not really. its a method of inconveniencing paying customers in the hope that you'll stifle piracy, yet it usually results in the opposite. it doesnt 'ensure' anything as pirated versions take slightly longer to be released, but still come out

so your paying customers have to always connect to the internet to play, get kicked from the game and lose all progress if there's any internet or server issues, and if the servers are down nobody can play. meanwhile pirated versions run without all that BS

I'm always shocked by the mental gymnastics pirates perform to justify their actions. I really don't care if you steal a game or not, because it doesn't really affect me, but at least be intellectually honest about what you are doing.

It doesn't actually do anything to 'prevent unauthorised redistribution' in most instances, though. People pirate regardless of attempts to make it difficult to do so. DRM usually only works to make things slightly to moderately more irritating for legitimate consumers, compared to pirates who simply bypass it. DRM is strictly anti-consumer.

Nah it's still a posteriori because it isn't inherently true by logic alone. A good example of a priori is "2+2=4" or "I think therefore I am". It's true in isolation in any context. "It's raining outside" relies upon evidential context to be true or false.

Edit: just to add some info in case anyone is curious. A priori is especially important in epistemology (the study of how we know what we know) since the field is littered with skeptics who will pick apart a posteriori knowledge. They will claim you can never know it's raining outside since you're perception of the world could just be an illusion or you're dreaming or (as Descartes would say) an evil demon is deceiving you. It's an absurd claim, but it's impossible to disprove. A priori knowledge sets a sort of foundation which the skeptic can't touch. Cognito Ergo Sum (i think therefore I am) cannot be touched by skeptics and is fundamental knowledge.

The only reason you could know that the noise you hear from the rain is in fact rain is to have some prior experience of the rain so it wouldn't be a priori, it would be a postereriori. Immanuel Kant divided a priori concepts by synthetic and pure. There are only two things that are pure a priori-space and time. Most mathematical truths are synthetic a priori, so like the sums of the angles in a triangle will always be 180 degrees.

In engineering/science, we just use it to mean "prior knowledge." But how many of the people that pirated the game would have actually bought it? To assume that pirates represent a decreased number of purchases is inane imo.

Also it's not like they're teaching the pirates a lesson, they can easily just download a proper cracked version. Or stop playing because they haven't lost anything by not purchasing the game.

I can respect the company for doing this as an overextended demo but I cannot take seriously a person who argues that these kind of pirate-exclusive "features" deter piracy or are a good "payback" for having pirated the game.

And my point is, even if it's done as a "joke," putting that much effort into literally every post is iamverysmart-worthy material.

I think the sentiment behind that statement is that by having DRM, they (the game developers) are assuming everyone including paid users are pirating the game i.e. guilty until proven innocent.

If you have a PS3 or 4 you should play Journey. It's by the same creator and really similar but even better in my opinion.

I agree, I think DRM is a waste of time and money and it often punishes people for buying the game rather than pirating it. I just meant usually DRM is apparent when you launch the game ("Connecting to server...", etc) but with ABZU I didn't notice anything whatsoever that indicated it had DRM.
