To be completely fair, it was a partial bamboozled. Because it caught and became the top comment, after mr. watercolors had already commented on the string theory one, saying that that was selected and that he was leaving. Because the limit as x approaches 0 for the equation 1/x (or any constant over x) changes depending on which side you approach it from. It's either infinity or negative infinity depending on how you look at it, so either you specify a side or you call it DNE.
Edit: Actually, if that constant is 0 (0/0), it's undefined rather than DNE.
I recently got a very simple explanation for this. Infinity is a number, however big. But there's no number of zeroes that you can add to get another number.

TBH I'm not the best at number theory and infinity -- however I do know that infinity is a bit weirder than that. For instance, there is more than one infinity. There is countable infinity, which relates to the number of all rational numbers and also the number of all integers. Then there is uncountable infinity, which is the number of all real numbers, and also the number of all real numbers between 0 and 1. Despite both being infinite, uncountable infinity is still larger. There are also aleph numbers which deals with set theory.
Another thing with infinity, โ/โ does not always equal 1 and โ - โ does not always equal 0. Also โ/0 is still DNE, although both โ0 and 0โ are undefined. Another fun question, take countable infinity in this case, since if it were a number it would have to be an integer. All integers have parity, so is infinity even or odd?
But really, IMO those don't quite contradict my assertion, and are mostly the effects of infinity not being any particular number--though inf0 and 0inf weird me out for now. Cantor's two infinities are different, I believe, simply because real and natural numbers can't be mapped to each other--though again I'm not sure that I'm not butchering the definitions by mixing cardinal numbers with real and natural ones.

it wasnt the top comment so why does it matter? the comment he wrote on the wall was the clear winner from the start, there wasnt something ahead of it and then that was deleted, there was just comments deleted later. So I mean, again, why does deleting a comment that not the winner, no matter how top it was, matter? It wasnt going to jump thousands and thousands of votes suddenly to overpower the top comment that literally got over 30,000 votes.
It was vote manipulation from the beginning. This "top" post should never have been in the running. It was pretty obvious if you saw the timeline of the thread as it was happening.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I beg to differ.
What reddit is doing by launching their new feature and then ("suddenly no bamboozle lol") hosting their example user is underhanded and manipulative. Furthermore, giving more attention to power users is undemocratic and kills net neutrality on reddit.
That isn't just undemocratic, but it's also desperately hypocritical given how the site is pro net neutrality in the "real" world. The site has millions and millions of users, and if the recent election hasn't taught you that how we present our arguments fucking matters, I don't know what will.

In physics, string theory is a theoretical framework in which the point-like particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings. String theory was first studied in the late 1960s as a theory of the strong nuclear force, before being abandoned in favor of quantum chromodynamics. Subsequently, it was realized that the very properties that made string theory unsuitable as a theory of nuclear physics made it a promising candidate for a quantum theory of gravity. The earliest version of string theory, bosonic string theory, incorporated only the class of particles known as bosons. It later developed into superstring theory, which posits a connection called supersymmetry between bosons and the class of particles called fermions. Five consistent versions of superstring theory were developed before it was conjectured in the mid-1990s that they were all different limiting cases of a single theory in eleven dimensions known as M-theory. In late 1997, theorists discovered an important relationship called the AdS/CFT correspondence, which relates string theory to another type of physical theory called a quantum field theory. One of the challenges of string theory is that the full theory does not have a satisfactory definition in all circumstances. Another issue is that the theory is thought to describe an enormous landscape of possible universes, and this has complicated efforts to develop theories of particle physics based on string theory. These issues have led some in the community to criticize these approaches to physics and question the value of continued research on string theory unification.

To be completely fair, it was a partial bamboozled. Because it caught and became the top comment, after mr. watercolors had already commented on the string theory one, saying that that was selected and that he was leaving. Because the limit as x approaches 0 for the equation 1/x (or any constant over x) changes depending on which side you approach it from. It's either infinity or negative infinity depending on how you look at it, so either you specify a side or you call it DNE.
Edit: Actually, if that constant is 0 (0/0), it's undefined rather than DNE.

Then there is uncountable infinity, which is the number of all real numbers, and also the number of all real numbers between 0 and 1. Despite both being infinite, uncountable infinity is still larger. There are also aleph numbers which deals with set theory.
Another thing with infinity, โ/โ does not always equal 1 and โ - โ does not always equal 0. Also โ/0 is still DNE, although both โ0 and 0โ are undefined. Another fun question, take countable infinity in this case, since if it were a number it would have to be an integer. All integers have parity, so is infinity even or odd?

What reddit is doing by launching their new feature and then ("suddenly no bamboozle lol") hosting their example user is underhanded and manipulative. Furthermore, giving more attention to power users is undemocratic and kills net neutrality on reddit.
That isn't just undemocratic, but it's also desperately hypocritical given how the site is pro net neutrality in the "real" world. The site has millions and millions of users, and if the recent election hasn't taught you that how we present our arguments fucking matters, I don't know what will.

In physics, string theory is a theoretical framework in which the point-like particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings. It describes how these strings propagate through space and interact with each other. On distance scales larger than the string scale, a string looks just like an ordinary particle, with its mass, charge, and other properties determined by the vibrational state of the string. In string theory, one of the many vibrational states of the string corresponds to the graviton, a quantum mechanical particle that carries gravitational force. Thus string theory is a theory of quantum gravity. String theory is a broad and varied subject that attempts to address a number of deep questions of fundamental physics. String theory has been applied to a variety of problems in black hole physics, early universe cosmology, nuclear physics, and condensed matter physics, and it has stimulated a number of major developments in pure mathematics. Because string theory potentially provides a unified description of gravity and particle physics, it is a candidate for a theory of everything, a self-contained mathematical model that describes all fundamental forces and forms of matter. Despite much work on these problems, it is not known to what extent string theory describes the real world or how much freedom the theory allows to choose the details. String theory was first studied in the late 1960s as a theory of the strong nuclear force, before being abandoned in favor of quantum chromodynamics. Subsequently, it was realized that the very properties that made string theory unsuitable as a theory of nuclear physics made it a promising candidate for a quantum theory of gravity. The earliest version of string theory, bosonic string theory, incorporated only the class of particles known as bosons. It later developed into superstring theory, which posits a connection called supersymmetry between bosons and the class of particles called fermions. Five consistent versions of superstring theory were developed before it was conjectured in the mid-1990s that they were all different limiting cases of a single theory in eleven dimensions known as M-theory. In late 1997, theorists discovered an important relationship called the AdS/CFT correspondence, which relates string theory to another type of physical theory called a quantum field theory. One of the challenges of string theory is that the full theory does not have a satisfactory definition in all circumstances. Another issue is that the theory is thought to describe an enormous landscape of possible universes, and this has complicated efforts to develop theories of particle physics based on string theory. These issues have led some in the community to criticize these approaches to physics and question the value of continued research on string theory unification.
