right in the tradition of Anthony Perkins' "Norman Bates School of Motel Management" skit in SNL's first season in 1975. You don't need permission for parody, only for the actor to do it because of his contract. If Driver wasn't able to do it they would have done the same skit with him playing another character in it anyways.

You better believe that if they hire people to write stories that take place after Episode IX and then when they make X,XI, XIII in 6-10 years later,they will throw out everything that took place in books after IX.
They didn't want to tip-toe around the EU to avoid contradictions. If they didn't do that, then 7, 8, and 9 would just be re-telling EU stories in movie form.
Vader was the last Sith. Snoke and his Knights are not sith in any matter. THey do not follow the rule of 2. They are their own religion, their own ideals.
True, I just hoped that snoke And Ren follow parallel of Luke journey. Luke is searching for first jedi temple and I'm hoping snoke is searching for or has uncovered the info on sith to really turn Ren into a sith if they exist in this Disney universe.
From the Greek meaning 'rule' or 'measure', it has come to mean in this context that body of work against which we determine whether something is real in a fictional context. Something is canonical if it comes from the officially designated body of work but would ot be if it came from, say, a work of fanfiction set in the same universe.

This was really funny without taking away from Kylo Ren's character at all which I really appreciate. They could have easily went with the whole "emo angsty teen" routine but I felt like I got humor as well as some insight to the actual character, because Adam Driver does such an amazing job in it. It doesn't feel like he just did it as a throwaway parody of the role, but was actually playing the character.
Personal favorite is that monotone delivery of "Wow man. Sorry about that. Must be hard." while staring unblinking at the officer.

It's actually consistent with his character. No empathy, only deals with the big picture, clear self esteem issues.
Neat! That adds considerable depth to the character.
I felt like the struggle to suppress those feelings was not emphasized enough. I suppose more emphasis may have been a bit over the top though.
The subtlety was well done.
I think that given the obvious parallels between this and Episode 4, Kylo is going to play a similar role to Vader (although his internal conflict is a lot more obvious, Vader didn't really show his doubts until Episode 6)

I thought the parody was just as much making fun of the sincerity of the "Undercover Boss" show. It's a one hour infomercial about whatever this week's boss is trying to sell.
I don't know how often you've seen the show, but I often see episodes that portray both the boss and the business in terrible manners.

I've seen only a few episodes. They had the same formula:
Look at big boss and his millions or billions. Put him in with the low wage workers. Look at the way boss is humbled by seeing how difficult their jobs and lives are. Boss "connects" with a low paid worker and "generously" give him or her a few thousand dollars. A group of employs tearfully applaud. Roll credits.
They always coincidentally find the hard working employee that despite an extremely rough life are able to go above and beyond work.
There was a thread once with someone who was on the show. The producers come in and interview everyone before hand to select which ever location has the best workers for the undercover boss.
The only one I've seen that seemed legit, as in it scared the boss, was the hooters one.
on the cinnabon episode, they gave this one exceptional manager who was trying to save money to open a franchise, a free franchise. naturally it benefited them to have such a good owner, but still the costs to open were between 200k and 300k, which they gifted the guy. and i mean.... fucking cinnabon. do they really need publicity or to give us any more incentives to go there and consume delicious cinnamon rolls covered in hot cum?
editing as i remember: there was a video pretty high in /r/videos recently i believe of an owner of.. i want to say modells.. meeting a girl who was a great employee, only to find out she had been homeless with a kid or three for a long time. at the end of the episode that motherfucker broke down in extremely sincere tears and gave her money for a house, and a promotion, and a financial adviser to help her with the money. he was basically like 'i dont want you to even spend tonight in the shelter, get out now we are making this happen because i can't stand the thought of it'
that was pretty funny. you nailed it. you and I are pretty cynical and I would want to be friends with you but I know our collective cynicism would kill it.
I would be like 'I wanna invite over muci19 but you know how that will go' then I would second guess your arrival and mine and end it with 'it will probably rain' the trick here is that it did rain because I fucking knew it would since I watched the news and decided to go against my own better judgement- because I like to torture myself.

I actually like the character in the same way I liked Commodus as portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix. They are both flawed and unlikable characters and Driver and Phoenix make me feel that. Darth Vader was a total bad ass and fairly predictable. Kylo is scary because he is like the kid you worry about bringing a gun to school, only the kid can shoot like a trained SPEC OPS soldier.

I got the impression that the character grows on you. His flaws, the instability and irritability, are both irritating and scarily normal (for some people). I guess I'll need to rewatch the movie a couple of times, for researching purposes. Of course we can only conclude our evaluation once we've watched all the movies.

It's the small things. Voice inflections, portraying the conflicted emotions, flashes of great power yet utter failure. I actually loved the dichotomy of power and fear the mask and sabre gave versus the youth and inexperience Driver projected when he took off the mask. I've heard so many people say they wanted him to be badder or tougher. Making that character is easy and less memorable or, in Star Wars, downright cliche. This is my second favorite SW movie behind ESB and Kylo is a very compelling character. I was fully prepared to be underwhelmed, but was instead very happy and can't wait for the next film.
My daughters were scared of Kylo, like I was of Vader as a kid. But they saw the original trilogy and are more scared of Kylo than Vader. My youngest asks me to pretend to be him and is totally freaked out if I pretend to punch my side like Driver did after getting shot by the bow caster while fighting Rey. The fact that I felt uneasy, or that I felt some emotional response, tells me Driver did a very good job and Abrams got the actors to give nuanced and complex performances.
In short, I think that you're right. Over time, I think people will recognize how good the performance is. Actually, most of the actors came off brilliantly. Just so I don't sound like a fanboy, Carrie Fisher was weak. Mark Hamill said more in 15 seconds with no dialogue than she did in the entire movie.

I'm kinda worried though...... I love the character too (and was unfamiliar with the actor beforehand) but now that there has been enough time for parodies to start cropping up, it might affect others and my own reaction when episode 8 comes along and Kylo pops up on screen.

Is that the one they used to air every Thanksgiving/Christmas when I was a kid? It's my understanding that those movies have been recut and tampered with more than Superman II. If I could just get the versions I saw when I was a kid before the Special Editions came out it'd be great.

Still not entirely sure after some digging, but this should help some. There are some comparisons of the cleanup between the original 35mm and the negative1 cleanup, and the negative1 cleanup and the Blu-Ray re-release. The Blu-Ray has the best quality since it was created from the original negative, but the cleaned up 35mm is still pretty good quality and retains the original parts of the movie.

For a New Hope? I've found a HD scan of Empire, with all the little scratches still in it (I don't mind it adds some authenticity, but I can't find the cleaned up version).
There's zero reason to hire him for anything. They just need to scan original film reels and not muck with the results besides dirt and scratch removal.
As much as I appreciate the value of the unaltered version, and as much as I dislike how off the rails he got with excessive remasters, the very first remaster he did with new effects I really appreciate. Seeing x wings slowly rise out of the trees to take off was a lot better than a bunch of abstract dots of light zipping off screen.
I really like the story of Star Wars, and seeing the characters on merch in every store takes me out of the story.
Kylo Ren did some bad, bad things, as did Darth Vader. Seeing them on candy and detergent packaging sort of weakens their potency as bad guys.

I surprisingly think of her naked more often than not, even in random occasions. I can't think of a more hot celebrity who has that many high quality nudes out there.
Not only that but it's Adam Driver appearing as Kylo Ren. If he didn't have to call the mothership to get a green-light then I'd be absolutely shocked. They're not gonna let the guy run around with their character doing whatever he wants with the image.

Because satire does cover use of images from original sources.
They're also doing it while the movie is still in theatres and a lawyer could argue it spoils the movie and could potentially affect marketability. The fair use clause may or may not apply depending upon the "effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work." That said I think this should have a positive affect on the box office, so I suspect this would be an irrelevant line of argument. Adam Driver is literally the fourth billed actor on the posters behind only Ford, Hamill and Fisher. It's not like they were keeping it much of a secret who he played.
It also talks about the first order, their goals, the Starkiller Base that wasn't mentioned or seen in the trailers (except for some fighting where it wasn't clear they were on the base), and is obviously a new death star from it's name and thus spoils (although admittedly people should have expected it) the antagonists scheme.

They would have been able to do it without Disney's permission, it just would have to have been fudged a lot, making it not as good. Like when Kit Harrington went on Seth Meyers show, they didn't have HBOs permission so they just dressed him up and had him act like John Snow, without ever actually saying the name "John snow".
Lucas Arts has a pretty open policy when it comes to parody. I think Disney is smart enough to know that the open policy has always been a strong point of the Star Wars franchise.
I wouldn't expect Robot Chicken or Family Guy full episodes though like before, but who knows.
With all those legit stormtrooper costumes in there, you really think SNL would be able to afford to have those made? Looks like Disney lent them out in the first place.
Don't mean to knock on you personally, but is this really what passes for funny on SNL now? His delivery (like the movies) was awful. I know people are saying "It's just like his character" but fuck it, he hammed that up too and you all know it.
I wounder how many contestant on the real undercover boss know or at least strongly suspects whats going on.
Not in the first seasons obviously, but as more and more seasons have been made more and more people have watched the program, so there has to be a good portion of people who knew what was going on and just played along.
On other note, that show would have been so much better had they skipped all the stupid sentimental stuff in each episode, its the main reason I was unable to keep watching it. It was so forced and formulaic, and I cringed everything they started playing that sad music in the background.
Generally in large companies employees doesn't know who their bosses are anyways. If it's a very prominant CEO they usually send one of the other managers.
I was more thinking of how a film-crew shows up at your workplace following a guy who is trying out the job for the first time while he is being taught by a person who happens to have a sad life-story to tell.
"Hi I'm doing some scouting for a show called... Uhh. 'fundercover foss'. Can you tell us about your daily life?"
"Well I wake up in my tent because I'm too poor to afford a house, thinking about how both parents died in a freak bear accident at the zoo while I watched as a child. Then I brush my teeth with groundwater a pray I don't get cholera. I go to work listening to tapes of my wife and daughter who both also died in an accident before my eyes. At work I barely make it through the day on coffee because the sound of my crying child haunts my dreams. I then go back to my tent to cry myself to sleep, waiting for the nightmares.
Is that a sad enough backstory for the CEO guy to give me a couple grand?"

I would slightly alter how you were orphaned. Maybe instead of both parents being killed by a bear you could say your dad was killed in fighting in Iraq, so to make you feel better your mom brought you to the zoo where she was killed by a bear.
The part that gets me are the ones who even if they somehow don't realize it's undercover boss, will screw up royally on a TV SHOW. I mean, even if it's not undercover boss, perhaps you might realize that when anyone is filming your job you might just want to give it your best while the cameras are rolling.

They start the episode with some dumb cover story that they're on a new show and competing for some job.
On the other hand, I think probably 99% of common people have a sad life story of some sort. Between parents, siblings, children, etc there's usually someone who's got a tough time that we support or want to support. Clearly most employee's aren't wealthy so financial challenges are easy to find and discuss.
Overall it's an easy formula but you get to see some real bosses in awkward and/or uncomfortable spots and most of them really seem to get a new perspective as well, even if they thought they had one before. You can see which ones are better actors than others.

Ya but what kind of idiot is going to fall for the old, "we're filming a reality show to hire a new employee" routine??? Who would run a reality show to name a new cashier at Pizza Hutt? I think people not just know but the show clearly uses actors to play employees at times.
Well, my impression is that Americans are getting used to reality tv being about anything. So if a camera crew comes in you're not necessarily going to know it's undercover boss. I've only seen parts of the first few seasons, and I imagine it might be trickier to fool people now.
Not to mention that every episode I've seen has that one asshole who is unabashedly a huge dick for no good reason, or someone who blatantly breaks the rules, or someone who just doesn't do anything. It's obviously staged and I don't know why people watch it
I watched one episode and found it compelling. I watched a second one and noticed it was exactly like the first. I watched one more, but that was it.
I cannot understand why anyone would continue watching that crap. And in a larger sense, if they can tell the exact same story over and over and over again with entirely different sets of people, it should make viewers question all of reality tv.
I don't care that it is formulaic. Lots of good shows are. I don't like that undercover boss is an insincere publicity stunt.
If the episode ended with new policies or a shifting culture that would be great. Or if the ceo learned about fundamental problems with his employees lives and made efforts to improve them.
But no. Instead a handful of employees he or she happened to work with directly get their sob stories rewarded with a prize and the mean and bad employees get fired or a talking to. Nothing systemic changes. At least not in the ones I've seen.
It's nice to have on in the background. You don't have to pay attention, just pop in to see the boss fuck up, realize it's harder than expected, zone out and pop back in for the handouts. It's background noise, really.
I actually have qualification for this, my job was in the season premiere of this season, I would've been a part of it but had a concert the day they filmed. They interview everyone and tell them it's a competitive reality show and that thet don't know what the show will be. Everybody kept saying to was Undercover Boss. My friend who they picked was always the one that was going to win, after the interviews it seems they pick the best sob stories and go for that, hers was school and car. She won money for school and a car. They film it out of order and actually use footage that had nothing to do what they were talking about but most of it is true, well whatever the employees are talking about. Mine was about management and how shitty it is. The employees always have a hunch that it is but never truely know til the end seeing is they base it as TWO employees are competing for the job, the CEO being one of them.
I know some people aren't going to believe me, but I'm pretty sure the show is real. At least in early seasons. They did an episode on Moe's, and one of the restaurants they chose was in my town Mount Pleasant, SC (across the bridge from Charleston). If you talk to the now promoted manager who works there, she'll tell you nothing was scripted and she even told me what the cameras were pitched as, but I can't remember. I think it was as some kind of training exercise.
From what I've read its primarily not scripted, tough they do try to force some kind of story out of it (for instance picking out people with a sad story to tell).
I seriously thought this too. I was thinking, "Oh, that's so cool, but why is he making a cameo. Tim Schafer worked with LucasArts so maybe that's the connection?"
They have a few decent skits every episode. The only people who say SNL hasn't been good in years are the ones who haven't watched it in years. They just miss their favourite cast.

Does having a few decent sketches an episode mean it's good overall though? I feel like at best that would make it decent. That doesn't mean talented people don't come out of it still or that it is to blame for not being as good anymore, just that it's had some legendary figures and it's hard to keep up quality for as long as it has.

I disagree. I've watched at least one full episode every year. It really hasn't been funny for me since Andy Samberg left. Maybe it's just that the Digital Shorts really set a high bar for me. (Not that all of those were great.) I just really don't like most of the new cast, mostly hollow impressions and boring stale jokes.
See I didn't like Sandberg in sketches, but I loved the Digital Shorts. Andy can only play himself. There were much better cast members during his time but to each their own.
Last nights episode was great all around. The America’s Funniest Cats skit was good as well and the Bowie tribute was fantastic. I'm not a big country music guy, but Chris Stapleton was good too.

I don't get the notion that Ren is anymore a whiner then Anakin was. Odd in the EU books the Sith were badass and not whiners what so ever. I guess since Plagueis created Anakin (non canon now, blah blah) from the Midi-chlorians there was a by product of being an emotional basket case passed down through the family line.

This skit exposes what a terrible actor Adam Driver is, what a dry and two dimensional character Kylo Ren is, and just what a bad idea The Force Awakens was. As time passes, the critics will change their tune and talk about how bad of a movie this was.

It's too early to tell if Kylo is mostly McGuffin or not. There's a fan theory floating around that he's actually a double agent and that he has chosen to embrace the dark side in order to become powerful enough to overcome Snook and destroy the first order. That's why there is such a huge struggle in him between the dark and the light and why he's such an emotional basket case. And the big bad thing he did in TFA was something he had to do to finally overcome the light side of himself.
I'm not convinced by this theory but it's interesting to think about. And I'm willing to reserve judgment on some of the seeming plot holes in TFA until I see the rest of the films. After all, Snape never really made any fucking sense until the last Harry Potter book.
But, to use your analogy, each Harry Potter book stood up on its own. I find this Star Wars to be absolutely inconsistent with the rest of the established canon. I don't think I'm going to stick around to find out; franchise fatigue.
His character development I thought was quite good in one simple scene. He's being torn apart between the light and the dark, because he's still inexperienced and he decides by murdering his father with no remorse, no mercy, staring blankly into his eyes. Motivation, his grandfather was once arguably one of the rulers of the Galaxy, he believes he deserves the right to that "throne" now
Edit: Plus you gotta remember this is 1 Star Wars film, think of how much character development Darth Vader had in episode 4 compared to this, it's roughly the same if not more for Kylo Ren

Drivative concept- The whole story is about the Skywalker family. Yes, the spin off stuff has other primary characters, but the Skywalker bloodline is the focus of the main series.
Character development? Motivation?- You answered the motivation part on the first part "Wants to be like this former Sith that failed". Its the first in a trilogy, we're not going to learn everything about the character and why he does what he does. Watching episode 4 alone, without the aid of the other movies, we don't know Vader's motivations, he's simply an enforcer. As far as character development, he is shown to be conflicted about being evil, killing his father pushes him into that.
He's a McGuffin- This is the most ridiculous thing I've read about this movie. His motivation is finding himself and what he truly want's to be, you know, the same thing Luke had going on in 4. He's also trying trying to find his uncle to, presumably, kill him. If you compare this to Vader in 4, Vaders only motivation were getting the death star plans. In 7 Kylos starting motivation is finding the map.
All of these negative things you say about Kylo can also be said about Vader or any other villain at the start of a trilogy. We'll get more of his character in the next few, maybe even his own "I'm your father" level incident.
Right. The "map". To x,y,z coordinates. Because you cannot arrive at a point in space without traveling through a route, despite space being three dimensions. /s
Forget that the empire uses probes to find the Hoth base, forget that Maul finds the jedi without probes or even any indication where they went, forget that Han and Chewie find a ship floating in space - we need a "map" to find luke, even though 95% of the galaxy is eliminated by the part of the map they do have.
Bad plot is bad. I would have to disagree with you about the characterization as well, I found nothing enticing or curious about him.

But that is a character, he's an angry teenager. It might not be a character you like, but he's still a character, he has character qualities. It's not a "so what is he" "well he's the bad guy". Look at the Character test Red Letter media did with episode one. Kylo doesn't fall into that area.
It just baffles me, this movie is so fucking bad. It's a movie for child but it still sucks, Frozen, Finding Nemo or Rapunzel are such better movies than this piece of crap.
I guess we all have to drink the Disney Ass-Cool-Aid... This 5/10 movie got a 93% RottenTomatoes score AND is now breaking the Avatar records (another shitty movie)...

I like having a sticky comment for a mirror, but you could as well link the actual video in your comment as well. As it is, your sticky comment is useless.
If I click your link, it goes into a permalink and I need to go back to full comments afterwards, or I need to open it in tabs. I rather just scroll past your sticky to find the mirror itself so I don't need to go into permalinks.
One could say going into permalink is such a minor hassle, why complain? Well, I'm assuming that the point of this sticky comment is to lessen the hassle of finding the proper link, so why not go all the way and make it as hassle-free as possible? I mean, that's fine.
For the above reason: some people care about karma or being thanked for putting effort into finding a link, and it's not up to us (in my view) to just take their link and pretend we found it ourselves denying them any recognition.
I'm not sure that the inconvenience afforded by one extra click outweighs the above, but if it does for you then that's fine. Not everyone, as you say, has to click.

Also, it's two extra clicks. One to go into the comment and one to go back to full comments. Including the two minor loading times, which becomes noticeable on really low end hardware. In mobile phones it can be even more of a hassle.
It's not like you guys even care that much about giving credit if we're real here. There's tons of posts here with a flair "original in comments". If credit was such an important thing to you, there would be a rule to prohibit content stealing videos and those kind of posts would be deleted.

We could do that, yep, that might be a decent compromise although I suspect it'll result in the majority of people bypassing the actual comment which supplies the alternative link.
That's not true at all. We catch a huge amount of reuploaded (here used as a euphemism for 'stolen') content every day. It's a massive part of what gets removed.
It's also an ongoing discussion (my stickied post in /r/videos_discussion for example) both with users and internally. There's no silver-bullet for catching it, and so our current stance is to get rid of as much as we can at the time of submission in order to discourage people from posting it, but not to penalise casual visitors by removing content that makes it to the front-page. That would mean lots of front-page removals, which are a hassle for all concerned.
And we do, as I say, routinely remove reuploaded content as spam, and have done for years. If something slips through (as, given the volume of submissions alongside the fact that there's no perfect way to detect reuploads, it inevitably will) and makes it to the front-page, then we flair it and point people to the comment which contains the original in the hopes that they'll go there instead of giving the spammer the revenue.

This skit is right in the tradition of Anthony Perkins' "Norman Bates School of Motel Management" skit in SNL's first season in 1975. They did do auditions for the new Star Wars a few episodes back. It had basis celebrity impressions, but also people from the new Star Wars cast.
So this has definitely been promotional from Disney. No problem with that though.

It was in old EU. In old expanded universe exiled dark jedi landed on korriban and subjugate the native sith race. Over time the 2 groups became one.
Now in current canon there is no basis for this.

From the Greek meaning 'rule' or 'measure', it has come to mean in this context that body of work against which we determine whether something is real in a fictional context. Something is canonical if it comes from the officially designated body of work but would ot be if it came from, say, a work of fanfiction set in the same universe.

This was really funny without taking away from Kylo Ren's character at all which I really appreciate. They could have easily went with the whole "emo angsty teen" routine but I felt like I got humor as well as some insight to the actual character, because Adam Driver does such an amazing job in it. It doesn't feel like he just did it as a throwaway parody of the role, but was actually playing the character.
Personal favorite is that monotone delivery of "Wow man. Sorry about that. Must be hard." while staring unblinking at the officer.

I think that given the obvious parallels between this and Episode 4, Kylo is going to play a similar role to Vader (although his internal conflict is a lot more obvious, Vader didn't really show his doubts until Episode 6)

I wouldn't even say "no empathy" more that he doesn't understand how to properly react to certain situations (evidenced by the card), maybe growing up as force sensitive and being a padawan means he never socialized properly.

I've seen only a few episodes. They had the same formula:
Look at big boss and his millions or billions. Put him in with the low wage workers. Look at the way boss is humbled by seeing how difficult their jobs and lives are. Boss "connects" with a low paid worker and "generously" give him or her a few thousand dollars. A group of employs tearfully applaud. Roll credits.

They always coincidentally find the hard working employee that despite an extremely rough life are able to go above and beyond work.
There was a thread once with someone who was on the show. The producers come in and interview everyone before hand to select which ever location has the best workers for the undercover boss.
The only one I've seen that seemed legit, as in it scared the boss, was the hooters one.

on the cinnabon episode, they gave this one exceptional manager who was trying to save money to open a franchise, a free franchise. naturally it benefited them to have such a good owner, but still the costs to open were between 200k and 300k, which they gifted the guy. and i mean.... fucking cinnabon. do they really need publicity or to give us any more incentives to go there and consume delicious cinnamon rolls covered in hot cum?
editing as i remember: there was a video pretty high in /r/videos recently i believe of an owner of.. i want to say modells.. meeting a girl who was a great employee, only to find out she had been homeless with a kid or three for a long time. at the end of the episode that motherfucker broke down in extremely sincere tears and gave her money for a house, and a promotion, and a financial adviser to help her with the money. he was basically like 'i dont want you to even spend tonight in the shelter, get out now we are making this happen because i can't stand the thought of it'

I actually like the character in the same way I liked Commodus as portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix. They are both flawed and unlikable characters and Driver and Phoenix make me feel that. Darth Vader was a total bad ass and fairly predictable. Kylo is scary because he is like the kid you worry about bringing a gun to school, only the kid can shoot like a trained SPEC OPS soldier.

I got the impression that the character grows on you. His flaws, the instability and irritability, are both irritating and scarily normal (for some people). It's the small things. Voice inflections, portraying the conflicted emotions, flashes of great power yet utter failure. I actually loved the dichotomy of power and fear the mask and sabre gave versus the youth and inexperience Driver projected when he took off the mask. I've heard so many people say they wanted him to be badder or tougher. Making that character is easy and less memorable or, in Star Wars, downright cliche. This is my second favorite SW movie behind ESB and Kylo is a very compelling character. I was fully prepared to be underwhelmed, but was instead very happy and can't wait for the next film.
My daughters were scared of Kylo, like I was of Vader as a kid. But they saw the original trilogy and are more scared of Kylo than Vader. My youngest asks me to pretend to be him and is totally freaked out if I pretend to punch my side like Driver did after getting shot by the bow caster while fighting Rey. The fact that I felt uneasy, or that I felt some emotional response, tells me Driver did a very good job and Abrams got the actors to give nuanced and complex performances.
In short, I think that you're right. Over time, I think people will recognize how good the performance is. Actually, most of the actors came off brilliantly. Just so I don't sound like a fanboy, Carrie Fisher was weak. Mark Hamill said more in 15 seconds with no dialogue than she did in the entire movie.

Still not entirely sure after some digging, but this should help some. There are some comparisons of the cleanup between the original 35mm and the negative1 cleanup, and the negative1 cleanup and the Blu-Ray re-release. The Blu-Ray has the best quality since it was created from the original negative, but the cleaned up 35mm is still pretty good quality and retains the original parts of the movie.

They're also doing it while the movie is still in theatres and a lawyer could argue it spoils the movie and could potentially affect marketability. The fair use clause may or may not apply depending upon the "effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work." That said I think this should have a positive affect on the box office, so I suspect this would be an irrelevant line of argument. That said NBC would probably not risk showing it and getting into an expensive court battle unless they had permission.

Lucas Arts has a pretty open policy when it comes to parody. I think Disney is smart enough to know that the open policy has always been a strong point of the Star Wars franchise.

I wounder how many contestant on the real undercover boss know or at least strongly suspects whats going on.
Not in the first seasons obviously, but as more and more seasons have been made more and more people have watched the program, so there has to be a good portion of people who knew what was going on and just played along.
On other note, that show would have been so much better had they skipped all the stupid sentimental stuff in each episode, its the main reason I was unable to keep watching it. It was so forced and formulaic, and I cringed everything they started playing that sad music in the background.

They start the episode with some dumb cover story that they're on a new show and competing for some job.
On the other hand, I think probably 99% of common people have a sad life story of some sort. Between parents, siblings, children, etc there's usually someone who's got a tough time that we support or want to support. Clearly most employee's aren't wealthy so financial challenges are easy to find and discuss.
Overall it's an easy formula but you get to see some real bosses in awkward and/or uncomfortable spots and most of them really seem to get a new perspective as well, even if they thought they had one before. You can see which ones are better actors than others.

Well, my impression is that Americans are getting used to reality tv being about anything. So if a camera crew comes in you're not necessarily going to know it's undercover boss. I've only seen parts of the first few seasons, and I imagine it might be trickier to fool people now.

I watched one episode and found it compelling. I watched a second one and noticed it was exactly like the first. I watched one more, but that was it.
I cannot understand why anyone would continue watching that crap. And in a larger sense, if they can tell the exact same story over and over and over again with entirely different sets of people, it should make viewers question all of reality tv.

If the episode ended with new policies or a shifting culture that would be great. Or if the ceo learned about fundamental problems with his employees lives and made efforts to improve them.
But no. Instead a handful of employees he or she happened to work with directly get their sob stories rewarded with a prize and the mean and bad employees get fired or a talking to. Nothing systemic changes. At least not in the ones I've seen.

I actually have qualification for this, my job was in the season premiere of this season, I would've been a part of it but had a concert the day they filmed. They interview everyone and tell them it's a competitive reality show and that thet don't know what the show will be. Everybody kept saying to was Undercover Boss. My friend who they picked was always the one that was going to win, after the interviews it seems they pick the best sob stories and go for that, hers was school and car. She won money for school and a car. They film it out of order and actually use footage that had nothing to do what they were talking about but most of it is true, well whatever the employees are talking about. Mine was about management and how shitty it is. I know some people aren't going to believe me, but I'm pretty sure the show is real. At least in early seasons. They did an episode on Moe's, and one of the restaurants they chose was in my town Mount Pleasant, SC (across the bridge from Charleston). If you talk to the now promoted manager who works there, she'll tell you nothing was scripted and she even told me what the cameras were pitched as, but I can't remember. I think it was as some kind of training exercise.

Does having a few decent sketches an episode mean it's good overall though? I feel like at best that would make it decent. That doesn't mean talented people don't come out of it still or that it is to blame for not being as good anymore, just that it's had some legendary figures and it's hard to keep up quality for as long as it has.

I disagree. I've watched at least one full episode every year. It really hasn't been funny for me since Andy Samberg left. Maybe it's just that the Digital Shorts really set a high bar for me. (Not that all of those were great.) I just really don't like most of the new cast, mostly hollow impressions and boring stale jokes.

It's too early to tell if Kylo is mostly McGuffin or not. There's a fan theory floating around that he's actually a double agent and that he has chosen to embrace the dark side in order to become powerful enough to overcome Snook and destroy the first order. That's why there is such a huge struggle in him between the dark and the light and why he's such an emotional basket case. And the big bad thing he did in TFA was something he had to do to finally overcome the light side of himself.
I'm not convinced by this theory but it's interesting to think about. And I'm willing to reserve judgment on some of the seeming plot holes in TFA until I see the rest of the films. After all, Snape never really made any fucking sense until the last Harry Potter book.

His character development I thought was quite good in one simple scene. He's being torn apart between the light and the dark, because he's still inexperienced and he decides by murdering his father with no remorse, no mercy, staring blankly into his eyes. Motivation, his grandfather was once arguably one of the rulers of the Galaxy, he believes he deserves the right to that "throne" now
Edit: Plus you gotta remember this is 1 Star Wars film, think of how much character development Darth Vader had in episode 4 compared to this, it's roughly the same if not more for Kylo Ren

Drivative concept- The whole story is about the Skywalker family. Yes, the spin off stuff has other primary characters, but the Skywalker bloodline is the focus of the main series.
Character development? Motivation?- You answered the motivation part on the first part "Wants to be like this former Sith that failed". Its the first in a trilogy, we're not going to learn everything about the character and why he does what he does. Watching episode 4 alone, without the aid of the other movies, we don't know Vader's motivations, he's simply an enforcer. As far as character development, he is shown to be conflicted about being evil, killing his father pushes him into that.
He's a McGuffin- This is the most ridiculous thing I've read about this movie. His motivation is finding himself and what he truly want's to be, you know, the same thing Luke had going on in 4. He's also trying trying to find his uncle to, presumably, kill him. If you compare this to Vader in 4, Vaders only motivation were getting the death star plans. In 7 Kylos starting motivation is finding the map.
All of these negative things you say about Kylo can also be said about Vader or any other villain at the start of a trilogy. We'll get more of his character in the next few, maybe even his own "I'm your father" level incident.

Forget that the empire uses probes to find the Hoth base, forget that Maul finds the jedi without probes or even any indication where they went, forget that Han and Chewie find a ship floating in space - we need a "map" to find luke, even though 95% of the galaxy is eliminated by the part of the map they do have.
Bad plot is bad. I would have to disagree with you about the characterization as well, I found nothing enticing or curious about him.

But that is a character, he's an angry teenager. It might not be a character you like, but he's still a character, he has character qualities. It's not a "so what is he" "well he's the bad guy". Look at the Character test Red Letter media did with episode one. Kylo doesn't fall into that area.

It just baffles me, this movie is so fucking bad. It's a movie for child but it still sucks, Frozen, Finding Nemo or Rapunzel are such better movies than this piece of crap.
I guess we all have to drink the Disney Ass-Cool-Aid... This 5/10 movie got a 93% RottenTomatoes score AND is now breaking the Avatar records (another shitty movie)...
