My dad did this for real one time. It scared the living shit out of me. At the time I just got a flashlight and ofcourse wanted to play with it all night, so dad said, go to bed and don't play with it anymore.
So when he shut the door, I imediately got it out and shined right into this face in the middle of my room. terrifying
A parachute not opening... that's a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine... having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that's the way I wanna go!
I'd probably think I was going to shit my pants, so go into a crouching position (because if you're going to shit your pants then you don't want to be standing)... but then at the thought of shitting my pants in front of someone else I'd vomit on the floor, would trigger my 'or flight' response and turn around to run and knock myself out running into the wall behind me
I bout did that once, maybe just a mild heart attack. When I was super young, my dad had the glow in the dark Ghost rider doll with the skull face with fire and all we could see was this glowing fire skull. We screamed sooooooo loud and tried to run out the room, but since he was at the door, we didn't get far...

Yeah, my dad did it once, too. Except it was morning and I was arguing with my mom about what to wear to school and had been storming in and out of my room for a few minutes. I had stormed out to yell some more and when I came back into my room to slam the door, he was hiding behind it with a belt. He was tired of my arguing and disrespecting my mother, so he screamed some things at me and I got whipped, but Iโve blocked it out of my head and donโt really remember much except feeling completely traumatized. Iโm not even sure how old I was, but it was early adolescence. I hate jump scares and have been known to break down after too many. Ruined scary movies for me.

As a non-Chinese native, I can guarantee that this video is 100% legit. People always point to the camera operator and say it's fake because they think someone else must be in the room and filming this, but they forget that all Chinese homes have surveillance cameras in themsource, to ensure their citizens stay safe.
It's likely just the friendly camera operator saw this happen, and decided it was too funny to not share on the web.
He said his friend liked to fuck around with any unsecured alarms and security cameras he could find. I'm not sure I believe it, but it still needs to be discouraged.

The main difference between this and the ones people usually complain about is that this one is obviously a skit and doesn't require the illusion of spontaneity to maintain the humor. No one is expecting us to believe it really happened.
If it makes you feel better, I think most of us realize it's scripted humor and are fine with it. It's just the ones that don't "get it" that are the ones commenting FAAAAAKE. I mean, I don't think that any one ever watched Vines and were like "Dude, no way did that happen, that's scripted!" Well yea, that's the point. I'm okay with them being scripted but whenever I see a "skit" including kids it just feels exploitative to me? Like you're using your kid to make money on the internet. OR even worse just for the fake internet fame.
How else would someone be filming from the start from this point of view? Find it so funny how my American friends don`t see this in their reality show, telling me everything is real.
I mean, how could anyone not know that this was intentionally set up? There's obviously someone operating the camera. That doesn't make it any less funny.

For a while these kinds of videos were set up to hit the meme circuit. Recently though I've seen a lot more of these that are entertaining skits that aren't trying to be real. They've been a lot more enjoyable.
The fact that there is clearly a person sitting there filming it really should tip them off that its a skit, yet people will still point out that its not real like they're some kind of god damn genius for figuring it out.

Hell I knew some dumbass bullies in the mid 00s who tried to intimidate people by saying their victim wasn't there because they had pulled that shit on him in a car park, but that he'd never admit it when he came back. I quit following wrestling when I got to college. College was busy and social. And the Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Brett Hit Man Hart, Goldberg et al had left WWE. These guys did a really good job of convincing you.
There were newer guys like Cena and Orton, but they were just punks for me back then. Some of the talent I liked, like Bobby Lashley, Jean Snitsky and Carlito Carrabean Cool left as soon as they arrived.
This made sure that I was never able to learn the reality of wrestling. It was only after reading the story of CM Punk that I realised what was what. (Moreover some of the newer acts like the New Day, AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal are great) Thereafter I started watching the highlights of WWE shows (Raw and SW) and TNA.
There are people who believe a man who literally shits on a golden toilet cares about the working class. Is it really so hard to believe that some people think wrestling is real?

This is how I feel when I watch a movie with my dad that is based on a completely unrealistic concept (like superheroes etc) and he points out something small that is realistically unrealistic (if that makes sense?) like a woman wearing high heels to run to the grocery store or something and Iโm like โOh yeah?? Stephen King actually explains this pretty well in Misery. The story has a premise - superheroes exist; if you accept that, everything related to them is ok. However, the "shopping in high heels" part doesn't make sense even if you accept the premise.
For an alternative example, in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" you have people and cartoons living in the same world and interacting with each other. That is the premise and the rest of the movie makes sense once you accept that. However, if you at some point in Star Wars you would have seen a cartoon rabbit interacting with people, that would have been jarring, even though you're in a sci-fi story, because it doesn't fit the premise.
Right?! It's just a short sketch. And it's cute and funny. People realize everything doesn't have to be real to be on this site and entertaining...right?
That's what happened to Advice Animals too. Originally it was just archetypes to illustrate silly scenarios and occasionally share real stories. Then all of a sudden they all had to be real.

Social media culture has driven people to represent themselves online as far more interesting than they are, and to get self-validation from people's reaction to that unrealistic representation.

That's subjective and totally in control of parents. The kid will need to learn how to use a phone eventually. No harm in starting young if you're smart about it.
Gameboy Colors used to cost around $70 when they first came out which is like $100 now. You can get an android phone or tablet that can run most games for about half of that.
After watching some videos on that phone, anything more than 2D lags the hell out of it. Asphalt 8 slows down to less than half speed in most maps and that came out years ago

A good value doesn't mean it backs it up. 3d games are the norm in modern phone games, so no, it isn't most. I won't deny the value, but it costs more than $50 to get what a kid would want out of it, seeing all the cool games on the play store that barely run on their phone

My parents bought my younger brother a gameboy when he was 4 after he threw a tantrum demanding it. I was the well-behaved older brother who never asked for toys.
I feel you homie. My situation was similar. My bro was 5 years older and had every freedom in the world. So of course he got 5 speeding tickets in a month, got caught shoplifting, caught drunk after he drove home, left his weed out at the house and much more.
I was the good kid who just so happened to be on lockdown because of "past experience" obviously. I still love him though :) He just had a bit of a wild streak that screwed me over some.
Really not necessary. These devices are meant to be REALLY easy to master. Kids nowadays spend a whole lot of time on their phones, and have been for most of their lives, but in the end they don't know two things about how to properly use a computer or pretty much anything else that isn't their favorite app/social media app.
Source: am a teacher with a lot of 11 to 18-years-olds students who struggle to make one proper search on google while being hooked to their phone 24/7. I'm 31 myself, never really used a smartphone till I was already an adult, but I was really addicted to video games (arguably I still am). I learned how to use and fix computers out of necessity, but these kids are not on computers, they are spending the vast majority of their time on messengers and social media and shit freemium games on their phones.

1- Screen time before bed is demonstrably bad for your sleep, both to fall asleep and for your sleep quality.
2- All the applications a child would use on the phone are really addictive and create what is called a dopamine loop, this have been largely linked with tones of health and mental issues in developing kids and adults alike.
There are literal hundreds of peer reviewed papers on the subject, I really encourage you to read about it as it's a very interesting subject with lots of misinformation surrounding it.

Well, as far as I know, that's not ALWAYS the case.
It really depends on the child, he/she may be receptive to the gadgets in a positive and constructive manner like educational games & videos or come under a bad influence and use them for nefarious purposes, like gambling, porn etc.
Parents can act responsibly and 'care for the child's well-being' by keeping a check on what he/she's viewing on the net. There are plenty of softwares for that.
Oh you are definitely right, there is a good use for these gadgets and it has really interesting educational purposes. I'd even go as far that it doesn't really depend on the child like you said: it's great for virtually every children if used right.
However for the sake of the argument and keeping this video in mind, her parents are not with her and the environment is not controlled, and it's still bedtime: not a proper time to do activities on a screen.
Also, very few educational games on phones are actually conceived without the dopamine loop effect implemented in them, which is really bad.

if you actually think kids go to sleep when they're told to, youre clearly not a parent. What is now phones and tablets was formerly dolls and comics. kids not going to bed and staying up to do whatever is not something that suddenly started with kids getting their hands on smartphones.
If you let your kids have their devices in bed, you're doing it wrong. Let kids be kids and let them find diversions before actually sleeping, but don't let these diversions be screens.
I babysitted my nephew two nights a week for more than one year, yeah he would sometimes struggle to fall asleep and yes he would almost never actually want to GO to sleep, but you bet he didn't have a device with him in his bedroom. We played on tablets 45 minutes to 1 hour during the day, together, and that was all. He loved it and he always wanted more, but if you propose anything else, he would do it with pleasure.
edit: I'm also a teacher (middle school + high school) and I have about 150 kids every year, I always ask about how they sleep (because it's primordial to get a good night sleep, especially at their age), and if the majority indeed have a phone with them when they sleep, a reassuring 15~25% are not allowed to have any screen devices with them. I suppose these kids have parents, so it can be done. Being bad at that particular aspect of parenting is fine if you try your best to fix it, but don't hide behind the "you can't understand if you aren't a parent" non-argument, it's shameful. Your kids deserve it and will thank you for it.

Eating doesn't last all that long. Dining does and it is super boring to kids. I totally understand giving them something to do, reading, drawing, gaming, whatever. We do the same at home. Kid eats with us. If he is done and we are still talking and taking our sweet time, he can excuse himself and go play.
Young kids don't sit at tables foran hour and a half. Even other articles on the topic that give advice for how to keep the child down have a whole laundry list of ideas, confirming that it's not natural behavior for young kids. Parents giving their kids a device at a restaurant aren't allowing the device to "parent their kids" they're using a tool that keeps the kid calm and occupied in a situation where that previously wasn't possible.

I have a niece thatโs about 8 now, she still plays with toys all the time. She also enjoys playing on phones all the time, itโs just a matter of how she feels that day. Donโt underestimate a kidโs imagination and their ability to have fun using it.
I have 10 and 11 year old girls. The 11 year old would be mortified if her friends saw her playing with "toys". The 10 year old will play with toys if she isn't allowed on technology, but would choose Minecraft, Roblox or Pokemon over physical toys 100% of the time if given the choice. Haha.
That is not why ToysRUs is dying at all. You should go into one sometime. It's mildly horrifying. And kids till play with plenty of toys. You clearly are not around enough kids.

He was tired of my arguing and disrespecting my mother, so he screamed some things at me and I got whipped, but Iโve blocked it out of my head and donโt really remember much except feeling completely traumatized. Iโm not even sure how old I was, but it was early adolescence. I hate jump scares and have been known to break down after too many. Ruined scary movies for me.

As a non-Chinese native, I can guarantee that this video is 100% legit. People always point to the camera operator and say it's fake because they think someone else must be in the room and filming this, but they forget that all Chinese homes have surveillance cameras in themsource, to ensure their citizens stay safe.
It's likely just the friendly camera operator saw this happen, and decided it was too funny to not share on the web.

I quit following wrestling when I got to college. College was busy and social. And the Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Brett Hit Man Hart, Goldberg et al had left WWE. These guys did a really good job of convincing you.
There were newer guys like Cena and Orton, but they were just punks for me back then. Some of the talent I liked, like Bobby Lashley, Jean Snitsky and Carlito Carrabean Cool left as soon as they arrived.
This made sure that I was never able to learn the reality of wrestling. It was only after reading the story of CM Punk that I realised what was what. (Moreover some of the newer acts like the New Day, AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal are great) Thereafter I started watching the highlights of WWE shows (Raw and SW) and TNA.

it's real to an extent. they're doing actual moves that can cause actual injury. of course the storylines/rivalries/etc are all scripted but it's basically soap operas for men.

Stephen King actually explains this pretty well in Misery. The story has a premise - superheroes exist; if you accept that, everything related to them is ok. However, the "shopping in high heels" part doesn't make sense even if you accept the premise.
For an alternative example, in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" you have people and cartoons living in the same world and interacting with each other. That is the premise and the rest of the movie makes sense once you accept that. However, if you at some point in Star Wars you would have seen a cartoon rabbit interacting with people, that would have been jarring, even though you're in a sci-fi story, because it doesn't fit the premise.

The real answer to your question is that there is an epidemic of fake or unrealistic shit on the internet posted by people who are attention-seeking or looking to feel validated by what they post and how many likes it gets, and a lot of people are tired of it.
It's not as simplistic as "they're comedy skits lul." Lots of people posting fake or scripted videos are not presenting them as comedy skits when they're posted. Social media culture has driven people to represent themselves online as far more interesting than they are, and to get self-validation from people's reaction to that unrealistic representation.

There's a lot of research going back a number of years that shows the unrealistic representations portrayed on social media cause a lot of misery because people feel their lives don't measure up. "Fakeness" on the internet isn't as innocuous as a lot of people like to think it is.

Really not necessary. These devices are meant to be REALLY easy to master. Kids nowadays spend a whole lot of time on their phones, and have been for most of their lives, but in the end they don't know two things about how to properly use a computer or pretty much anything else that isn't their favorite app/social media app.
Source: am a teacher with a lot of 11 to 18-years-olds students who struggle to make one proper search on google while being hooked to their phone 24/7. I'm 31 myself, never really used a smartphone till I was already an adult, but I was really addicted to video games (arguably I still am). I learned how to use and fix computers out of necessity, but these kids are not on computers, they are spending the vast majority of their time on messengers and social media and shit freemium games on their phones.

1- Screen time before bed is demonstrably bad for your sleep, both to fall asleep and for your sleep quality.
2- All the applications a child would use on the phone are really addictive and create what is called a dopamine loop, this have been largely linked with tones of health and mental issues in developing kids and adults alike.
There are literal hundreds of peer reviewed papers on the subject, I really encourage you to read about it as it's a very interesting subject with lots of misinformation surrounding it.

Well, as far as I know, that's not ALWAYS the case.
It really depends on the child, he/she may be receptive to the gadgets in a positive and constructive manner like educational games & videos or come under a bad influence and use them for nefarious purposes, like gambling, porn etc.
Parents can act responsibly and 'care for the child's well-being' by keeping a check on what he/she's viewing on the net. There are plenty of softwares for that.

Oh you are definitely right, there is a good use for these gadgets and it has really interesting educational purposes. I'd even go as far that it doesn't really depend on the child like you said: it's great for virtually every children if used right.
However for the sake of the argument and keeping this video in mind, her parents are not with her and the environment is not controlled, and it's still bedtime: not a proper time to do activities on a screen.
Also, very few educational games on phones are actually conceived without the dopamine loop effect implemented in them, which is really bad.
Once again you are right, but I might add that it's not only about what she sees, but for how long :)

If you let your kids have their devices in bed, you're doing it wrong. Let kids be kids and let them find diversions before actually sleeping, but don't let these diversions be screens.
I babysitted my nephew two nights a week for more than one year, yeah he would sometimes struggle to fall asleep and yes he would almost never actually want to GO to sleep, but you bet he didn't have a device with him in his bedroom. We played on tablets 45 minutes to 1 hour during the day, together, and that was all. He loved it and he always wanted more, but if you propose anything else, he would do it with pleasure.
edit: I'm also a teacher (middle school + high school) and I have about 150 kids every year, I always ask about how they sleep (because it's primordial to get a good night sleep, especially at their age), and if the majority indeed have a phone with them when they sleep, a reassuring 15~25% are not allowed to have any screen devices with them. I suppose these kids have parents, so it can be done. Being bad at that particular aspect of parenting is fine if you try your best to fix it, but don't hide behind the "you can't understand if you aren't a parent" non-argument, it's shameful. Your kids deserve it and will thank you for it.

Young kids don't sit at tables for an hour and a half. Even other articles on the topic that give advice for how to keep the child down have a whole laundry list of ideas, confirming that it's not natural behavior for young kids. Parents giving their kids a device at a restaurant aren't allowing the device to "parent their kids" they're using a tool that keeps the kid calm and occupied in a situation where that previously wasn't possible.

One sixth of the world's population is Chinese. There's an insane amount of media generated but just shared within their own platforms and apps (weibo, youku, wechat, etc) and even movies. They have many cheap smartphone brands that we don't get to see in the market. I think what you have noticed is just part of what leaks out to the Western culture.
Besides, all the other 'Western' content might be made in different countries but we have no way to know. Think of all the Russian stuff for example
