The timer keeps going down even when you close the page then open it later, so when it finishes someone in the world needs to click something then wait again. According to the info page, you actually feed a real fish tank when the timer reaches 0.

There's an ad on Dutch tv right now for a shitty ripoff of Hay Day (?) that said "Already featuring over 2 million players in the Netherlands!". We are 17 million strong total. That means that, supposedly, one eighth of the entire population plays that shit. Only Candy Crush and its ilk are anywhere near that big.

My job has less of a problem with me playing games on Facebook than me attempting to install Oblivion on government equipment. (I also have a separate games account that only friends other game players, so I avoid annoying the people I care about.)

I work at a mobile game company that runs similar ads on Facebook. The number written in the copy is often the total number of downloads/installs, but I'm honestly not sure where Facebook's "#### people playing this" figure comes from. It's never been accurate in the case of my company's games. Facebook has no way of tracking our daily active user count (the app doesn't have Facebook integration or anything), and we sure as hell don't give out that kind of information.

It could also be that the game has players outside of Facebook for example, apps. Still it's hard to believe that a game that has 5 million players only has 50k on Facebook.

Some of these games make you log into Facebook to play them even if you're using it via mobile app and not actually on Facebook, so it counts the mobile players as Facebook players.

Yeah, plenty of games run externally from Facebook either on their own website or another hosted site (Kongregate, Armorgames, etc). If there's a large userbase in another language (say, Chinese), that could come into play as well from running the game on other social media sites.

You, for defending the ad. It states that "50,000 people play this", and not play-ING. That means 50k is the total amount of people who have downloaded the game and played once. Play-ING means they are currently playing, which they are not. Go back to 6th grade.
