I can't speak for most, but I had to unlearn a bunch of stereotypes. It was more like "i did all the things they do in movies, tv, and story books - why aren't you reacting the same way as the other character." In some cases, some girls even said they wanted these storytale endings. This isn't an excuse - its just what I was taught, and hope it gives some insight.
To be clear though, I eventually realized something was amiss and take responsibility for my own social skills. I'm still pretty dreadful in many social interactions, but I realize I still have to take responsibility for figuring it out.
It's worse when you see the girl with the "doucebag" after years of being taught to be the prince, thinking, "hey, wait! The princess isn't supposed to fall for the bad guy! She's supposed to fall for me! I followed all the rules."
Hurts bad when you find out that she was treated like a person, not a princess, by the "douchebag" who's really just confident in himself; every "rule" you were taught growing up was a lie.
I think people should just stop ignoring the fact that a wall means "Stay out". It doesn't matter if you have the ability to go through the wall, or even around it... if there's a wall there, have some respect and back the fuck off.
And making it worse, you don't even realise that you are pushing yourself to her and still don't get it that you should ask her out directly. Or stop asking, if she refuses.
Idk, I think building a literal wall in front of him is probably enough of a rejection as they need. Like, she's building that wall for a reason. Probably because she doesn't like him. And from personal experience, that's probably because he's making her uncomfortable.
