It's like when people say 'an historic moment', it's 'a historic moment', because historic starts with an H. However if you drop the sound of the H and say 'an 'istoric moment in time' it works, because now you're pronouncing the word without the sound of a consonant.
It used to be so easy to delete unnecessary bullshit on tumblr posts and now you have to like backtrack to some other reblog where the dumbass comment isn’t there yet to reblog it yourself. It’s a shame

I actually did this for a creative writing class I hated in high school. I wrote pages of the most ridiculous purple prose that was good enough for an A on its own, but I thought it was too contrived and pretentious so I put the whole thing in quotation marks and ended it with "that's a lovely story dear but please move out of the way of the television".
I got an A overall, I actually quite enjoy creative writing now. I think I was embarrassed at the time because writing stories wasn't particularly cool.

The prompt was supposed to be about people magically appearing.
The reply just had the brother come up to the attic (for unimportant reasons unknown to the reader), and react to the sound of glass breaking.
The prompt makes us expect a magical explanation, but it's a mundane one.

I actually did this for a creative writing class I hated in high school. I wrote pages of the most ridiculous purple prose that was good enough for an A on its own, but I thought it was too contrived and pretentious so I put the whole thing in quotation marks and ended it with "that's a lovely story dear but please move out of the way of the television".

No. The difference between 'a' and 'an' is whether or not the word ahead of it starts with a vowel. So, when you say 'orange' you preface it with 'an', and when you say 'table' you preface it with 'a'. There are exceptions like 'university' (because the pronounciation is 'juniversiti'), but mundane starts eith an 'm' and so does it's pronounciation.
