Yes for sure. Of course this only happens with close family/friends, so it's definitely a mutual "agreement" to get more competitive. We all enjoy good competition and that's part of the reason why we are so close; we challenge each other.

Yeah, I know how it gets playing video games with my brothers. We've gotten pretty heated at times, I sometimes have to remind them it's just a damn video game, it doesn't matter. Played MP3 with a friend last night. I told him not to set too many turns because the game will inevitably wind up with one of us completely pissed off with ten turns still left. He insisted it wouldn't.
I vividly remember his rage when he checked the turns and there were ten remaining. Never called anything so spot on in my life.
I dunno. When this game first came out I was trying to get the stars or whatever for finishing every race in each cup in first place. So frustrating because this was scenario happened very often. Lead every race until the end -> pray that the game has mercy.
It's funny in multiplayer if you're jamming with friends but against the CPU you just want to get up and snap the disc in half.
It's so avoidable. Just turn off "balanced" items or whatever so that you don't get rewarded for being in last place. I never understood why by default they'd give last place items that would automatically put them in first. If you turn that off, everyone just gets like green shells and stuff. Then it's all skill.
Because some people suck. My wife and I have played roughly 100 hours of multiplayer Mario kart. If there were balanced items I would win 100% off the time, by a landslide. I still usually win, but not always.
Having a comeback mechanic allows people of different skills to play together and have fun. Sure occasionally something like this happens, but usually the better players still win.
I suppose. I guess it is supposed to be a casual game. I used to go for world record time trials and stuff so I'd always get pissed off in multi-player when I'd have a perfect run and still lose because some scrub got a bullet.

A couple of back to back rounds in doubles with a shitty rando teammate who tries to forfeit after 1 goal and is verbally abusive in chat will do that too.
I would angrily yet feebly pull on my controller and then bounce it off the desk in defeat. Then immediately feel extreme regret because I don't have the money to replace my only controller and I would like to continue playing despite the unfortunate turn of events.
I have a tendency to throw things when I get angry and I get very competitive especially with Mario Kart. I went through a total of 6 or 7 ps2 controllers of varying brands back in the day. Every time I'm playing Mario Kart 8 and I feel like throwing my controller, I look down and see this giant fucking tablet controller that will cost me >$100 and all I can do is calmly set it down... Then I punch a hole in my wall.

But Daisy actually has the highest top speed out of any of the medium sized characters, while all Toad has going for him is acceleration (which is useless in a game where you can boost to near top speed from a stop).

Former mario kart expert here. It's was very easy to cheese everyone on this map. Hang back at the start and wait for everyone to pass you. Grab an item box right after and you will get either a bullet or mega shroom. There is a shortcut you can take near the end of the lap that will shave like 5 seconds off your lap time. At this point you will often find yourself in first place while still holding a powerful item :P

Kinda the player's fault for doing a wheelie on the rail-less bridge, which is dangerous since Daisy is a light character, making her extremely easy to knock about.
As someone that played Mario Kart Wii competitively, and for well over 1000 hours, situations like these have actually happened to me a few times online. It is so frustrating. I am not one that rages often, but I have seen it happen to others and people get so pissed over it. It's pretty funny.
I'm surprised that the person managed to rematch this rage inducing moment in their life. For most people, that would have caused an emotional breakdown. XD

Wii was a reaction to DS. The DS metagame created a bunch of new tech, most notably snaking. With Wii, knowing that people would be using motion controllers and players would generally be more casual, Nintendo made the game a lot less technical. The game was very slidy and item/character balance was a mess. Go replay Mario Kart Wii and switch to Mario Kart 8. You'll notice the difference.

Items in general devolve to RNG. I still think Nintendo should make an option for items off. But look at Mario Kart DS, where there was an actual "luck" meter. Plus in past MK's you could hold items. I remember in Double Dash you could have 6 red shells.

I think feel wise, 64 and SNES felt a bit tighter. weren't so loose. To accomodate motion controls which weren't 100% accurate, the game had to be more forgiving.

I really don't understand GIFs. They just seem lower quality than videos, and take waaay longer to load, and you can't pause them or skip to a specific place. Also harder to make, you have to convert the video into a GIF don't you?

It loads pretty instantaneously on my three year old phone. It's faster than loading a youtube video, and much much faster and less resource intensive than an animated gif. It is as low or high quality as the creator wants, but I think it's a great way to make a clean quick clip of something.

I have a tendency to throw things when I get angry and I get very competitive especially with Mario Kart. I went through a total of 6 or 7 ps2 controllers of varying brands back in the day. Every time I'm playing Mario Kart 8 and I feel like throwing my controller, I look down and see this giant fucking tablet controller that will cost me >$100 and all I can do is calmly set it down... Then I punch a hole in my wall.

Former mario kart expert here. It's was very easy to cheese everyone on this map. Hang back at the start and wait for everyone to pass you. Grab an item box right after and you will get either a bullet or mega shroom. There is a shortcut you can take near the end of the lap that will shave like 5 seconds off your lap time. At this point you will often find yourself in first place while still holding a powerful item :P

With Wii, knowing that people would be using motion controllers and players would generally be more casual, Nintendo made the game a lot less technical. The game was very slidy and item/character balance was a mess. Go replay Mario Kart Wii and switch to Mario Kart 8. You'll notice the difference.

Items in general devolve to RNG. I still think Nintendo should make an option for items off. But look at Mario Kart DS, where there was an actual "luck" meter. Plus in past MK's you could hold items. I remember in Double Dash you could have 6 red shells.

Yeah, that's why Wii had significantly better item balance than 8. Because you could hold items and get another one.

I think feel wise, 64 and SNES felt a bit tighter. weren't so loose. To accomodate motion controls which weren't 100% accurate, the game had to be more forgiving.

Hmm, just went to replay DS and yeah it's definitely better than Wii. Not sure what I was thinking before. I still think 8 > DS tho, but it's just my opinion.

I really don't understand GIFs. They just seem lower quality than videos, and take waaay longer to load, and you can't pause them or skip to a specific place. Also harder to make, you have to convert the video into a GIF don't you?

It's not a gif. It's an mp4 video without sound with a container format that has it loop. The 'gif' is just a symbolic nod to those terribly large and slow loading animated gifs of the past.

It loads pretty instantaneously on my three year old phone. It's faster than loading a youtube video, and much much faster and less resource intensive than an animated gif. It is as low or high quality as the creator wants, but I think it's a great way to make a clean quick clip of something.

i cant afford fast internet. But i can stream 480p on youtube easily, this takes ages to load though, and seems much lower quality than 480p.
