Okay, let me go on my Talonflame rant real quick. Let's start by looking at the whole line. Fletchling - cute name! Like the fletching of an arrow combined with hatchling fledgling. Fletchinder - Cool, again with fletching, this time combined with cinder. Staying with the arrow theme and combining it with fire. Talonflame - what the shit? Talon and flame? I guess it has "inflame" in there too but where did the arrow theme go?
Oh wait, let's look at the Japanese name - Flarrow*. Wow! Now that's a name! Flare + arrow - it's perfect, keeps with the theme of the line and isn't two stupid words strung together. Honestly Gamefreak, sometimes the decisions you make are nonsense.
This is why I nickname every single Fletchling or Talonflame "Flarrow."

To piggyback on this, I want to promote my own name:
Let's look at the Tympole evolutionary line for a second. They are frogs with a sound theme.
Tympole - tympani + tadpole. Good. This includes frogs and sound.
Palpitoad - palpitation + toad. A palpitation is a vibration, I guess. Not the absolute best name, but it's a cute little fucker that makes up for it by being adorable if it runs around yelling Palpi Palpi.
Seismitoad. What the fuck is this? It gains seismic powers? Then why does it not learn fucking Earthquake?? It's final level up move is Hyper Voice, clearly showing that they are sticking with the sound theme rather than having something to do with imaginary earthquakes.
You know what would be the perfect name for this final evolutionary stage? AMPLITOAD. It's almost the perfect pun. He's still a toad, and would presumably have the highest amplitude to his sound attacks due to being the most powerful stage.
How did they miss something so obvious?
Feel free to stick with your "Seismitoad, the toad who has no seismic powers", but I'll stick with my "Amplitoad, the amplitude toad".
in terms of the actual Romaji, it's technically Fai-arrowโ so like Fire Arrow.
i don't know why they write it as Flarrow when it sounds nothing like that, the translations on Bulbapedia are all kinds of weird even though I think those might be the official translations, but they don't correspond with the japanese perfectly.

You actually misread it. It's not flarrow, it's 'faiarou'. Fai (like 'my') arou ('arrow')
Faia is how the English word fire is spelt and pronounced in Japanese. Then 'arrow' is appended, using the a from the end of Faia.

They should have made female Mr. Mimes have their names change to Ms. Mime. They wouldn't have to get a separate Pokedex entry or anything. Same moves, same Dex number and description, just a different name. Of course that'd mean an English-specific script be written just for that Pokemon, but I don't think that'd matter too much.

In third grade I was told by a fourth grader to pronounce it "Soo-see-en". When I protested and said the fourth movie pronounced it "Swee-coon" I was told the anime never pronounces anything right.
I trusted her for some reason and even complained when the announcer in Pokemon Stadium pronounced it "wrong".

I think that they probably share the use of the butthole and probably a lot of other bodyparts. The tail is rather small to have very many internal organs.
I asked this question about catdog. You see hair balls and other stuff fly though there body. But where the hell does it all end up? Where is the stomach, where is the small and big intestines? How is anything connected? Wouldn't they have extreme back problems? There's so many questions but none of it is possible to answer.
On that note, how much science can we put into each Pokemon to explain how they would work.

I assume that the black head is dominant and does the eating while the yellow head does the pooping though some tricky peristalsis.
Black head has only a vestigial brain though, as implied through the Pokedex. The Pokedex even says that it chews on air while the yellow head eats in a sort of blind mimicry.
I thought Snivy was pretty clever. He's a snake mady of Ivy, and he's got a snide look on his face. He knows that he's a badass, and he eventually becomes Serperior.

Serperior's name is pretty ironic considering Torterra and Venusaur (and in gen 6, Chesnaught) are all better Grass starters than it. If anything, it's Serp-ediocre.
You'd be amazed at how many people still haven't caught the analogous pattern with the legendary birds' names. And in the US, people are more likely to know the first few Spanish numbers than the German ones.

Magnemite & Diglett & Koffing & Deino were friends in Elementary school.
In Middle school, Koffing and Deino ditched the other two and got new friends when they evolved. They then became the group of Weezing & Zweilous & Doduo & Girafarig (Though Girafarig barely counted and they really didn't want her in the group.)
Before high school, Zweilous had a falling out with Weezing after evolving and he got new friends. Girafarig also was kicked out of the gang. Zweilous also met Weezing's old friends, Diglett and Magnemite, who had now evolved. And they also added a hefty Grass type to their gang. They then were known as Hydreigon & Dodrio & Dugtrio & Magneton & Exeggutor.
But then Magneton evolved senior year and they kicked it out, too. In college however, Exeggcute ruled over everyone else. No one messes with them!

Mildly semi-related fun fact:
Hoppip's signature move was supposed to be "splash". This probably seems odd, since Hoppip has nothing to do with water.
The reason is that the Japanese name of the move "Splash" is actually more like "Hop", but the Gen I translators saw that only a fish knew the move, so they decided to name it "Splash" instead. So Hoppip really knows the move "hop".
Gen I is full of strange translation decisions (like Swift, Metronome, Confusion, etc)
"Swift" is called 'Speed Star" in the original Japanese, which is why the attack is associated with stars.
"Metronome" is known as "Finger Wag" in the original translation. Often, you see Pokรฉmon wiggle their fingers before using this attack, as if selecting a move at random.
"Confusion" is "Mind Power" in the original game, which I think makes it sound way more powerful than it actually is.

One I know off the top of my head isn't from Gen 1, but it explains why Meteor Mash is affected by Iron Fist. The Japanese name for MM is Comet Punch, which was already a move in the English games. The Japanese name for Comet Punch is Consecutive Punch.
Amusingly, no pokemon can legally have both IF and MM (unless skill swap or the like is used.)
Well thunder and lightning are the same word in Japanese so the translators chose thunder, most likely due to "lightning punch" not able to fit in the text space provided in the earlier games and "thunderpunch" just fits

So Special Defense is determined by how clear-headed you are and how calm and/or happy you are. Such as the move "Calm Mind." It also somewhat determines your strength of character or integrity as well. (Which is why Naughty and Rash and Lax natured Pokemon have low Special Defense.)
The brain is responsible for our fears and paranoias. If your Pokemon is afraid, such as Growl or an opponent with Intimidate, it's Attack has fallen. But if your Pokemon is nervous or distracted, it's Special Defense has fallen. However, the move Amnesia would clear your mind of any worry or anxiety and relax you, thus increasing a peaceful state of mind. Amnesia doesn't also lower Special Attack as well because it is related to memory, not intelligence, and it is also temporary.

The stones are really like a phylactery for ancient wizards who mastered the various elemental schools of magic. The reason the stone is 'used up' is because when something starts to draw out the energy from the stone a safeguard teleports it to somewhere safe, generally underground. I shudder to see what would happen if one of those wizards was allowed to resurrect with the stones, after all, the energy that forces the pokemon to evolve is barely a trickle of the true power.

A portmanteau is when you combine two words together to make a new word or a nicknamed or slang word from it. Like "Smog" (Smoke + Fog). Or in Pokemon, "Trubbish" (Trash + Rubbish). Or "Crit" (Critical Hit).
A pun is simply using one word that sounds like another word to make a joke. The Team Rocket trio from the anime are infamous with those. (Meowth: "What do you call a fat-free Pokemon? Butter-free!") (Ash: "It's a Joy-ful world.")

To piggyback on this, I want to promote my own name:
Let's look at the Tympole evolutionary line for a second. They are frogs with a sound theme.
Tympole - tympani + tadpole. Good. This includes frogs and sound.
Palpitoad - palpitation + toad. A palpitation is a vibration, I guess. Not the absolute best name, but it's a cute little fucker that makes up for it by being adorable if it runs around yelling Palpi Palpi.
Seismitoad. What the fuck is this? It gains seismic powers? Then why does it not learn fucking Earthquake?? It's final level up move is Hyper Voice, clearly showing that they are sticking with the sound theme rather than having something to do with imaginary earthquakes.
You know what would be the perfect name for this final evolutionary stage? AMPLITOAD. It's almost the perfect pun. He's still a toad, and would presumably have the highest amplitude to his sound attacks due to being the most powerful stage.
How did they miss something so obvious?
Feel free to stick with your "Seismitoad, the toad who has no seismic powers", but I'll stick with my "Amplitoad, the amplitude toad".

in terms of the actual Romaji, it's technically Fai-arrowโ so like Fire Arrow. i don't know why they write it as Flarrow when it sounds nothing like that, the translations on Bulbapedia are all kinds of weird even though I think those might be the official translations, but they don't correspond with the japanese perfectly.

You actually misread it. It's not flarrow, it's 'faiarou'. Fai (like 'my') arou ('arrow') Faia is how the English word fire is spelt and pronounced in Japanese. Then 'arrow' is appended, using the a from the end of Faia.
Still fire-arrow which is also cool.

It's Fire + Arrow, not Flare + Arrow.
Flare is read in Japanese as Furea. Faia is the reading for Fire.

Magnemite & Diglett & Koffing & Deino were friends in Elementary school.
In Middle school, Koffing and Deino ditched the other two and got new friends when they evolved. They then became the group of Weezing & Zweilous & Doduo & Girafarig (Though Girafarig barely counted and they really didn't want her in the group.)
Before high school, Zweilous had a falling out with Weezing after evolving and he got new friends. Girafarig also was kicked out of the gang. Zweilous also met Weezing's old friends, Diglett and Magnemite, who had now evolved. And they also added a hefty Grass type to their gang. They then were known as Hydreigon & Dodrio & Dugtrio & Magneton & Exeggutor.
But then Magneton evolved senior year and they kicked it out, too. In college however, Exeggcute ruled over everyone else. No one messes with them!

Hoppip's signature move was supposed to be "splash". This probably seems odd, since Hoppip has nothing to do with water.
The reason is that the Japanese name of the move "Splash" is actually more like "Hop", but the Gen I translators saw that only a fish knew the move, so they decided to name it "Splash" instead. So Hoppip really knows the move "hop".
Gen I is full of strange translation decisions (like Swift, Metronome, Confusion, etc)

Metronome's Japanese name translates to 'Wag Finger'. You can, however, see where 'Metronome' comes from based on the movement of a wagging finer.
Confusion was called 'Mind Power'. Not too sure on this one, but I wonder if Psyduck's headaches had something to do with it?

"Swift" is called 'Speed Star" in the original Japanese, which is why the attack is associated with stars.
"Metronome" is known as "Finger Wag" in the original translation. Often, you see Pokรฉmon wiggle their fingers before using this attack, as if selecting a move at random.
"Confusion" is "Mind Power" in the original game, which I think makes it sound way more powerful than it actually is.

One I know off the top of my head isn't from Gen 1, but it explains why Meteor Mash is affected by Iron Fist. The Japanese name for MM is Comet Punch, which was already a move in the English games. The Japanese name for Comet Punch is Consecutive Punch.
Amusingly, no pokemon can legally have both IF and MM (unless skill swap or the like is used.)

Well thunder and lightning are the same word in Japanese so the translators chose thunder, most likely due to "lightning punch" not able to fit in the text space provided in the earlier games and "thunderpunch" just fits

First, you need to know what stats relate to in Pokemon.
HP = Physical size, weight or girth. (Snorlax, Lapras, Blissey, Wailord, etc.)
Attack = Physical Strength and Confidence (Slaking, Ursaring, Darmantian, Machamp, Haxorus, etc.)
Defense = Durability (Shuckle, Crustle, Cloyster, Steelix, Forretress, etc.)
Special Attack = Intelligence (Alakazam, Mewtwo, Chandelure, Gengar, Espeon, etc.)
Special Defense = Happiness/Peacefulness, Zen, Clear State of Mind (Kyogre, Blissey, Dusknoir, Uxie, etc.)
Speed = Nimbleness (Ninjask, Accelgor, Electrode, Jolteon, etc.)
So Special Defense is determined by how clear-headed you are and how calm and/or happy you are. Such as the move "Calm Mind." It also somewhat determines your strength of character or integrity as well. (Which is why Naughty and Rash and Lax natured Pokemon have low Special Defense.)
The brain is responsible for our fears and paranoias. If your Pokemon is afraid, such as Growl or an opponent with Intimidate, it's Attack has fallen. But if your Pokemon is nervous or distracted, it's Special Defense has fallen. However, the move Amnesia would clear your mind of any worry or anxiety and relax you, thus increasing a peaceful state of mind. Amnesia doesn't also lower Special Attack as well because it is related to memory, not intelligence, and it is also temporary.

The stones are really like a phylactery for ancient wizards who mastered the various elemental schools of magic. The reason the stone is 'used up' is because when something starts to draw out the energy from the stone a safeguard teleports it to somewhere safe, generally underground. Furthermore, there is an association between salamanders and fire. Basically, people used to think that salamanders were born from flames and were immune to their heat.

I would like to point out Delibird....the name struck me as weird because it has nothing to do with a deli.
However, in many languages v is pronounced with a b sound which gives us Delivird or Delivered. Delibird throws packages as an attack...he delivers them if you will.

MAYBE just MAYBE they where going to make a steel dog pokemon name lucario with the orichalcum theory and they saw that the word oracle appeared in the name too. this could of led them to add aura to him. please note that this is all my speculation.

You really don't. Ru-ka-ri-o is o-ri-ka-ru- (the first four syllables of 'orichalcum') backwards, which explains why Lucario is part steel.

A portmanteau is when you combine two words together to make a new word or a nicknamed or slang word from it. Like "Smog" (Smoke + Fog). Or in Pokemon, "Trubbish" (Trash + Rubbish). Or "Crit" (Critical Hit).
A pun is simply using one word that sounds like another word to make a joke. The Team Rocket trio from the anime are infamous with those. (Meowth: "What do you call a fat-free Pokemon? Butter-free!") (Ash: "It's a Joy-ful world.")
