Clear as in short for "All clear" and "Enter" as in short for "Enter again".

spongebue ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 18:03:43 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Regular telephone keypads don't have the Q or Z letters on the number pad, but they also don't have any letters on the number 1. So at least there's a reason for that.

shinnen ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 13:21:59 on October 13, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

VanFailin ยท 13 points ยท Posted at 17:10:16 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Was trying to set up my bank of America credit card to be paid out of an external account. There were far too many steps. The confirmation buttons changed places several times, and it was always "add external account"/"don't add external account" instead of "OK"/"cancel" like every other goddamn form in the world.

Ravek ยท 10 points ยท Posted at 21:16:51 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Nowadays it'd be more like 'Add external account"/"Cancel" because UIX designers have realised that it's better to be unambiguous.

Swipe card, remove pump, select grade, start pumping. Now change that order around, and if you mess up at any point you have to wait a minute for it to reset so you can start over. I can't gas.

UnKamenRider ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 17:51:29 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

My fiance locked his card on an atm that had a green "cancel/clear" button a couple weeks ago. It wasn't a touch screen, and we were in a hurry. It locks the card after three cancelled transactions. We were less than thrilled.

witeowl ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 19:27:02 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

OK, I can understand the frustration of accidentally canceling the transaction once. I can even understand twice. But three times? That's a special kind of "in a hurry".

pynaple ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 18:14:57 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

It could be a safety thing. What is this attached to? If it's a debit machine, it's stupid, but if it's attached to something dangerous I could see it being part of the safety routine to clear first if you think you made a mistake and not push enter until you've done a double check. Hence, green is good, push that if you're not sure. Don't press enter unless you're sure, hence the yellow for caution.

migle75 ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 19:10:06 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

NotAPie ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 23:52:22 on October 12, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Something similar happened to me when I was in High School.

I was sick, like really fucking sick, for a while. It sucked, but it was getting better. Except at night and the morning, my nose would clog the fuck up in the morning and my head would pound. Ditto for the night.

My mom ended up buying me some gel pills. I think they were Vicks NyQuil and DayQuil. Green for night and orange for day. She had bought a small pack that lasted for 2 nights and 2 days. On the third day, she went out again and bought a different brand.

It looked almost exactly the fucking same except the colors were reversed and I knew they were. So I took one at night and the next morning, I went through my normal routine. Check my phone...get a glass of water...take my ADHD medication...take the orange pill...do my hair...brush my teeth...get my backpack and go to school.

Fuck. Within minutes of getting into the school I realized what I had done. It was fine for about half an hour but in the middle of class I felt fucking horrible.

That day was painful.
