Learning is a painful process. When I was younger I wrote poems, and made grand gestures and shit that I learned were too much and overwhelming for a girl and just made me seem like a cringey dork. Then I started compensating by rushing and asking for a date when I hardly knew them which didnt work. Then I got depressed and stopped trying. Now I've found the golden land where I know to just have polite conversation, start off nice, and ramp thing up. Share a joint with a girl or grab a meal with her and work my way up without forcing things, and not even thinking about dating when I first talk to her. It's really something you dont just jump into, but you also dont make it a big deal at the beginning.
Ok so we're about the same age. Im getting downvoted so maybe it's just an age thing but to say "I hope he learned his lesson" to me just seems kinda harsh. It is definitely a learning process but this kids already leagues ahead of where I was at his age.

A simple hey do you wanna go to the prom would have given him, at worst, the same result but with less embarrassment for both parties. Then I sat down and was like thank you and then had to go and finish a math test. This was also all on the Friday before a week long break. So credit to you for at least a pretty quality pun.

Learning is a painful process. When I was younger I wrote poems, and made grand gestures and shit that I learned were too much and overwhelming for a girl and just made me seem like a cringey dork. Then I started compensating by rushing and asking for a date when I hardly knew them which didnt work. Then I got depressed and stopped trying. Now I've found the golden land where I know to just have polite conversation, start off nice, and ramp thing up. Share a joint with a girl or grab a meal with her and work my way up without forcing things, and not even thinking about dating when I first talk to her. It's really something you dont just jump into, but you also dont make it a big deal at the beginning.

I dunno man. Doing grand gestures like this put a lot of awkwardness onto the girl. A simple hey do you wanna go to the prom would have given him, at worst, the same result but with less embarrassment for both parties. Huge things like this work when you already know the girl is into you and the answer is likely gonna be yes. So yeah he had the courage to do it but not enough courage to just ask the normal way and he hoped a grand gesture would seal it.
I feel really bad for him and this is a great lesson. Hopefully Itโll be a funny story in a few years.

This is why you never do these things in public unless you two are already dating or had already spoken about it beforehand. When you put somebody on the spot like this they tend to panic because youโve now made them the center of attention which is some peopleโs worst nightmare and even if they would have said yes they might say no because theyโre embarrassed. The best thing you can do now is apologize to this girl for putting her on the spot like that. The way you did it wasn't the right way to go. People like us, that fk around the Internet have this unique sense of humor that no one else gets. Now the approach you took might've embarrassed the girl herself and made you look stupid, so her saying yes at that point would've fked her credit. Don't be the person you are on reddit in real life, 9/10 times it wouldn't work, the 1/10 chance would be with another redditor irl. Edit: never make a move publicly, so that you don't get rejected in front of everyone incase you do get rejected, and, approaching privately would make the other person feel your vibe rather than just think about how you will make them look if they accept you or not.

I came from a different post and Iโm 25 years old so maybe Iโm out of touch, but I will say that I disagree with most of these people. I mean, I donโt consider myself to be the pinnacle of attractiveness or coolness, but I was relatively popular in school and I would have definitely laughed and accepted your invitation. I think it shows a sense of insecurity on her part.
While it was a pretty corny promposal, I thought it was funny and cute in an ironic, tongue-in-cheek sort of way.
