No, confirmation bias would be if I went into Reddit expecting/believing that the mods are overly dramatic, then picking only the cases in which they are. I mean yes thereโs a case to be made that subscribing to cringe/drama subs increases my exposure to examples of mods being bitchy because those subs tend to document that. But you canโt tell me that the average group of people has as much petty bullshit as Reddit mods (find yourself a new group of friends if this is the case for you).
Whyโs everyone so salty about this? Yes it may be only correlational that there seems to be more petty drama, but if yโall expect me to whip out a peer reviewed double blind study just to make the assertion that the mods of many subreddits are friendless losers with superiority complexes?
Ok hereโs my best attempt at a hypothesis. The likelihood of getting a position of power in an online community is directly proportional to the amount of time and effort one spends on that community, which is inversely proportional to time one spends socializing in real life. Those who socialize less irl have consistently proven to have lower empathy and emotional intelligence, which are things that correlate with positive social interactions and with real life success. Good so far right? Therefore one can predict (without generalizing or saying that every Reddit mod is like this, because most of them are good people) that itโs more likely for Reddit mods vs the general population to have the following traits: low empathy, low real life success, less social interaction, less positivity in interactions with people. So while not confirmed as fact, a prediction that Reddit mods are gonna have more petty drama than a sample of average people is backed up by sound reasoning. Now I guess you could study it but ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ letโs leave that to the sociology majors.
Yes, it's very wrong to make fun of those ugly, pathetic, socially inept, creepy, disturbing, waste of human space, stupid, contrarian, sad people. We shouldn't make fun of how horrible they smell and how poorly they care for themselves, or their complete inability to even act like they actually have any interest in improving themselves. It would be mean to continuously bring up how much better the world would be without people like them in it, so don't do it repeatedly.
This is what I refer to as a "joke". You know, sorta like getting a bunch of upvotes then editing your comment. Wait, no, that was just genuine shitty, misleading behavior, so you have no right to get on some high horse with your imagined superiority

I agree. Being likable is indeed a very important part of a healthy life. It's rewarding, can bring benefit and is overall very satisfying and pleasant.
However, especially when you're young and don't really give certain things enough importance, you will sometimes have an order of priority that is not necesseraly the best for your "future". I.e, going out/gaming etc. way more than you should.
It's of course surely not a certainty : you can absolutely be unpopular and suck at school (NEETs) or be very popular and have good results. It's more a question of how you'll organize your time than what you do. We've seen enough guys wasting their lives/potential by ranting instead of improving themselves on r/justneckbeardthings

It's not necessarily "synonymous with incels", however, in the case of this post it would appear so.
I called someone Chad (the way I call people Chad) like a year ago on a totally different part of reddit and they called me an incel. I had no idea what they meant, and didn't care to look into it. Only recently found out what reddits idea of a Chad was.
Eventually, the trail drops to pretty but stagnant Virgin Lake. There is no inlet or outlet, so the water is entirely snowmelt and rainwater, and by late fall the water is more like a bog.

No, confirmation bias would be if I went into Reddit expecting/believing that the mods are overly dramatic, then picking only the cases in which they are. I mean yes thereโs a case to be made that subscribing to cringe/drama subs increases my exposure to examples of mods being bitchy because those subs tend to document that. But you canโt tell me that the average group of people has as much petty bullshit as Reddit mods (find yourself a new group of friends if this is the case for you).
Whyโs everyone so salty about this? Yes it may be only correlational that there seems to be more petty drama, but if yโall expect me to whip out a peer reviewed double blind study just to make the assertion that the mods of many subreddits are friendless losers with superiority complexes?
Ok hereโs my best attempt at a hypothesis. The likelihood of getting a position of power in an online community is directly proportional to the amount of time and effort one spends on that community, which is inversely proportional to time one spends socializing in real life. Those who socialize less irl have consistently proven to have lower empathy and emotional intelligence, which are things that correlate with positive social interactions and with real life success. Good so far right? Therefore one can predict (without generalizing or saying that every Reddit mod is like this, because most of them are good people) that itโs more likely for Reddit mods vs the general population to have the following traits: low empathy, low real life success, less social interaction, less positivity in interactions with people. So while not confirmed as fact, a prediction that Reddit mods are gonna have more petty drama than a sample of average people is backed up by sound reasoning. Now I guess you could study it but ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ letโs leave that to the sociology majors.

I agree. Being likable is indeed a very important part of a healthy life. It's rewarding, can bring benefit and is overall very satisfying and pleasant.
However, especially when you're young and don't really give certain things enough importance, you will sometimes have an order of priority that is not necesseraly the best for your "future". I.e, going out/gaming etc. way more than you should.
It's of course surely not a certainty : you can absolutely be unpopular and suck at school (NEETs) or be very popular and have good results. It's more a question of how you'll organize your time than what you do. We've seen enough guys wasting their lives/potential by ranting instead of improving themselves on r/justneckbeardthings

It's a play on memes inspired by incel lingo. Incels commonly complain that they (virgins) are lonely, undesirable, and inferior while "chads" (popular men who they depict as manipulative douchebags) are beloved and get all the girls. So this is just a funny coincidence with that terminology.
