I was just going to put the first line, because that jump rope triggered my nostalgia, but...when I got started, it just flowed. I'm 37. I haven't jumped rope since I was maybe 12-13. I probably haven't said Miss Lucy out loud since then. It was an early excuse to swear. Too funny.
EVERYTHING is safe for them now. My kids rarely come home scraped or bruised. I've played tackle football on gravel fields, seen my best friend get beaned with an aluminum bat, tangled my fingers in those rolling squares, gone Hulk during dodgeball and Red Rover, eaten shit falling off slides that had no side rail or skidding on hot unshaded concrete. And I'm a girl. My dude friends were doing way worse. And we're pretty tough, I'd wager.
To show kids that if they grow up to be like them they could jump rope on their butt? I remember being freaked out by how overly smiley everyone was. Nightmare fuel.
