The end of every chapter was exactly like this:

I opened the kitchen cupboard to see the dead body of my brother covered in blood fall onto the floor in front of me.

Holy Shit! Turn the page to next chapter

"Hahaha I got you, you should have seen your face!" My brother said laughing.

Sigh

Ryan Gosling starred in an episode of Goosebumps called Say Cheese and Die. He was very little and rather adorable.

He was also in an episode of 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

I'm sure Gilbert Godfrey was in the same episode, radio station about death or something

Hell. No. I'm adding that to "places to not go to". I mean I'm sure it's lovely, I suppose, but RL Stine gave me nightmares from that book cover haha.

I'll never forgive myself for night of the living dummy series. Still terrified of those dummies to this day.

jay212127 · 9 points · Posted at 20:31:53 on May 22, 2013 · (Permalink)

They dummy in the suit. My mom turned it off the TV when she saw goosebumps come on because she knew i didn't like the dummies. I decided to be brave and turn it on after she left the room.

I stood infront of the TV and manually pressed the power button, at the same time the picture came into focus there was a jump scare (i think he jumped at the screen, or said a scary line). Being within 2 inches of that fiend scarred me for my childhood.

My favorite will always be the first one, Welcome to Dead House. It was the only one to give me nightmares.

There was another one that I remember, I'm not 100% sure if it was a Goosebumbs book though. It opened with the main character dreaming the house was on fire. I can't for the life of me remember the title.

mungoo · 4 points · Posted at 14:22:25 on May 22, 2013 · (Permalink)

I think it was called "The Ghost Next Door," or something similar. About a kid who was a ghost but didn't realize it. I loved that one!

APocketTurtle · 1 points · Posted at 14:35:58 on May 22, 2013 · (Permalink)

Opened with her dreaming of burning, then she wakes up the next day, then it ended with her and her friend realising that when they were playing cootball/catch (or something) the ball was going through her body, and no-one else could see her.

Or something along those lines, it's been a while.

I remember there was an episode of the show, and a girl got to make all these wishes... she wished that she was the best player on her basketball team, and instead it just made everyone else garbage as fuck. Then later in the episode she accidentally wishes everyone "would just buzz off" and they all turned to bees.

I think I read every single one of the Goosebumps books, or at least all the ones that the libraries around me had. Scary stuff when you're in elementary school. A Shocker on Shock Street was the only one that was too scary for me to finish and I can't remember why.

[deleted] · 2 points · Posted at 21:26:00 on May 22, 2013 · (Permalink)*

The Cuckoo Clock of Doom scared me because If I remember correctly, the boy in the story kept getting warped back into time, or into the future. However, it wasn't like super far back in time, it was mostly like a few days ahead, or a few days back.

That tripped me out as a little kid.

edit: Here is the episode

I was wondering this exact thing. Was actually thinking of picking up the entire collection on eBay just to satisfy my nostalgia cravings, but I'm a bit worried I'll read through them again and find to my dismay that they actually sucked and I only liked them because I didn't know any better.

JonathanUnicorn · 3 points · Posted at 20:52:50 on May 22, 2013 · (Permalink)

I most-liked the choose your own adventure ones but I only had a handful of Goosebumps books but I remember them all fondly, nostalgic seeing the covers (went to a Wiki).

[deleted] · 3 points · Posted at 21:21:35 on May 22, 2013 · (Permalink)

That's a good point. This post sparked some serious nostalgia in me, so I went to Amazon to try and buy a bunch of Goosebumps books, but I'm nervous.

I hope they aren't super corny. I tried watching a few Goosebumps shows months ago, and I could barely get through the show. Awful acting and cheesy dialogue, but the nostalgia was great!
