I don't understand why the volume buttons change the ringtone volume by default anyway. How often does a person need to slightly change the volume of it? All you ever need to do it toggle between silent which could have a option in the quick toggles.

It's not so bad now that the current versions of android have a drop down when you press the volume button so you can easily change the media volume before actually playing any noise.

Smigg_e ยท 431 points ยท Posted at 07:38:54 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I used to have no problem lowering the volume before a video started, but I think after a YouTube update something changed and now the video has to actually start.. same for porn...

ohwowlol ยท 102 points ยท Posted at 12:08:35 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Different platform but an equally mildly infuriating ad issue: on desktop Spotify is compatible with my mouse quick-keybindings to pause/unpause media to play and pause songs. It is not compatible with ads. If I want to pause an ad, say to listen to a cat video on reddit, I have to swap over to Spotify and manually click the play/pause button.

Ghigs ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 19:40:30 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I have a related issue on my matricom g-box. The play/pause button on my keyboard remote works fine with youtube. But if I'm in Netflix on it, pressing play/pause starts Pandora blaring loudly in the background on whatever station I left it on instead of pausing Netflix.

Mephisto6 ยท 9 points ยท Posted at 15:10:21 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

If you want all the benefits of rooting your phone without having to change your OS from stock android, you should use Xposed! Then you can use this app called GravityBox that adds a billion new features, just like this one.

Pic related Right in the middle there is Force Media Volume Control. This way the buttons will only change the volume by default. You can still change the other volumes with the dropdown menu.

If you have a nexus phone its gonna be easy as pie. If you have a samsung phone... good luck!

Step 1. Download NRT (Nexus Root Toolkit)
Step 2. Click Unlock and Root buttons. (Follow onscreen instructions)
 Step 3. Install Xposed
 Step 4. Install Gravitybox

And thats just the beginning. I have like 10 different xposed modules running and they all do super nifty shit. Like removing ads from youtube, allowing youtube playback (all with the native app), permanently hiding specific notifications (like that android update one), custom snapchat hacks, etc.

Also have no phone on android tablet. Ringtone defaults but it doesn't lower/raise the others, if you touch the setting button on the right you can down (or up) notifications, media and system, all separately and one by one. Very annoying. If I want quiet, I want quiet not just the ringtone to be quiet or silent. I've been caught out a few times, reading or browsing whilst in bed with the grumpy grump monster (when he's awoken) lying next to me. I know I have to remember, but the only time I ever remember is when I've got a bit of grumping coming from the other side of the bed.

Not all tweaks are good. This one isn't.

betadevil ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 19:41:11 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

You'd find it annoying if you installed Skype on your mobile and has to use two separate controls to adjust the cellular and Skype ringer volumes.

That's why Skype uses the system ringer volume, same as for incoming cellular calls.

The tablet's volume control should control media volume by default.

I have an android tablet that defaults to vibrate (very loudly) if you mute notification sounds. DOES YOUR COMPUTER VIBRATE MR SAMSUNG? NO OF COURSE NOT BECAUSE ITS NOT A PHONE AND ITS FUCKIN ANNOYING.

[deleted] ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 12:48:33 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

notapotamus ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 13:14:53 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

no... no it would NOT. Think about what you just said for a moment.

[deleted] ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 13:29:08 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

OK let's see. My hand is over the mouse and doing some work, drawing some wires in AutoCAD Electrical. I then receive some mails, or some Windows 10 update notification. Then a short burst of vibration is activated, like for 0.15 - 0.20 seconds. The vibration is not very powerful to disrupt the way I draw lines with mouse, but strong enough to notify me. And direct my attention towards notification.

Or I'm playing CSGO, when ammo in my weapon is below some value. Then mouse vibrates in a short burst to notify me to reload my gun. Neat feature if you ask me.

More feedback doesn't hurt.

Patrik333 ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 11:50:58 on August 11, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Would be much better with a short beep or something that had no chance of influencing your hand movement (unless the beep scared you so much that you jolted)...

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:25:56 on August 11, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Maybe we can have vibration small enough to not effect hand movement but still notify us.

If two vibration motors* can be set up symmetrically, their movement along the plane of the mousepad would cancel. They can be synchronized electrically or mechanically.

Even without the proverbial tinfoil hat, that sounds plausible. And I see what you mean: see the rather unattractive Kia Soul EV, and Nissan LEAF. Though people actually bought/buy LEAFs so ยฏ\(ยฐ_o)/ยฏ

Minimalphilia ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 09:09:48 on July 1, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Exactly. No tinfoil here. One is free to interprete strategic decisions like the design. If I really wanted to push e-cars, I would take the design of my most successfull middle class car and just revamp it into an electric edition. (I would pay serious bucks for an electric VW bus from the 70s for example. I don't need an unreliable 40yo gas guzzler)

When I can make that thought you can't tell me it didn't cross the minds of the people in charge. I mean they have testgroups and everything.

I still won't insist on this theory when someone tells me "this hideous design did really well with test groups. We are as shocked as you are" or something like that.

[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:23:18 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Cons: Limited range of movement External power supply adds more clutter to desktop Bulky compared to other mouse/mouse pad combinations Lacks a scroll wheel, which is handy for gaming

Well it seems there are some reasons for its failure. Also looks like you have to install their software for the FF feature. More people would use it if it was a standard in Windows API/Driver thingies or whatever.

Not a pro on these things, so mine is just speculation.

Might be handy. I have issues with my volume going to completely silent which, but for a slightly different set of circumstances could have cost me my job (and has caused me minor problems on a couple of occasions).

All I really want is to have the ringtone forced to be on or on vibrate but this should be close enough. Thanks.

On my tablet I use Automate https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.llamalab.automate to link Media Volume and Notification Volume. That way, the volume rocker will always change my Media volume. However, it's not a solution for my phone use.

It's a really bad app. It doesn't change the default behaviour, it just plays constant inaudible noise so the device thinks it's playing media, thus killing the battery.

It happens when the device rotates to play media and you adjust the volume from there. If you rotate it again outside of the media player, you can get the arrow back.

713_HTX ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 11:27:54 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

There should be an icon similar to the one in the screenshot or at least some button to press. I'm not sure about Samsung/LG/HTC/etc phones, just Nexus phones and stock-based ROMs. I've only ever seen it in a similar format.

dudleymooresbooze ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 11:40:51 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Goddammit. From Google results, it looks like Motorola "simplified" it for my Droid Turbo, removing the ability to change anything but the current audio source. I fucking hate Motorola with a passion. Looks like I need to install another app to restore the basic volume controls.

Phoequinox ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 11:00:16 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 12:34:11 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

As a user interface developer this drives me crazy. I think I change my ringtone volume once every couple months. Now compare that to how often I listen to music while driving to work... google is usually top notch on usability but this is a big problem.

ZotFietser ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:09:34 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Normally it's 'content' aware though no?

On all android phones I've used this has been the case. If music is playing then the volume rocker will adjust that. Ditto if you're in YouTube or a similar dedicated app.

The only time I have issues is when video is in a web-browser (Firefox, or the in-app browser in Reddit is Fun, usually). So there's no audio untill you hit play so the rocker adjusts ringer volume ('system volume', I guess; notifications and so on.

I guess the idea is "no audio playing? must want the whole phone quieter. Is there audio? Adjust only that."

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:54:51 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Just an example:

Playing candy crush saga and pushing the volume adjusts the ring tone.

ZotFietser ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:58:01 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Seriously? That seems like it would be on the game devs rather than the android ones.

I don't play a lot of games on my phone, but stuff like lichess will trigger the 'media' volume over the ringtone volume.

[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 15:00:16 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah, you'd think with such a popular game they'd have a basic feature like that covered.

ZotFietser ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:06:20 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Popular =/= well made though I guess!

alleigh25 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 16:25:06 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

It is content aware, but that means you can't do anything (without pressing extra buttons) until the sound starts. That's not a big deal for music, but for example, I usually use it to turn media volume off when I don't want to make noise, then turn it back on so I can actually hear what I'm doing.

The contextual volume means I'd have to wait until it makes noise to keep it from making noise, defeating the whole point, and then miss the beginning before I can turn it back on.

on my phone I can change the default, but I'm on CM so that might be why

paqmanbiker ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:31:30 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I swear if I use the buttons it always adjusts the media volume, until I try to play a video, at which time it thinks I want to adjust the ring tone volume.

youwerethatguy ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:32:46 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

the current versions of android have a drop down when you press the volume button so you can easily change the media volume before actually playing any noise

So did cupcake and donut, but then I think it was removed in eclair

caldera ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:46:19 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

It could also be solved by the developers you would think too: just have your app switch the default volume it controls when open and override ringtone as volume.

GA_Thrawn ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:00:57 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Holy shit I never noticed the drop down button before, you're a savior! I also agree with your point

Sylvacre ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:56:50 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

There's an app for android called "rocker locker" that switches the default to media volume without root

Pterocles ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 16:14:06 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Google should let us select a default category for the volume rocker. For somebody who doesn't use their phone for media much, but is in and out of meetings all day, it makes sense as it is. For somebody who doesn't adjust the ringer often (ever, if you're me), but uses their phone for media, it doesn't make sense.

Admittedly, the drop-down menu was the best thing ever. In Jelly Bean I used to adjust the volume while music/video was buffering, only to adjust the ringer volume, then had to wait for the pop-up to go away while my music blasted at full volume before turning it down.

lackthereof0 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 16:40:03 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I did not realize that was a drop-down. It's a gear - i assumed it would take me to the settings page!

ferretflip ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 17:07:31 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

If you have a rooted phone, install Xposed and get the Audio Stream Music Default module. It makes the volume buttons change the media volume at all times instead of the ringtone. It's very strange to see this post because I got the module last night after getting upset over this.

I work in film and sometimes when my call time is 4 or 5 AM I want my alarm notifications to be as loud as possible.

Christof_P ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 17:35:54 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Alarm volume is separate from ringer volume.

I have my phone on vibrate 24/7, but use the alarm on my phone every day, and the alarm still makes noise when the phone is on vibrate/silent.

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:16:09 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

My volume control sets a general volume for ringer and notifications. It's a fast way to make sure shit's loud.

How often does a person need to slightly change the volume of it?

For if they go to school or work (depending on the job). It's nice to be able to put my phone on vibrate or really quiet with it still in my pocket.

My favorite iPhone feature is the mute switch. So damn useful.

BWalker66 ยท -1 points ยท Posted at 11:52:47 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

People turn their ringer notification volume up and down a few times. I'd say in the morning and at night for sure, to stop notifications and texts from waking them up. Then at work there's probably at least a couple times where you adjust your ringer.

I might adjust the media volume more but thats only while i'm watching the media, not when I'm randomly browsing my phone. It would make more sense to me to adjust the ringer volume while on some random app, or no app, than the media volume while playing no media.

But anyway the other point is that lets say the media volume is the default option, in which case would the ringer volume ever be made the default? There wouldn't be one. To change the ringer you would have to go into sound settings, or press the volume button which will change the media volume, the expand the popup, then use the touchscreen to adjust the ringer volume.

So although the current system may be annoying at times, I think it's better and less annoying than the alternative.

You can do a swipe up in the general vicinity of the volume menu to get rid of it.

Szos ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 16:18:49 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Worse, if you panic and hit the Back button YouTube is slow and unresponsive to it.

Wydi ยท 49 points ยท Posted at 11:07:35 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

GiveMeBackMySon ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 20:46:40 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I know, but my point was that you don't need it since you can control all the volumes from that screen. Sure it's an extra press, but not that big a deal.

Side note: I have a Nexus running Marshmallow and the Play Store doesn't say this app is not compatible with my device.

GiveMeBackMySon ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 20:59:32 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

It's not a secret to how it works. If you have that function, at any time I can press the volume key and that menu will pop up where I can control any/all of the volumes at any time... including before a video starts. And if a YouTube video is playing, it will default to the media volume.

Pretty much every custom ROM has an option to automatically select the media volume, Google really needs to implement this too.

verasgunn ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 12:57:15 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Marshmallow allows you to change volume of media, ringtone and even Alarm regardless of what you have up or not.

wmq ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 20:47:32 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Yes but you need an app or eg. GravityBox (module in Xposed) to control media volume with hardware volume keys.

[deleted] ยท -22 points ยท Posted at 11:25:17 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Google can't even figure out how to get the latest version on all phones at the same time.

[deleted] ยท 23 points ยท Posted at 11:28:10 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

It's not the fault of Google but the fault of Samsung and all those other Android manufacturs, except Nexus devices which are devices from Google themselves.

lance- ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 11:32:07 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Right. There are thousands of android handsets, while only a small handful of iphones. It would be nonsense to expect google to optimize android for each and every one.

folkrav ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 13:05:27 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

It's not about optimizing them but really having no direct control over it. The manufacturers basically take the AOSP code (open source) and customize it. Google has no control on the manufacturers' code, so they can't enforce anything.

Only option they would have would be to actually have some provision in the Android licensing that specifies a minimum upgrade period, but how enforceable would that be, I really wonder.

Quteness ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 00:31:10 on June 30, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Very enforceable if it's in the license. They couldn't have gotten away with it early in their life but if the changes it now they would lose a significant market share but it would most likely stick in court.

Quteness ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 00:32:46 on June 30, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

That would also fuck over smaller Android developers, including those who developed for personal use which would be a bad thing in the in Google mindset.

[deleted] ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 12:55:00 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

That's not up to Google. That's up to service providers and device manufacturers.

nbshark ยท 50 points ยท Posted at 08:22:31 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

It needs to recognize that there is audio coming from an app. It's extremely annoying when it thinks it doesn't and lowers the volume of the ringtone and keeps blasting the Youtube or game music.

droppies ยท 55 points ยท Posted at 11:06:38 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

The worst is, it used to default to media volume in youtube, but they changed it so now it's only media volume when sound is playing.

dragoull_cfc ยท 27 points ยท Posted at 12:24:31 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Totally agree, why the hell did they even change it? It was perfect the way it was before.

LPriest ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 12:40:18 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah I used to start the music app without playing anything and then hold down the volume button. Totally missing it

Mzsickness ยท 25 points ยท Posted at 11:33:35 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

And the fucking worst part is the new update now means you gotta click the down arrow to get to all the volume settings.

It may seem trivial at first but adding 1 extra task to task I have to do 100 times a day is fucking ridiculous.

Before it was not as bad, click volume on the side, oops then slide the correct slider. Now you have to hit the arrow and then slide the corresponding slider.

No I'm in meetings constantly. So I need to silence my phone. But I also love to reddit. Really fucks up my day.

Gotta turn volume up and down when I wanna watch 50 youtube vids. Yeah.. youtube.. definitely youtube.

ianuilliam ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:00:32 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

You could always just swipe down the quick settings and hit do not disturb mode when you go in a meeting. Takes all of 1 second.

Mzsickness ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 14:17:19 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I need the ringer to be turned on outside of them.

That actually causes more effort, I've tried it.

Clicking the volume button, pressing, and swiping up to exit was much faster.

I mean it's trivial, but it's annoying.

[deleted] ยท 8 points ยท Posted at 11:11:37 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

ADD_MORE_BOOSTERS ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:48:44 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Really shitty design that makes the user have to press two extra times to do a simple task, made even worse by the fact that they are onscreen, so you have to have both hands available and be looking at the screen. Even if it is fast, all you need is a quarter second of loud audio to play when you aren't expecting it to be very annoying/embarrassing.

LegendGames ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 11:40:59 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

This is more annoying with my phone, because it doesn't even have calling or texting on it, so the ringtone only goes off (for alarms) only once every month or two.

If you have Xposed, there are 2 modules that might help: Audio Stream Music Default (for this functionality only) and if that doesn't work or you want something with more options, VolumeSteps+.

They don't have the battery drain that other apps might have.

HappyMan420 ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 12:10:14 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Yes it is. It's a massive battery consumer, because it tricks your phone into thinking that media is being played by having the app play unnoticeable white noise at all times.

I'm not a fan of the method personally, cause I'm anal about the battery life on my phone, but it does work if you don't care about that.

Mezase_Master ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 12:26:31 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I always check my volume before opening a video at work or similar environments, but what annoys the piss out of me is when I open a link that's a video or an article that has a video without expecting it. Then I panic and turn down the volume constantly while also trying to return to the previous page, but if I'm unfortunate enough to have a good connection, then I have to be the center of attention because of some embarrassingly loud sounds.

The worst part is that if you were "adjusting your ringtone volume" just before the video starts, the volume buttons will continue to do that until you tap away from it or wait a few seconds before hitting the volume buttons again.

How? Does it launch whenever you touch the volume rocker?

Otherwise, it's only another extra step to adjust volume, rather than a fix for the volume rocker not doing what we want.

COTX ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 12:24:37 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Usually if the video is paused or loading it will do this. I agree with other posts that the volume for ring tone should really just be a toggle.

Bottled_Void ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 12:28:14 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

My last update to android gave a little drop down to the right of the volume. So now I can!

Best update ever.

croppergib ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:52:45 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

It should still sink the volume together or at least take the media one as default

__reset__ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 12:37:32 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

T_Hummus ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:03:42 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

YouTube app used to change the media volume even when not watching a video... and then they updated it. Now I have to wait for the video to start. Why would you even change that in the first place? Was it worth it?

l0calher0 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:15:10 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I can't even lower or raise the volume of a video while I'm on a call. Not even on the Video's slider. It used to work before the mew iPhone update. What kind of stupid crap is that? How do they have a feature and then take it away in an update?

_conzzooo_ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:17:25 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

ouqt ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:17:57 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I use pi control app, which allows me to select a small side of the bezel to flick from and open volume controls as an overlay.

That way, no matter which screen I'm on I can quickly flick volume off or on. Should be part of android. caption

ouqt ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:19:06 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

That semi circle only appears when you flick from the side bezel.

Gesepp ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:19:41 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

I also hated this, so I just want to give a quick shoutout to Sound HUD. It lets you customize the slider that appears when you change volumes. Now it's much easier for me to click to lower ringtone volume once to make the slider appear, and then slide the media volume to 0, before having to open a video.

Obviously I agree with everyone wise that stock Android should have a quick toggle for this, but until then, you might want to see if this helps you.

a_shootin_star ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:24:22 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:28:50 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

More like, trying to turn down the volume not to wake anyone up, and this happens.

Now I CAN'T PAUSE the video (because it's still buffering), I CAN'T turn the multimedia volume down because the ringtone volume bar still hasn't disappeared from the screen AND the video starts playing...

Well shit, now I woke everyone up.

When I turn up and down the volume on my Nexus 5 there is an arrow that pops up that if I click on, will show all the various volumes including video volume. For some stupid reason sometimes when I start a video and it's buffering/not started yet, the arrow will disappear. Annoying as hell and I wish I knew what causes it.

Oh you gave up and deleted half the sentence to retype it all out because that was literally easier than getting the cursor where you want it?

You can also expand the volume control panel by default, reduce the time it takes for the control panel to disappear, long-press volume to change audio tracks, add more volume increments, enable safe headphones volume... :)

I have an iPhone and I haven't had to do this since I realized you could change the volume in that little menu that pops up at the bottom of your screen.

Useful for checking the volume before watching porn rather than frantically mashing the volume down button and hoping it'll switch from ringtone volume to sound volume in time.

The_Celtic_Chemist ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 17:09:13 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

By the time you wait for that to fade away, the sound on your video will start and blast you, guaranteed. If you hit the volume why don't they show all volume options? Or an option in the corner to take you to the volume control?

ferretflip ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 17:09:34 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

What phone have you got? I've got an LG G3 so it'll be different for you unless you have the same.

There may be other ways to do it but I've installed xposed framework, then installed g3tweaksbox and there's a setting in there to force media control using volume buttons.

Google will help you if you don't know about xposed framework. I think you need a custom recovery like TWRP to flash it.

Another reason I'm switching back to iPhone, this is my first Android and I gotta say not a lot of common sense went into this phone. Don't get me wrong it has some really cool features but for me the cons out weigh the pros. Another dumb thing it does is it saves all my voicemails to my music library, like that's what I wanna hear while working out. My wife's note 3 does it too.

Biobak_ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 16:58:10 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

You'll need to transfer data every hour every day to notice the storage problems. Android really has improved since the beginning and is now almost bug-free. Of course, different devices means different problems, but overall Android is great. For the UX problems, the Play Store is not as restrictive as iOS regarding design so people upload apps that does not conform with Material Design. That's one thing I envy from iOS.

This keeps your speakers on, draining battery

Pretty sure using android daily is /r/mildlyinfuriating

Biobak_ ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 11:46:22 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Android, like any other OS, has its strenghts and its flaws. I could say the same, not having widgets, a Settings shortcut in the notification shade, NFC/bluetooth transfer and alternative apps is more than mildly infuriating.

I enjoy not having to play musical ROMs to get a functioning phone. To each their own.

Biobak_ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:46:31 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Musical ROMs? That doesn't even exist. Android works as well as iOS.

SidewaysLens ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 14:20:35 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Android works as well as iOS.

Lol ok, putting aside that that is blatantly false, what phone do you have and what version of Android is it on? How long after release did you have to wait if you don't use ROMs?

Biobak_ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:56:51 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Tell me, how is it false? What can iOS do that Android can't? How is having an iOS device better that an Android one?

I have a Zenfone 2, a 2014 phone. It is on Android 5.1.1 with a custom ROM. The official ROM is on 6.0.1 but I didn't like it so I changed. I did not ahve to wait as ROMs were available in roughly the first two months after the phone's release. What are you trying to say?

How long after release did you have to wait if you didn't use ROMs?

That's the point of ROMs, buddy. If you don't like the stock ROM or the updates are taking too long, you flash a custom ROM. That's how phones like the Galaxy S2 can run on the latest Android version, when the iPhone 3G for example, can't run iOS 9.

SidewaysLens ยท -1 points ยท Posted at 17:15:42 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

LOL, bring up a phone from 2008. Sorry, but the fact that you have to install a ROM just prove my point. iOS is a superior operating system because no one feels like they need to change it.

To even pretend like Ios is not more consistently polished and well thought out just a joke.

Biobak_ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 17:51:50 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah, the old Galaxy S. Samsung doesn't update it since a long time yet the community keeps on making ROMs with th latest version. Can you have the latest version on an older iPhone? No.

How did it prove your point? Everyone has different tastes. I didn't like it, so I changed it. Let's say one doesn't like the looks of iOS. What can they do? Can they change the icons? Can they apply themes? Can they change font? No, they're stuck with what they have. I did not HAVE to install a ROM, I just WANTED to because I did not like ASUS' UI. Apart from that, everything worked fine.

iOS is well-thought if you like he phone like they gave it to you. If you like customization and freedom, Android is better. I don't know what version of Android you get this from but the latest versions (5.0+) are smooth, polished and almost bug-free.

That's what Android users don't get. The UI is actually not shit and iOS users don't want to change it.

iPhones from 2011 run the latest version.

Biobak_ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 19:32:48 on June 29, 2016 ยท (Permalink)

Just because it isn't shit to you doesn't mean it isn't shit for everyone. You may like it but I'm willing to bet a lot of people with iPhones hate the design. Why is it that so many people Jailbreak their device?
Android's UI isn't shit either. Some manufacturer's skins might not be beautiful but Stock Android is eye pleasing and coherent.

If you like your iPhone there's no problem, just don't claim it to be better by imagining problems on the other OSs.
