As a kid I used to take a bunch from the machine, hold on to them throughout the store, and then get bored and leave them in a random place. Ah memories! :')
Why would all of us do that? I remember loving it so much. But now I don't know why I loved it so much. I guess cause it seemed like they were infinite, and that was really cool I guess. : P
Similar memory for me. I remember my mom would yell at us so hard if she caught us taking them, so we would wait until she wasn't looking and grab as many as we could.
I probably still have a stack of them. I use to keep them in this little plastic container. It was like a competition on who can get the most while in the grocery store.

Yep, they are all over my Kroger store. But now they have little holders on top, so if you don't use the coupon, you can put it back.
But even when there are coupons on top... I still take one out of the dispenser because it is so much more satisfying, and then I put it up top with its forsaken brethren.
Nikki85 ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 19:48:05 on March 13, 2014 ยท (Permalink)
Yep my Kroger too. And I pull one out and put it on top when no one is looking lol
I've visited Kroger's in Tennessee and Kentucky and didn't see them there. It must depend on your local store and whether they have phased them out at that particular location.
Maybe it depends on where you are but I haven't seen one of these in at least 8 years. Most placed have phased these out. I've shopped in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, New York, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona in the past 8 years and I haven't seen these in any of those states listed.
Besides that, even if you have seen these recently a post like this is still relevant in a sub like this because it's the memories of these from our childhood that makes it nostalgic. Most of us used to hoard the coupons from these dispensers when we were little and so it reminds us of childhood visits to the grocery store. As another example of this I see kids playing hopscotch all the time, but despite that, it's still nostalgic to see because it brings me back to my childhood and I remember what it was like to be a kid playing hopscotch in my driveway. It doesn't have to be something you never see anymore to be nostalgic.
I'm sure it depends on where you are and what stores you visit. If I remember correctly the only town in Kentucky I've shopped in would be Fort Campbell and Hopkinsville.
I seriously considered these things like currency. They would say "Save $2" and I gave them to my mom to pay for whatever was on the coupon. "It says it's worth two dollars!!!" Took me a while to understand how coupons worked.

I thought these things were crazy high tech back in the day. I would wave my hand in front and it magically would dispense a coupon. Wish I could get my hands on one now. I would hack it to become a scotch tape dispenser or something
[deleted] ยท -6 points ยท Posted at 20:31:43 on March 13, 2014 ยท (Permalink)
They still have them sometimes, I don't see that many anymore though. The ones I do see, they have a time limit so grabby hands McGee can't just take 17 coupons at the same time.
[deleted] ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 16:04:41 on March 13, 2014 ยท (Permalink)
Ohhhhh man, got glared at soooooo many times just pulling these coupons out all day by the dozens in every aisle. So fun. Of course, these were around during the time when they still bagged your groceries for you, and even pushed your cart out and unloaded everything into the car for you.
I used to run down the isle, and snag each one as I passed, then turn around quickly and watch them all spit out a new one after 2 seconds one at a time.

Apparently the majority of us were annoying little kids, haha. I would take these too. I imagined they were tickets for something and just found it necessary to collect them (when my mother wasn't looking). I think I even took some of them home, though they'd promptly be thrown into the trash once I got bored of them.

Me: Don't worry mom, all the groceries are going to be free.
Her: What? How?
Me: I got like 40 $2 off coupons.
Her: We can't use them like that. Besides, these are only $2 off 3 bottles of Tide.
Me: So... you need me to get more then?
Her: Only if I was buying a bunch of Tide.
Me: How much Tide are we getting?
Her: None.
Me: But if we got a bunch of Tide it would make everything free. I'm not sure you know what you're talking about, mom.
Her: Maybe I don't. continues shopping
