Essentially what /u/WW_D put with Valve having to make some really silly changes because of Dota2's roots to WarCraft 3 in which the most notable one was Skeleton King being removed with the patch notes say 'For pressing ceremonial reasons' with people complaining on how the hell does Blizzard own a 'Skeleton King'.
Similar thing actually just happen with PitLord as there is a character in WarCraft named PitLord and despite the hero in Dota2 not looking like it they still felt forced to change the name to Underlord in the newest update to avoid Blizzard Lawyers.

Not sure if joking but the core issue is more that Blizzard doesn't really have a strong 'case' but they don't really have much to loose from testing it and they can prevent getting counter suite as the case does have some ground on it DID clearly start from their own IP.

The issue is they can bring up the roots of the game in court and that they didn't change X and are making money now on X, which will be enough to go to a trail.
Blizzard (now part of activision) has a full on legal team while Valve has essentially a few people. The process of going to court will derail Valve MUCH more than it would Blizzard and thus Valve is going to cave as it is going to cost them much more than it will cost Blizzard and Blizzard execs gain the competitive edge of derailing a competitor.
This practice is actually really common in corporate law and has actually got so bad that there are full on companies that are just legal teams to bully other companies into just paying out settlement fees. They are known as copyright trolls and some of them like Soverain Software make MASSIVE amounts hitting companies with silly lawsuits.

So a derivative work? I could understand taking a character from the game, including it's likeness causing an issue, but with the sole similarity being only in name...that's a tough leg to stand on. I wouldn't consider Valve to be a small company by any means...maybe not Blizz/Activision scale, but they could hold their own. I guess in the end I don't even really care, but being that I work in copyright, copyright trolls make me sick.

Valve simply didn't want to bother with 'wasting' the few employees they had with something they could jump around in an afternoon. It sucks but makes a finical sense to not even bother and just 'fix' as filling out the paper work and thinking of a response would take more time than changing the name in the file for many of the cases.
Valve is set up to make insane amount of money per employee and IIRC is one of the top companies for doing so. Heck the core teams for many of the games are only a handful of people.

I've totally converted back into wild now. It's just a total return to roots and it allows me to play some of the decks/classes I've really been missing.
15-20 is a total shit show, it's absolute anarchy.
10-14 is a bit more organized but you still have just as much chance of running into a dragon rogue as you do a secret pally.
5-9 has a pretty defined meta but still the odd curveball every third game or so.
1-5 is exactly like you'd expect: secret pally, n'zoth priest, midrange hunters, renolocks, control warriors, freeze mage, etc.
But god damn is it so much more diverse and interesting than standard (in my opinion, there's probably a lot of people who would refute that).

You'll probably still see Shredder in any midrangey N'Zoth deck like Hunter or Paladin unless they're given much better 4 drop options with deathrattles (which won't happen until N'Zoth is no longer standard-legal probably). I agree though, it won't be everywhere because classes will get options that just fit their needs.

It increases your chances of dodging Doomsayer, which loses you the game on the spot if he drops.
So to me it is a buff, as you decrease the variance of the drops while also strongly reducing the expectancy of the worse case.

Yeah, but just because you throw a pile of shit into a fire doesn't put it out. It just turns it into a flaming pile of shit.
What I'm saying is you can stuff a bunch of good 2-drops into it and hope they drop. But those goods will only be eventually outweighed by the flaming shit that will be the poor ratios in which a bad or downgraded two-drop is dropped. If it dropped you a flame (like Doomsayer, something inevitably more annoying eventually), a vanilla 1/1, etc.; how much is that truly worth relative to something like Polluted Hoarder simply drawing you a card. It's the same power on curve at 4; the health of Shredder has lost value since the release and rise of all of these 3/5s.

I think saying that Shredder will turn into a flaming pile of shit is definitely a stretch. It is still a 4 mana 4/3 that guarantees you another drop that on average has 2 attack and 2 health or so. It will never be bad.

Because I have spent a few hundred euros on Hearthstone already, even though I sometimes go through months of not playing the game.
The wild/standard split gave me a free ticket into the Old Gods cards I wanted (because of the dust) and seemed nice because even if I stay away long enough, when I come back I might be a single expansion behind rather than two expansions and an adventure.
Wild just seemed like it would be the bigger money sink over time, and tbh it probably is, at least for me.

I've made legend once and that's enough for me. I just play the decks I enjoy playing and only sporadically, which means that around rank 9 or so is usually as high as I get these days. Token druid (though admittedly that one is super strong right now), Malygod rogue, classic control warrior, anti-aggro/control/steal priest (RIP), freeze/grinder mage and any kind of cheesy shaman deck.

Just play? If you play consistently, keep up on your quests and play long enough, there's no reason you can't do have all the cards you need without dusting everything every time things rotate out. I've only been playing about 6/7 months and I'm only missing about 4 top tier legendaries, without dropping 100 bucks on packs.

Dude I've been playing for about a year now... the problem is I spent time getting Naxxrammas, and Dr.Boom, but now that everyone's in standard then dont even matter, that gold could have been for standard cards, meanwhile there are some guys that have been playing for a couple months and probably have three times the legendaries I have simply because they spent a shit ton of cash on packs.
Game is not pay2win but that exactly what makes it frustrating, you know you can get there but you will take ages and meanwhile have to fight everyone that used money to get everything he wanted. If it simply was P2W nobody would play it obviously.

Well I guess I've been playing longer than I though - I started the month before the ranked chests came out... time flies. That came out in August I think of last year. Still, minus a few arenas when I was bored (less than 10 total), I've never felt the need to "drop 100 bucks", and I have almost all the important legendarys. The only top legendaries I'm missing are harrison & ragnaros.. and I don't even see harrison that much anymore.
You don't have to believe me, and you probably won't, that's fine. It just irks me when someone acts like you have to drop 100's of dollars to have a decent collection, when you don't.. because I do & I didn't.
But I have no way of proving it, and it's probably unreasonable for me to expect people to gold cap every day for weeks like I did for a while...

But what's the point on having the top tier legendaries? Some decks don't even use them and we all know they're not actually necessary to climb, because most of those top tier legendaries are just kinda powercreeps, just in the deck to represent a bigger threat than any other minion with the same stats would. Meanwhile you could actually be crafting decks but you're focusing on just having OP legendaries and I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about cards that have become core in certain decks, like N'zoth obviously, that card created a new type of decks and that type of decks is more heavily reliant on having expensive cards in general, and by that I mean tons of rares and epics too.

Because Rares and epics are much easier to get than legendaries. And nzoth.. I don't think there is a single epic deathrattle minion. I only use 2 epic cards in my nzoth priest, and I think nzoth paladins only run 2-3, hardly "tons". And as fkr the rares... after playing for a year he should have most of them, and be able to craft the couple that he might be missing. Paladins use Doomsayer and lay on hands... but uses around 7 legendaries.
So yea I think the legendaries are more relevant. After a year of opening packs you should have most of the rares you need, and the decks don't use "tons of" epics.

I'm not talking solely about Nzoth paladin and that's what you based your whole comment around so it's kinda flawed, I do lie the point you brought up about epics and rares being easier to get in packs than legendaries, and I have actually crafted rares and epics before and you just made me feel stupid for it, congratulations. Well if you don't have money, you can spam arena games and get the packs, gold, dust you need. That's what every f2p player does including me. I purchased every adventure with gold and I don't even play that much. Max 4-5 hours in a week.
Get good in Arena and you don't have to dust cards again unless they're extra.

I find ranked and casual boring and repetitive. Arena is challenging and more fun to me. It really shows player skill and decision making imo.

I think Arena is based too much on luck and the intensely tempo oriented meta bores me. Card choices are about filling out your curve first and synergy second and the in-game decision comes down to simply trading up and playing a bigger dude each turn.
But hey this is all opinion, anyway ;)

This is actually my problem, I suck in arena, I average like 3 wins.
I've even drafted some pretty good decks but it just looks like all the odds area always against me when I play arena, I once got a deck with 3 4 mana 7/7's played them all in turns 5>6>7 and the opponent had the perfect answer for each one of them. I don't even know if I'm just bad or just stupidly unlucky in arena.

Try using a deck tracker so you will always know what cards you have and you can make risky plays more confidently. Also check out Kripp's stream. He knows a lot about tempo and card quality. Watching him improved my gameplay immensely.

I'm doing the same (recrafting) but that was my plan from the start. I'm close to having all the annoying-to-get rarity level cards I want and need for classic/standard until the next xpac. Once I have that done I'll work on recrafting a bunch of wild cards I had. Because I don't want everything in GVG. I want cards I'll play. So I bought in for competitiveness. It's helped immensely because I understand how more decks work from a first hand perspective. The qualia of playing common decks/archetypes is invaluable and I gladly made the trade.

Out of curiosity, what decks were you playing? I made it to about rank 8 in Wild this season with Control Warrior and some Control Priest and I really can't keep playing there because of how infuriating Secret Paladins, N'zoth Priests and Midrange Hunters are to play against.

I was playing a good amount of control priest and n'zoth priest, a whole bunch of gimmicky shit like Ancestral Call Malygos Shaman and Maly druid, and when I decided to do some actual climbing I switched to Renolock, control warrior and demon zoo.
If you're really looking to climb and hit legend, the N'zoth secret pally is really your best tool.

Well, that's only a pretense. The real reason for standard is to sell more packs and adventures. Before standard if you had Naxxramas, the first wing of Blackrock Mountain, and then two commons and a legendary from Goblins vs Gnomes (Piloted Shredder and Dr. Boom) you had most of what you needed for a poweful deck. Naxx is ridiculously stacked with great cards. So you rotate them out and force people to buy packs to replace the cards they've had for years because printing cards that made Zombie Chow, Piloted Shredder, Sludge Belcher, and Loatheb obsolete would be insane power creep.

What are you using your cards for when you play? As a mid-range deck the key is to identify your role in the matchup. If you're up against an aggro deck you put on your control hat and grind out a win by out valuing your opponent. If you're up against a control deck you put on your aggro hat and try to out tempo your opponent because you know you'll never out value them.

Honestly almost all of those look unappealing to me. I draw, not professionally but in my free time and I have a lot to learn, but I notice things in the links provided by your post and reply under it that "untrained eye" doesn't. (as I said, I'm no professional and I don't want to appear pretentious) Awkward perspective, disproportional limbs, just horrible palette choice, etc.
The Patron one is miles above rest, and is the only one that could be called equal to the OP in quality. YMMV when it comes to the art style, ofc.

Man holding the lion is Barnes, a new legendary card that just got introduced into the game. Its effect is to bring into play a copy of a random minion from your deck, but making its stats very weak (1 attack and 1 health). Some minions are still really powerful even with a 1/1 status so the card is often game deciding. The animation of the summoning ingame is also very theatrical, with spotlights revealing the chosen minion.
The other lion in the background is Savannah Highmane, a card for the Hunter class. It is a great card by itself, and when it dies it brings into play two additional minions. It's the kind of minion you want to get summoned by Barnes.
The other three animals in the back are animal companions for the Hunter class, from the card Call of the Wild. This card is again really powerful and ran in every hunter deck because it gives you immediate board presence while synergizing well with the rest of hunter cards.
Overall a really polished work, I hope OP makes more of these for other decks !

Nobody thinks he is OP, but he is bad for the game because its random RNG instead of a new mechanic Blizzard made 2 expensions ago. Discover. Discover shows 3 card which you can pick from. This means controlled RNG which Barnes is completely not

that is not true. Barnes has limited outcome based on minions you put into your deck. that makes his RNG controlled (unlike Unstable Portal, which makes up randomness by overall 1 mana discount or unlike Yogg, that wants to reduce randomness by having more spells cast).
It is very much in deckbuilders power how consistent Barnes is. I would say he is like Reno in that regard - more consistent / powerful you make Barnes, less consistent / powerful will have your deck overall (just like running only single copies of cards makes your deck less consistent when running Reno, if you play only "good" Barnes outcomes, more spells you need to play, which may not be what you always want: see Rogue - if you run Barnes, do you take out very good cards like SI:7 Agent and Edwin?).

He doesn't want to imply that he should be discovering a minion, merely that the overall game philosophy was attempted to be pushed more in the direction of less swing-ey card effects - like discover - so that the cards are more consistent and easier to balance. Barnes moves against that trend, while still being decent in a worst-case-scenario.

The fact that it can pull Y'Shaarj into any of those at full strength means it should be straight up banned from competitive play. Druid can literally win the game on turn 1 without any chance of their opponent recovering if they get lucky with their opening and their Barnes pull.

This is amazing work! I will use it as my wallpaper now. I use my laptop almost everywhere and normally feel uncomfortable with gaming wallpapers, but this is just a great mix! It's nice to have a Hearthstone wallpaper that's still easily recognizable for outsiders (who just think it's a Lion King reference) but doesn't scream Hearthstone all over the place, while it's clearly an amazing Hearthstone piece for insiders!

I may not be the best person to give deck advice, but IMO you should reduce the amount of "bad" Barnes results by cutting non-deathrattles like Houndmaster.

I have a similar story, involving a Priest, who get's a 1/1 Ragnaros on turn 4, resurrects a 8/8 on turn 5, and then resurrects another on turn 6. So, one 1/1 Ragnaros on turn 4 turned into two 8/8 Ragnaroses.

Every creature in my N'Zoth Huntard list has Deathrattle except three - N'Zoth (obviously), Barnes, and Princess Huehuehue. 15 creatures in the deck, 2/14 chance of getting a non-rattler, and I seem to get Princess 40-50% of the time when Barnes comes down. I did get Highmane once - and it was a glorious blowout, and also one of the few games where I got to actually cast N'Zoth (and found out the revived baby Highmane is all grown up).
