No, you have to just do two clicks, but during the second one you need to hold a finger alongside it so it only comes out the desired length. It's inconvenient that a small mark of graphite is left, but it's a firstworldsolution nonetheless.

Maybe, depending on when your calendar starts. However there is something about particular gauge mechanical pencils, and Rapidographs, that is ageless and will always withstand the tests of time.

I like to click the pencil out twice and then snap the tip of the lead off with my fingernail. The remaining bit at the end is the right length and it isn't rounded off so it doesn't make that annoying noise.
