Remember, nostalgia isn't about stuff that doesn't exist anymore. That is sometimes the case with nostalgic products, but it is not in any way a prerequisite.

I was just talking to someone about these. I fucking loved these things and one day I wanted my mom to buy the Danimals yogurt because of the Suite Life of Zack and Cody commercial and hated it. Immediately went back to Trix.
[deleted] ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 20:43:43 on November 8, 2014 ยท (Permalink)
Trix Yogurt has 14g of sugar. Danimals has 13g. The only popular "adult" yogurt I can think of offhand that has less sugar is Yoplait Light, which has 10g. Granted, it is a slightly bigger container (6oz rather than 4oz), so it's a good difference. But then regular Yoplait (also 6oz) has 27g of sugar. Activia (same size as Trix) has 17g of sugar. Chobani and Oikos seem to be, on average, about 18-20g. Stonyfield Farm seems to be on par with Yoplait, although [according to a quick search] it looks like their light yogurt has 12g, so I guess that one's better than the Trix.
This isn't including sugar-free alternatives, of course, because...well, obviously they're going to have less sugar. And I'm sure there are plenty of other less-popular brands out there that are healthier alternatives, but when it comes to mainstream yogurt in the US, the stuff designed specifically for kids is not any worse than the more "grown-up" choices. In fact, compared to several popular brands, kids' yogurt is healthier.
I can't find it anywhere, but there used to be this fruit roll-ups yogurt. It was really gross. There was just this gooey blob of roll-up in the middle of artificial fruit flavored yogurt.
The yogurt itself should be. Sounds like you won't get the nostalgia rush, though.
omarfw ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 18:52:43 on November 8, 2014 ยท (Permalink)
Naw I won't, but I like good yogurt. Just never thought to give this stuff a chance because it's got so much sugar in it and not as much protein as my usual stuff.
You could give it a shot, then. Just think of it as more like ice cream or candy than yogurt and you'll be alright. It's super sweet with a little bit of tart to it, almost like pureed (American, not British) smarties, from what I remember. So in other words, not at all like your usual stuff.
It doesn't have any more sugar than most other brands, unless you normally eat light or sugar-free yogurt. It indeed does not have much protein, though; only 4g per cup. Regardless, it is quite tasty.
ladyb07 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 20:19:53 on November 8, 2014 ยท (Permalink)
All I feel when I look at those is jealousy. Growing up we had the generic yogurt, dad wouldn't buy it because of the extra sugar and unhealthy bright colours. The other kids got the bright yogurt but I just got dairy land.
shakes fist at no fun father Though that being said... he was right and as an adult I'm glad he did it, but try telling 7 year old me that.

I don't think this would be considered "good yogurt". It's probably not much better than Go-gurt

I love me some frozen gogurt.

It blows Go-Gurt out of the water. Trix Yogurt was THE best yogurt when I was a kid, and it still tastes the same. They haven't ruined it.

Sure, they're super gross and full of added sugar and dyes and stuff, but I liked it as a kid, and it's probably why I love regular yogurt today.
