I don't how much this will warm your cockles but I work at a daycare in th summer for kids up to 4. That book is always on the shelf. I have to read it often. They still love it. Thought you should know that the new generations are coming up with this book as well.

Oh wow. My 1st grade teacher had a big coconut tree in her room (fake, I don't remember what it was made of) and these velcro letters we could all stick to the tree. Memorriiiesss.
Preschool teacher here. I can recite this book word for word without looking at a single page.

When my older brothers were little, my mom made several cassettes of her reading our favorite books, along with songs with some tangential connection to the book. There were two or three cassettes total. I listened to them every night when she wasn't able to read to me. The ending of this book always scared me, though:
