Bitchin' I'll have to see if this is the procedure my bank follows at a previous bank I worked for we just sent it off with the rest of our outgoing shipment and it was marked as mutilated.
Yeah counterfeit definitely goes to the secret service but there is a procedure or a way that "they" like it sent to them and no one in my branch knows magically.

It's a smaller bank and they suck so hard at policies that every branch just about does nearly everything a tiny bit different and its really stupid "they are working on getting an official policy and procedure guide" I honestly don't know how they function... : /

I work at a bank. We give out whatever bills recieved from our customers. But yes when we receive shipments they tend to contain the newer bills. Not once in the 2 years ive worked there has my manager ever said anything about puttinf old bills to the side to be shipped out.
well lets think this one out. If you have the paper bill in your house and you lose it for 20 years, its not like the treasury is going to upend your house looking for that 1 bill right?

I've seen an attempted counterfeit of the new hundred. It was very obviously fake. They holographic strip was a dead giveaway. But I think most counterfeiters make $20s from what I could tell. I'm guessing they're easier to pass.
Inflation makes me sad. The old one is from a time when 100 dollars actually went somewhere... Sure you could waste it on lucky jeans or jordans, but it would have also bought 100 gallons of gas. And a whole lotta 25 cent telephone calls!

The US has never invalidated any currency. If you wanna use an 1892 $5 bill at McDonald's, you're more than welcome to (assuming you can convince them to accept it). Only an idiot (or some teenager pillaging his dad's coin collection) would, though, since the 1892 $5 bill is likely to be worth much more than $5.
Having said that, notes are replaced as they get older and worn out. It's actually pretty rare to see one the old $100 bills in circulation these days. $100 bills aren't circulated nearly as much as $20 bills, and I can't even think of the last time I saw an "old" $20 in circulation.

That's exactly why I thought this picture was so cool. As I don't normally carry cash the old bill struck me as odd at finding one. We pulled out 2000 to pay for the deposit on our new place. And every one except the two older ones were the newer bills.
Paper money is "printed", not "minted". Also, unlike coins, dates on paper money aren't changed unless there's a change to the design (usually one of the signatures). There was one bill - I wanna say it was a $2 series 1899 silver certificate, but don't quote me on that - that was printed with the 1899 design and date until 1917.
FUN FACT: Until the mid 1970s, signature changes weren't considered "major", so instead of creating a new series, the Treasury would add a letter to the year of the existing series. That's why you sometimes see "Series 1969A" or "Series 1958B" bills.
A way to one up people flashing hundies is by doing it with multiple forms of currency and versions of said currency.

The Treasury says that it's a security feature, because humans are good at recognizing faces. The face might look a bit "off" on a shitty counterfeit. They also moved him slightly off-center for the same reason (lack of fold marks across the portrait).

I work at a bank. We give out whatever bills recieved from our customers. But yes when we receive shipments they tend to contain the newer bills. Not once in the 2 years ive worked there has my manager ever said anything about puttinf old bills to the side to be shipped out.

I've seen an attempted counterfeit of the new hundred. It was very obviously fake. They holographic strip was a dead giveaway. But I think most counterfeiters make $20s from what I could tell. I'm guessing they're easier to pass.

The US has never invalidated any currency. If you wanna use an 1892 $5 bill at McDonald's, you're more than welcome to (assuming you can convince them to accept it). Only an idiot (or some teenager pillaging his dad's coin collection) would, though, since the 1892 $5 bill is likely to be worth much more than $5.
Having said that, notes are replaced as they get older and worn out. It's actually pretty rare to see one the old $100 bills in circulation these days. $100 bills aren't circulated nearly as much as $20 bills, and I can't even think of the last time I saw an "old" $20 in circulation.

Paper money is "printed", not "minted". Also, unlike coins, dates on paper money aren't changed unless there's a change to the design (usually one of the signatures). There was one bill - I wanna say it was a $2 series 1899 silver certificate, but don't quote me on that - that was printed with the 1899 design and date until 1917.
FUN FACT: Until the mid 1970s, signature changes weren't considered "major", so instead of creating a new series, the Treasury would add a letter to the year of the existing series. That's why you sometimes see "Series 1969A" or "Series 1958B" bills.

The Treasury says that it's a security feature, because humans are good at recognizing faces. The face might look a bit "off" on a shitty counterfeit. They also moved him slightly off-center for the same reason (lack of fold marks across the portrait).
