Are you kidding? There are two positions where Red could play to win. Even by 'throwing away' this turn, Yellow can only block one of those options. No matter where Red plays this turn, he is still guaranteed to be able to win on his next one. Yellow cannot win in this situation. This is just maximum BM.
If you look at Yellow's options, Red is denying him the only reasonable way to win. Red isn't throwing away the game, he is playing with his food before he completely destroys Yellow. Red doesn't want to simply win this battle, he is going to crush Yellow so hard that Yellow never has the foolish notion to challenge Red again. Red has not simply won this battle. He has won all future battles.

He's been doing this for a while now as well, since Red couldn't have created both victory points within one turn. Yellow knew Red could've won a long time ago but kept playing anyway, and didn't even bother to block either of the winning moves by Red. Yellow must have known for a while now that Red is the superior player, but refuses acknowledge this fact and concede... It is Yellow who is throwing the game, not Red. He should have blocked off Red, but he didn't. He should have conceded when red created the second option, but didn't. He simply refuses to face the truth: Red is better at Connect4.
No joke, read the book. The extra detail you get is amazing. That, and picturing Ender the correct age when the book starts (which is 6) really changes things for me.
The book is terrific and many times better than the movie, but reading it after watching the ending really takes the "wow" factor out of the experience.
Yeah... no. You know what a bad movie is? Catwoman. I kid you not, most subtitles I've seen for that piece of shit are creative masterpieces in comparison. No, Ender's Game is far from a bad movie.
"Bad Manners". In the online gaming community people will often "BM" when their victory is assured. Like intentially making bad moves, wasting time, making their character dance/laugh, etc. It really gets under the opponent's skin
Well you're about a decade late but better late then never I suppose.
The single player is fun if you like hack and slash RPGs. The multiplayer adds a lot but I don't know how active it is now.
Diablo 2 was very good back then, but it doesn't hold up nearly as well. Honestly, play Diablo 3 now. At launch it had some serious issues, but it's gotten a massive amount of support since then, and has been in a wonderful state for a good while now.

I count 14.
Ewannnn · 11 points · Posted at 23:55:36 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
I don't think anyone could really argue letting your child win is bad. You want to make the child enjoy the game. You're not trying to curb stomp them into submission ffs. Do that when they're like 15 and vying for dominance.
[deleted] · 6 points · Posted at 22:15:38 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
If you don't show your dominance, your child will assume it's the alpha and challenge your position. Never let your child eat first, don't let it get on the furniture and punish it when it barks at guests.
Not arguing that but sometimes a kid has to lose to understand its possible and what that feels like. Otherwise they play with people who aren't their parents who beat them and they can't comprehend how to feel losing and act out maybe.
Except there's almost no way that Red can lose at this point. Not only does Red have two winning moves he can make, but he's also blocking Yellows only possible winning move.
[deleted] · 2 points · Posted at 00:37:30 on January 3, 2016 · (Permalink)
To clarify, in the context of Connect Four, it's when one of the players has created a situation where their opponent is forced to make a move that leads them to lose.
For example. Here Blue has created a situation where Red has to block the diagonal victory, but by doing so loses next turn to a horizontal victory.
Isn't it more mildly infuriating that the chips are all over the table and in the tray, when there's a tube on each side that's meant to dispense the chips... Ridiculous.
What else bothers me is that there are pieces on the table when there is a tray underneath to hold the pieces, and Red and Yellow are holding pieces when there are empty piece dispensers on the sides. This should also go to r/crappydesign.

ManaPot · -1 points · Posted at 23:00:21 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
Everyone here is missing the point. Kids won't notice this type of thing, adults do (obviously). Red represents the parent, yellow is the child. It is depicting the parents purposefully not making the best moves in order to let their child have a chance at winning.

I don't think anyone could really argue letting your child win is bad. You want to make the child enjoy the game. You're not trying to curb stomp them into submission ffs. Do that when they're like 15 and vying for dominance.

If you don't show your dominance, your child will assume it's the alpha and challenge your position. Never let your child eat first, don't let it get on the furniture and punish it when it barks at guests.

JacksWastedTime · 2 points · Posted at 23:31:17 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
Not arguing that but sometimes a kid has to lose to understand its possible and what that feels like. Otherwise they play with people who aren't their parents who beat them and they can't comprehend how to feel losing and act out maybe.
DownbeatWings · 3 points · Posted at 23:50:32 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
Except there's almost no way that Red can lose at this point. Not only does Red have two winning moves he can make, but he's also blocking Yellows only possible winning move.
bluetrunk · 3 points · Posted at 23:56:24 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)

To clarify, in the context of Connect Four, it's when one of the players has created a situation where their opponent is forced to make a move that leads them to lose.
For example. Here Blue has created a situation where Red has to block the diagonal victory, but by doing so loses next turn to a horizontal victory.

Pinworm45 · 0 points · Posted at 23:14:59 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
You know, they had to come up with this design. I bet they designed like this specifically to get people talking about this game.
There's this thread for example. But imagine in a store. A kid seeing it. HEY MOM LOOK AT THIS! LOOK HOW SILLY IT IS! Red could easily win twice!
Suddenly, a box is being held in front of mom. that's extremely powerful.
TheMinecraft13 · 2 points · Posted at 01:17:42 on January 3, 2016 · (Permalink)
Or maybe they just made a random pattern instead of expecting children to overanalyze the strategy of the character in the picture on the box...
Nah, that would be stupid.
sparemethewearysigh · 0 points · Posted at 23:17:56 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
Isn't it more mildly infuriating that the chips are all over the table and in the tray, when there's a tube on each side that's meant to dispense the chips... Ridiculous.
Da_Mockracy · -1 points · Posted at 21:31:27 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
What else bothers me is that there are pieces on the table when there is a tray underneath to hold the pieces, and Red and Yellow are holding pieces when there are empty piece dispensers on the sides. This should also go to r/crappydesign.
d3phext · -1 points · Posted at 21:41:55 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)

d3phext · 1 points · Posted at 03:06:51 on January 3, 2016 · (Permalink)
That's a bit much... I'm not saying there's some conspiracy. Just wondering because they were "checker-colors" all my life AFAIK until right now.
majoroutage · 3 points · Posted at 22:16:51 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
Probably for the contrast when they redid the grid plastic and changed from yellow center and blue supports to a solid all-blue design.
[deleted] · 2 points · Posted at 22:57:07 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
Probably because Red/Blue/Yellow are primary colors and its a kids game
RoNPlayer · 1 points · Posted at 00:24:23 on January 3, 2016 · (Permalink)

ben123111 · 2 points · Posted at 00:37:04 on January 3, 2016 · (Permalink)
He could of won in two different ways with that one move
ManaPot · -1 points · Posted at 23:00:21 on January 2, 2016 · (Permalink)
Everyone here is missing the point. Kids won't notice this type of thing, adults do (obviously). Red represents the parent, yellow is the child. It is depicting the parents purposefully not making the best moves in order to let their child have a chance at winning.
