TheMSensation ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 02:52:36 on October 16, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
They don't work anyway. Websites like Netflix have features in place to run your card without actually taking any money. I've tried it a few times on multiple websites offering free trials and haven't had any success at all.

Weird, I used it to make Apple ID last month. It worked fine.
TheMSensation ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 03:40:59 on October 16, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
You don't need a card to make Apple ID though do you? If you just click one of the free apps it will then redirect you to a page where you can create an ID without a card.
I just did this
Searched for angry birds
clicked "get"
it asked me to login
clicked create new ID
filled in a bunch of junk on the first page and clicked continue
got the page you see above next
click "none"
It will ask you to fill out the billing address only, you can put whatever you want in there.
click "create Apple ID" on the bottom right
it will ask you to verify your email.
And now you have a working Apple ID
siez_ ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:46:06 on October 16, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Thanks bro, but it doesn't work in India. I don't have a screenshot right now, but whenever I tried to make an ID from the same method it never gave me the option to select "NONE". I ended up on the page with the billing information and it never moved a step ahead without correct info.

etemplin ยท 28 points ยท Posted at 12:22:18 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
I'm not entirely sure what they mean by "bypass". If it means "get around the password" then no. If it means "bypass content restrictions" then still probably not
[deleted] ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 17:14:59 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
It means a metered WiFi connection won't bill you for the data you use.
etemplin ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 02:30:19 on October 16, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
It doesn't care what type of data you use though? Wouldn't the router still know it's sending packets to the device?
[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 07:24:30 on October 16, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
I think it would work if the router whitelisted JPG files for some reason, but there probably won't be many airport WiFis that have it whitelisted.
[deleted] ยท 12 points ยท Posted at 12:39:47 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Not as much as it used to. Also not limited to airports but basically any Wifi provider that doesn't know how to configure it properly.
luminousfleshgiant ยท 15 points ยท Posted at 12:19:24 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
It will work if they've whitelisted .jpg downloads from any source.. Really not sure why they would do that, though..
calsosta ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 14:09:11 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Right and even if they did, if the page requires any additional resources, uses AJAX or forms, it's gonna fail.
iamofnohelp ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 04:41:29 on October 16, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
I believe this is based on the assumption that the login page will have JPG on it.
So they allow that extension so you can authenticate, thinking they blocked you on HTML extensions until you logged in.
luminousfleshgiant ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 04:55:20 on October 16, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Even if it does, it wouldn't make sense to allow .jpgs from anywhere other than their own server.

Okay, now I know this might be a long shot, but I'm a complete noob when it comes to coding so I was wondering if you could help me out as it seems you've got at least 500 times more experience than I do.
Currently my home page for firefox is set to
which I think looks gorgeous. My request is to have it act as a search engine box like Google or DuckDuckGo, as I think it would feel way cooler than just a notepad. Thanks :3
---Edit I---
Alright so after an hour of trial and error I made an html file which I have linked as my new window page. It uses DuckDuckGo as it was the first one I found that would be easy to configure and you can change the sites themes pretty easily too.
If anyone wants the code, it's here (don't know how many of you will see it though):
---Edit II---
Upon further inspection it seems to work best on Firefox (tested in Firefox, Chrome, IE, Edge)

somekindarobit ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 18:08:21 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Awful drivers from nvidia and others is why Vista got a bad rep. Manufacturers were behind and so their drivers crashed a lot. Vista itself was pretty good if you were running with enough RAM, which again, a lot of people weren't.

Yeah I had people telling me how bad it was, and then looking at my screen and saying they didn't much care for 7 either. (I was running vista). Then when 8 came out everyone hated it and I was like this is cool. Now I have 10 and everyone is all "but it's spying on you" I just don't get why every time anything new is released nowadays, there has to be 30 news stories about some type of antennagate thing that's bad.

Corrupt-a-file is a bad idea from a teacher's perspective. Knowingly submitting a corrupted file to buy time is a form of academic dishonesty, and at my university that could earn you an F in the course (or worse, depending on how many other violations the student has on his/her record).
Here's a better hack: if you need more time, ask your instructor. In my experience, the vast majority of instructors would rather work with you to get you more time or assistance than to see you sabotage your academic standing through dishonesty.
SilverLion ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 23:37:12 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

But when does it applyโwhen you've typed your password in but not submitted the form, then left your computer unattended? I'm guessing you don't do that often.
DynaBeast ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:17:23 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Don't forget about autofill.
Even just leaving your computer unattended, someone can come up, open up the login page of a common social media site and often the password is already filled in for you, and if not, usually as soon as you begin typing a username. This trick makes it trivial to extract that password.

Yeah, that's what I did. It turns out that clicking links like this works for me, but typing them in manually in the URL doesn't.
I open up a video, replace "watch?v=" with "/v/", and hit enter. Page is blank. I paste that very same URL so that it's clickable and directs me to the URL. Page loads the video.
Ninja Edit: Nice link - would click again. 10/10

I really wanted to try out #40:
Set โ@@โ as the keyboard shortcut for your email address. Now you donโt have to type your email again and again.
But for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out how the hell to do this. Win 7 user here. Anybody help me out? BTW, I tried using AutoHotkey, but it's pretty intimidating. Testing, I could replace a remap a single key (like making it type a K when I hit the L key for example) but it bombed out when I tried to use @@ as an input string.
Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. I was following the instructions for hotkeys when I should have been reading the instructions for "Hotstrings & autoreplace". If anyone else wants me to help 'em out with AutoHotkey, let me know.

NickDangerrr ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 17:20:43 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
A couple things. Firstly, it's a gigantic memory hog. Secondly sometimes entire websites won't work at all due to ABP. Lastly, uBlock Origin was created by the original creators of Adblock
jimworksatwork ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 15:54:51 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Adblock plus and adblock are not the same. One is pure malware, the other is an ad compromised adblocker.
RickShaw530 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 18:05:00 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
So, only certain ads that sponsor them get through. Why would you want that instead of uBlock?
jimworksatwork ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 18:11:18 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
You may or you may not, that's your choice. However the distinction between adblock and adblock plus is a valid one, considering one is actually very bad to have installed.
taosk8r ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:40:56 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)*

You got a reputable source on that? I cant seem to google up one.. This says the opposite, but its a crowdsource thing..
http://security.stackexchange.com/questions/52361/is-adblock-plus-a-security-risk
Honestly, I consider adblockers in general as a crucial component in addition to realtime antimalware for preventing the extremely common drive-by malware infections alongside a top ranked antivirus. In my experience they work so well that I have only detected any malware on occasions so rare that I can't even remember any, in over a decade of modern computing experience, and rarely even venturing to the more risk prone sites.

FatalDosesOfOsmosis ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 18:27:31 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)*
Adblock plus allows advertisers to pay them to not block their ads.
Plus ublock origin uses less system resources.
I'm pretty sure there another reason, but that's all that comes to mind at the moment.
Edit: The other thing is that they will sell your data.
taosk8r ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:53:52 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)*
There is no alternative for IE, right? I use it extremely rarely as a backup, and would like it to be more secure from malware. Man... It doesn't even give you the option to turn off acceptable ads in the IE version (unless I'm missing something?).. :(

you get the mentioned method to search for direct links. you can select a shortcut (e.g. dl) and then you would get the mentioned search by entering in the address bar:

Tip 1 doesn't save the text at all. FYI, don't put a bunch of stuff in it and assume it will save.

I call bullshit on the battery one.
JihadDerp ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 16:55:17 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
I'm one of those crazies that puts batteries in machines. If the machine works, I assume the battery works. But I guess if I was smart about it, I'd try to bounce it first.
jeroplane ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 12:04:08 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
It's a well-known fact that works, test it out!
hare_in_a_suit ยท 9 points ยท Posted at 12:47:04 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
No, he's actually right. Batteries with 50% charge remaining will bounce just as much as dead ones.

It may worked few years ago, most new phones don't have removable batteries.

I know, right? I dropped my iPhone with a full battery and it bounced pretty high.

Murican_Freedom1776 ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 12:23:07 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
A battery that is rated AA on the bouncy scale.

I use the chrome notepad trick all the time at the office when I need to take a message for someone. I just click on the toolbar shortcut, type whatever I need, and then print it and drop it on whoever's desk. No more fumbling around for a pen and a pad.
EDIT: thanks everyone, but nothing is easier than just hitting a button in an application I'm already using and being able to type out a note instantly without taking all the extra steps to run another application.
fmoly ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:40:30 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Does your office not have email?
[deleted] ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 14:19:43 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Windows: Windows Key + R, type notepad, hit enter.
OSX: Command + Space, type textedit, hit enter.
Linux varies by distro.
hate_min_max ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 15:09:03 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
You know it's faster if you just bookmark it. You just click on it and it's notepad. I keep seeing your alternative but can't see why I would go through the hassle to type it out.
[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:19:54 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Some people are faster at using keyboard shortcuts than removing hand from keyboard, finding mouse, move mouse, click button. I almost never use my mouse.
rarely-sarcastic ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 15:29:15 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Plus if you use it often then once you press Windows Key + R notepad will already be written for you so all you need to do is press enter.
Plus it looks way cooler than clicking on shit.
JihadDerp ยท -1 points ยท Posted at 16:59:42 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Or, you know, open the preinstalled program on your computer called "notepad" with one easy click.

Am I the only one who's fucking shocked someone can find your password from facebook in literally 2seconds??? I very often use the same password for everything and use it for many years, and I delivered in my comp to repair so many times. Holy fuck. Noone in comments even seem shocked about that wtf
rarely-sarcastic ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 15:31:47 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Ok the password one is super important to know about. Most people use the same password for everything. Ask if you can log them out of facebook for a second, find out their password and you can probably log into their email too.
JihadDerp ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 16:56:56 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Watch their fingers as they type "password123" on the keyboard and don't be an idiot.

Need to get an A on a test? Memorize all the information. It's stored inside your brain and nobody can tell that you're cheating.
bettorworse ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 16:55:26 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
But then, what if you have to cut and paste into Reddit later? That just creates a mess, all that paste on your screen.
[deleted] ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 15:44:28 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
Oh come on, even my dumb ass knows that just opening notepad from the run command or even just clicking the start button and typing "notepad" + enter is way easier than this...
JihadDerp ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 16:58:24 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
But the browser is already open! You can't move your whole hand a few inches down/left and press your index finger hard enough to click a few times to open A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PROGRAM ON THE SAME SCREEN. That's ridiculous!
bettorworse ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 16:54:44 on October 15, 2015 ยท (Permalink)
I think the point was to save it to your bookmarks bar.

Why the fuck would you want to unmask passwords? Just open up the password manager if you need to see what the password is so urgently.
