Quite frankly plenty of flaws people see in themselves are real, and the ability to self-critique and thus improve is an important aspect of human life that stupid articles like this shouldnโt try to โcancelโ.
Oh wait... youโve cited a real-life example from Harry Potter?? I take it back.
Seriously, like it's good to have some self esteem, but saying that any and all flaws you see in yourself are nonexistent is probably one of the most harmful messages you could send to a person
Yea much of this sort of bull assumes that lack of self esteem is more of a plague on humanity than vanity and narcissistic arrogance. Not only is this nonsense, but the cringey attempts to remedy this result in a massive outlet for the latter.
โIโm a princess/awesome! I donโt need to change a thing, the world must accept me as I amโ (even if who they are is an arsehole who treats people like trash) โYea, preach!โ No.

Iโm glad someone mentioned how dangerous the subject of the article itself is instead of just focusing on the Harry Potter part
Yeah, I read the article too, and it was hot garbage. One of the main points he tried to make at the end was that the only truth about yourself is what YOU believe about yourself. I'm sure Hitler believed he was the savior of his nation and the mastermind behind a worthy cause, so I guess he must have been.
You can tell that the author thinks heโs getting at some profound universal truths, but outside of his own ego it reads more like a pseudo intellectualโs ramblings of various disconnected clichรฉs and platitudes after having just passed an intro to psychology course in his freshman year of university
I gotta tell you about this tremendous HARRY POTTER!!! You've never seen anything as tremendous or AMAZING as this! Much smarter than fake news CNN!!. It's amazing I tell you ๐
The concept is so widespread that I don't think you can actually pin down where it popped up first. Someone mentioned Greek mythology, I'm pretty sure it pops up in Dante's inferno (as a test you have to pass in order to get out of the circle of greed and in more general Christian mythos Satan or Lucifer tends to own one they uses to convince people to give up their soul) and I mean mirrors like this are a thing in DnD and I'm pretty sure that predates Harry Potter

Right in the first Harry Potter book, J.K. Rowling introduces one of the most fascinating items in the entire wizarding world: The Mirror of Erised.
Erised is just โdesireโ spelled backwards, which hints at it being an easy to decipher wordplay for children.
