And unless you live in a border region you wouldn't be able to use the pesos anyway... So either way the currency is essentially useless to you and you would probably lose out on the exchange rate anyway when you try to convert it back into us dollars.

also certain AMC theateres near me (in NJ) have a thing where they have giant leather recliners and you can order drinks (alcoholic or not) and a full on meal. A waiter will come by your seat mid-movie and deliver it to you. Its expensive, but boy is it a luxury experience

We have in the same in Scottsdale, AZ. Honestly, if more theaters offered this kind of service along with showings specifically barring children I believe more people would be going out for movies as opposed to staying in. The movies should be an experience, not a hassle.
Here they just have a separate section for the VIP booths where they serve alcohol. The regular seats are below so you can still hear loud ass obnoxious children.
On that note, you know who I respect even more than people with quiet kids in theaters? People with loud kids who take them to the lobby as a courtesy to the other patrons. Poor bastards paid to see a movie and their spawn are fucking it up for everybody so they GTFO to do a bunch of strangers a solid. I appreciate that.
Flix Brew House where I live. Full sized theater, craft beer, full food menu and their food is actually really good. Big leather seats with fold-down trays in front of you. During the movie you just write what you want on a little piece of paper, set it on the counter, and push a little button and one of the wait staff sneaks by and grabs it and runs off.

you are way overreacting here, man. It's becoming increasingly commonplace - especially since theaters have been losing revenue to Netflix & stuff, theaters needed to step up their game with better seats, better concessions, etc.
Some theaters are hybrid restaurants. In Asheville, NC there is a place called Asheville Pizza and Brewering Company that has couches and tables instead of regular seats, and there is a kitchen where they make pizza, wings, and stuff like that.
my local movie/stage theatre does hot meals... they have a full bar too that serves alcohol.

That is a hideous website. Websites like that make me think the institution is a dilapidated crackhouse with comic sans "out of service" signs strewn everywhere.
See, that's a nice website. With the exception of the minor use of comic sans. Also, wow, the inside of that theater is beautiful. From the outside I wouldn't think much of the place but the interior is really pretty.
I like it. It's a bit ugly (could stand better choices of colours and background) but it loads very fast and gives you relevant information immediately. Easy to navigate.
In the modern day though, even if you can navigate swiftly, there should be some style. The background ends up being distracting and small bolded text doesn't help. Also, random gifs on backgrounds is unacceptable.
For example, I can navigate the 1996 Space Jam website easily, but it looks outdated as fuck.

A few theaters near me have these nice reclining leather seats/couches that you reserve and there's only like 6-8 per row. Definitely doable in that case.

I fully agree. My brother has completely tolerated his self seving wifes behavior to the point of near bankruptcy. Tolerating some things impacts society as a whole. He needs to pull on the reigns for christs sake.

The problem is that if he went to a theater where you reserve seats ahead of time everybody else would have had assigned seats, too. So nobody would have just been trying to sit in his row.
I went to go see Wonder Woman opening weekend as well. My group had three reserved seats, but two of them were taken. We mention it to the people in our seats and they tell us their reserved seats were taken so they decided to sit there instead of making a fuss. We decide to just sit back one row because the seats are better anyways. This old dude comes in and says that we're in his seats. He shows us his ticket and everything. We explain that assigned seats are meaningless in a cruel and uncaring world. He goes to get a staff person. The staff asks us to move, so we go stand next to our assigned seats. This starts an avalanche with about 25 people being moved. Staff person has to check every ticket in the theatre. Makes 10 more people move. Old guy is still smiling. One of the last people to be moved is a mother with two toddlers and a baby. They had assigned seats on either side of him. Now he stops smiling.
I wish I could find a theater that doesn't have this system. In a way I feel like this has gotta be bad for movie theaters because back in the day I could decide to see a movie on a whim if I happened to be at the mall already and the showtime wasn't for 30 minutes. Now whenever I get a bright idea like that there's only terrible seats available and I end up doing something else.
There is of course the opposite situation: I want to know I have decent seats reserved before going to the theatre.

We also have seat reservations online, but when you come, there are either people sitting there, or maybe your reserved seats weren't the best, and you see better ones that are still empty. If people come and claim them, so be it. You will claim yours. Otherwise, you have better seats than you reserved.

Otherwise if you were one of the people without an assigned seat, you would have no idea where you could or could not sit and would have to move every single time someone came in and kicked you out of their seat. This is how most movie theaters work in the midwest. You can reserve a seat, and if somebody happens to be sitting in your seat when you arrive, you can show them your ticket, and they will usually just get up and move. If push comes to shove, you can get a manager. Most people don't care enough to reserve a seat, let alone argue about it.

Ok you're really upset about this so I'll explain. AMC theaters have a reserved seating policy, but rarely is it enforced by the theater staff unless the theater is completely full. Therefore it's usually up the movie-goers to settle any assigned-seat related dispute amongst themselves. Also often times seats that show up as unavailable in the selection process end up being available. The last 4-5 times I've been to the movies I sat somewhere other than my assigned seat with no problem.

Here, the best theater around does do partial reserved seating. For the D-BOX seats, the section in front of the walkway...there are two-four rows of D-BOX seats, all reservable. None of the other seats in the theater are. I have had more than one time where someone was sitting in my reserved D-BOX seats, but it's always been people that think the seats will work if someone didn't reserve them so they try to get the seat for free. Never had a problem kicking them out though.

At those theaters, when you buy the ticket you get to pick your seat. If you do not pick a seat, you get assigned an empty one. That's still a reserved seat. There's still a seat number on your ticket. It's not "partially reserved". If you, after buying your random ticket, never go see the movie then that seat will be empty because it was reserved for you at your time of purchase.

It's a thing. Most theaters will probably accommodate you if you prepurchase a large number of tickets in advance. They just rope off an area for your party. Especially something like Zootopia, the theater probably assumed it was for a child's birthday party or something. What, you buy 20 seats in advance and are expected to not sit together?
How would that even work? You don't reserve a seat, sit down with your family of 4, and then 2min before the film starts, someone walks in and tells you that they actually reserved that seat. But at this point, there's no where else you can get 4 seats all together, so you just go and sit in the corner by yourself and to no fault of your own.
But that's the whole point. A group of four that wants to sit next to each other can reserve four seats together at a higher price, or risk not sitting as a group by buying standard priced tickets at the counter and keeping their fingers crossed. Meanwhile, a couple doesn't need to worry about reserving seats unless they want to be guaranteed the best seats in the house because two open seats aren't usually that hard to find. Movie theaters learned how to capitalize on the two most important things when going to see a movie: getting seats together, and getting good seats. You can guarantee both of those by paying more, or try your luck and hope it all works out [at the risk of getting booted from your seats by someone who paid more than you].

Exactly, the RPX theaters force you to reserve seats when you buy online or when you buy at the ticket booth - they turn the screen around and you pick your seats. But more importantly, he said it cost $150 - RPX theaters are waaay more expensive. $150 might get you 8 seats. To reserve a whole row (which is probably like 20 seats) I would bet it would be close to $800.
Have you ever been to an RPX theater? Typically they are always showing 3D as well. It's $32 for a ticket here. Batshit crazy. If you can find one without the bullshit 3D upcharge it's only like $18 cause it's a "premium experience." I made the assumption it was 3D because you'll be hard pressed to find an RPX showing that isn't 3D, but I could be wrong.
Granted, this is where I live so smaller cities might get away with it cheaper.
Edit: just checked my local theater which only has Transformers in 3D, for 10 tickets it's $144. I was close with 8 tickets, but still wrong.
I doubt he was talking about 3D, and also there are theaters with different size rows, not all rows are 20 seats long. There are plenty with around 10, and if each ticket costs $15 ($14 where I live) I could see how it's possible. The story overall does seem unlikely though, I'll give you that.

I understood it as he just bought like 15 tickets and claimed 15 seats. Then just told people they couldn't sit there because they were his seats. The theater is only going to sell as many tickets for a showing as there are seats in the auditorium so each seat would be accounted for. And that's why the lady supposedly got upset.

25 seats per row at our cities theater. 383 seats total, didnt realize how large it was really. If you are going to be frugal about it and go to a matinee, $7.50 per seat, $2,872. Buy 1 full row would be $187. So not too far off realistic. Would cost $6 per seat to add to $150.
If it's possible to buy a whole row (assigned seating) then why is this even a thing? The bitching lady and the people who he allowed to sit in his row bought tickets for specific seats.

I don't believe this is real but I used to work at a movie theater as an auditorium monitor. Many people are rude and stupid and don't understand that they have to sit in the seat they chose for themselves.

I saw the movie, the picture attatched, and 4chan which led me to think that this would end up OP reserving enough seats so he can jerk off without drawing too much attention.
Fake, but the best part is, even if she could rightfully argue discrimination, it's perfectly legal since it's not the business discriminating against her.
Had something similar like this happen to me the other day, went with my family (parents, two brothers 11 And 6) to guardians of the galaxy 2 at a local amc.
So we get there early, get in the back row middle seats, you know the usual first pick type of deal. I chose to sit on the end next to my youngest brother. After about 10 minutes an old man brought his grandchild (I'm presuming. The man was quite old and the child was about 8 or 9) anyways cut to him deciding to sit his grandkid next to me, I mean literaly right next to me. Not a seat apart but right next to me. I had my drink on my right side coaster and the little kid put his arm down over my arm. May i mention these two were the first people in after us. Even if they just wanted to sit at our height, there were like 5 seats between me and the stairs.
Tbh though the kid wasnt that bad. He just jumped in his seat alot during the final big battle scene which kinda irritated me but oh well lol.
You can get a tiny cup of popcorn and a tiny cup of soda when you want and a small discount on a couple food items.
Free movies were determined by the studios. Sony movies couldn't be seen for free for several weeks after release. A few other studios had similar weird rules. And the house rule was that you couldn't be on premises if you asked for the day off. So taking the day off for a date wasn't allowed if you planned to go to a movie. The only way to see a free movie was to have it on a naturally scheduled day off. Meaning whenever a manager scheduled that as a day off normally. If you asked for it off, then you weren't allowed to be there.
It was all pretty dumb. Especially getting stuck there until after midnight constantly. Even though they don't tell you that up front. Your shift might end at 9 or 10, but if you left then you didn't have a job tomorrow.

If he bought a ticket for every seat in that row, and reserved those seats, I'd think there's not a lot that the manager can do. He paid for those tickets and therefore, those seats, fair and square.

I mean I don't know if you've ever been to a theater with reserved seating, but a lot of people will reserve a seat and then sit in a better seat hoping the person doesn't show up. I've had it happen where I told them to move and it set off a chain of like 4 other groups of people moving.

Well... Economically speaking that would be retarded. 100 trillion zwn is worth 40 cents... where as 17 pesos is worth 1 us dollar... And unless you live in a border region you wouldn't be able to use the pesos anyway... So either way the currency is essentially useless to you and you would probably lose out on the exchange rate anyway when you try to convert it back into us dollars.

also certain AMC theateres near me (in NJ) have a thing where they have giant leather recliners and you can order drinks (alcoholic or not) and a full on meal. A waiter will come by your seat mid-movie and deliver it to you. Its expensive, but boy is it a luxury experience

Here they just have a separate section for the VIP booths where they serve alcohol. The regular seats are below so you can still hear loud ass obnoxious children.
On that note, you know who I respect even more than people with quiet kids in theaters? People with loud kids who take them to the lobby as a courtesy to the other patrons. Poor bastards paid to see a movie and their spawn are fucking it up for everybody so they GTFO to do a bunch of strangers a solid. I appreciate that.

Flix Brew House where I live. Full sized theater, craft beer, full food menu and their food is actually really good. Big leather seats with fold-down trays in front of you. During the movie you just write what you want on a little piece of paper, set it on the counter, and push a little button and one of the wait staff sneaks by and grabs it and runs off.

Some theaters are hybrid restaurants. In Asheville, NC there is a place called Asheville Pizza and Brewering Company that has couches and tables instead of regular seats, and there is a kitchen where they make pizza, wings, and stuff like that.

Not sure, I've done it through the cineplex and landmark cinemas websites though. I'm in Canada.
Try it - it usually shows a timer or something. If they didn't do that people could book your seats while you are completing the payment process.

Well that's hard to say because of so many expats building homes.... And loans are very difficult to get from a bank... So this is all in cash. I would say that to get a nice home, not an apartment, would be at least over 4,000,000 pesos so over 200,000 us or around that.

Sunday, before 12pm, you can grab seats for $8 a pop at my nearest AMC. You can easily reserve a full row for around $100.

I went to go see Wonder Woman opening weekend as well. My group had three reserved seats, but two of them were taken. We mention it to the people in our seats and they tell us their reserved seats were taken so they decided to sit there instead of making a fuss. We decide to just sit back one row because the seats are better anyways. This old dude comes in and says that we're in his seats. He shows us his ticket and everything. We explain that assigned seats are meaningless in a cruel and uncaring world. He goes to get a staff person. The staff asks us to move, so we go stand next to our assigned seats. This starts an avalanche with about 25 people being moved. Staff person has to check every ticket in the theatre. Makes 10 more people move. Old guy is still smiling. One of the last people to be moved is a mother with two toddlers and a baby. They had assigned seats on either side of him. Now he stops smiling.

We also have seat reservations online, but when you come, there are either people sitting there, or maybe your reserved seats weren't the best, and you see better ones that are still empty. If people come and claim them, so be it. You will claim yours. Otherwise, you have better seats than you reserved.

The whole assigned seating thing doesn't work unless everyone is assigned a seat. Otherwise if you were one of the people without an assigned seat, you would have no idea where you could or could not sit and would have to move every single time someone came in and kicked you out of their seat. It would be an absolute clusterfuck of people trying to rearrange themselves right before the movie and most people don't enjoy being kicked out of their seat or having to kick someone out of their seat which would mean bad customer experiences all around.
How about instead of a snarky canned remark, you provide us with an example of one theater in your area that does partial assigned seating?

Considering the way you act, I wouldn't be surprised if you live in some over-crowded, yet feral habitat like Philly, where this shit wouldn't work.
This is how most movie theaters work in the midwest. You can reserve a seat, and if somebody happens to be sitting in your seat when you arrive, you can show them your ticket, and they will usually just get up and move. If push comes to shove, you can get a manager. Most people don't care enough to reserve a seat, let alone argue about it.
Dunno why this is such a difficult concept to understand.

Ok you're really upset about this so I'll explain. AMC theaters have a reserved seating policy, but rarely is it enforced by the theater staff unless the theater is completely full. Therefore it's usually up the movie-goers to settle any assigned-seat related dispute amongst themselves. Also often times seats that show up as unavailable in the selection process end up being available. The last 4-5 times I've been to the movies I sat somewhere other than my assigned seat with no problem.

So...not OP or involved here, but I can answer your question...
Here, the best theater around does do partial reserved seating. For the D-BOX seats, the section in front of the walkway...there are two-four rows of D-BOX seats, all reservable. None of the other seats in the theater are. I have had more than one time where someone was sitting in my reserved D-BOX seats, but it's always been people that think the seats will work if someone didn't reserve them so they try to get the seat for free. Never had a problem kicking them out though.
Doesn't support or negate your argument, I just felt like saying that while I sit on hold waiting for the new owners to fix their broken phone software.

This wasn't about reserved seating being a thing or not, it was about if there were partial reserved seating theaters. Usually whenever a screen has reserved seating you can't just opt out, it's an all or nothing thing, or else it defeats the purpose of reserved seating...

Nope because you're still dumb as shit. Most theaters will print a ticket with a seat number no matter what but it is not enforced unless someone mentions "Oh yeah, I reserved these". If they're reserved already, no one else will get a randomly picked seat from that reserve pool.
Why would all theaters at this outside mall be reserved if it only allowed people that reserved it to sit?

At those theaters, when you buy the ticket you get to pick your seat. If you do not pick a seat, you get assigned an empty one. That's still a reserved seat. There's still a seat number on your ticket. It's not "partially reserved". If you, after buying your random ticket, never go see the movie then that seat will be empty because it was reserved for you at your time of purchase.

It's a thing. Most theaters will probably accommodate you if you prepurchase a large number of tickets in advance. They just rope off an area for your party. Especially something like Zootopia, the theater probably assumed it was for a child's birthday party or something. What, you buy 20 seats in advance and are expected to not sit together?

How would that even work? You don't reserve a seat, sit down with your family of 4, and then 2min before the film starts, someone walks in and tells you that they actually reserved that seat. But at this point, there's no where else you can get 4 seats all together, so you just go and sit in the corner by yourself and to no fault of your own.

A group of four that wants to sit next to each other can reserve four seats together at a higher price, or risk not sitting as a group by buying standard priced tickets at the counter and keeping their fingers crossed. Meanwhile, a couple doesn't need to worry about reserving seats unless they want to be guaranteed the best seats in the house because two open seats aren't usually that hard to find. Movie theaters learned how to capitalize on the two most important things when going to see a movie: getting seats together, and getting good seats. You can guarantee both of those by paying more, or try your luck and hope it all works out [at the risk of getting booted from your seats by someone who paid more than you].

Exactly, the RPX theaters force you to reserve seats when you buy online or when you buy at the ticket booth - they turn the screen around and you pick your seats. But more importantly, he said it cost $150 - RPX theaters are waaay more expensive. $150 might get you 8 seats. To reserve a whole row (which is probably like 20 seats) I would bet it would be close to $800.

Have you ever been to an RPX theater? Typically they are always showing 3D as well. It's $32 for a ticket here. Batshit crazy. If you can find one without the bullshit 3D upcharge it's only like $18 cause it's a "premium experience." I made the assumption it was 3D because you'll be hard pressed to find an RPX showing that isn't 3D, but I could be wrong.
Granted, this is where I live so smaller cities might get away with it cheaper.
Edit: just checked my local theater which only has Transformers in 3D, for 10 tickets it's $144. I was close with 8 tickets, but still wrong.

That's fair, and I definitely made an assumption there. My only counter argument is that he specifically calls out it being an RPX, and those are typically enormous. We have 2 in my city and both are one of (if not THE) biggest theaters they have. I'll concede that it could have been a smaller one though, i just doubt it with how much they love filling as many seats as possible with "premium tickets"

Had something similar like this happen to me the other day, went with my family (parents, two brothers 11 And 6) to guardians of the galaxy 2 at a local amc.
So we get there early, get in the back row middle seats, you know the usual first pick type of deal. I chose to sit on the end next to my youngest brother. After about 10 minutes an old man brought his grandchild (I'm presuming. The man was quite old and the child was about 8 or 9) anyways cut to him deciding to sit his grandkid next to me, I mean literaly right next to me. Not a seat apart but right next to me. I had my drink on my right side coaster and the little kid put his arm down over my arm. May i mention these two were the first people in after us. Even if they just wanted to sit at our height, there were like 5 seats between me and the stairs.
Tbh though the kid wasnt that bad. He just jumped in his seat alot during the final big battle scene which kinda irritated me but oh well lol.

You can get a tiny cup of popcorn and a tiny cup of soda when you want and a small discount on a couple food items.
Free movies were determined by the studios. Sony movies couldn't be seen for free for several weeks after release. A few other studios had similar weird rules. And the house rule was that you couldn't be on premises if you asked for the day off. So taking the day off for a date wasn't allowed if you planned to go to a movie. The only way to see a free movie was to have it on a naturally scheduled day off. Meaning whenever a manager scheduled that as a day off normally. If you asked for it off, then you weren't allowed to be there.
It was all pretty dumb. Especially getting stuck there until after midnight constantly. Even though they don't tell you that up front. Your shift might end at 9 or 10, but if you left then you didn't have a job tomorrow.

I mean I don't know if you've ever been to a theater with reserved seating, but a lot of people will reserve a seat and then sit in a better seat hoping the person doesn't show up. I've had it happen where I told them to move and it set off a chain of like 4 other groups of people moving.
