If I stop eating at a restaurant, nobody questions why I don't like their food. If I stop listening to a band's CD, nobody harasses me about my taste in music.

If I stop attending the "One and only true church, God's church, the plan of happiness and joy", the supposed most familiar thing to my eternities with our father in heaven and endless eternal happiness. If I stop attending that church, I am immediately questioned. IT DOESN'T MATTER THE REASON I LEAVE, HOW CAN IT BE THE THINGS YOU THINK IT IS, IF WE DO LEAVE? If you actually have the most delicious pizza in town, and this pizza never loses its flavor, and just eating makes me lose weight and look like Brad Pitt, how could anyone possibly not like that pizza, UNLESS, perhaps, that's all bullshit? Perhaps, it's just like any other pizza, and not everyone likes it. You don't look like Brad Pitt to everyone, you look like a fool who is obsessed with mediocre pizza.

If you have the best, most flavory pizza in town, your diner would be packed...it's not, and it's NOT because we are unable to follow your diner's rules. Your pizza just ain't that good, it's kinda shit.

Shitty pizza!
This is the best testimony I've heard today.

Their pizza is nasty and it ruins families and lives.

If you stop frequenting a restaurant, it's probably because you're cheating on your wife.

Meat lovers pizza is clearly against Gods plan too. One pepperoni and one vagina. Thatโ€™s the only way.

Metaphors are hard.

I recently heard the argument that "atheist" shouldn't be a word. We don't have other words for someone who doesn't believe in Santa, or Zeus, or that the world is flat.

Makes sense to me.

To be fair though, if you want to cancel TV service, phone service, credit cards, etc you'll usually be questioned and tried to be talked out of the decision because the company wants more money. TBMs are basically TSCCs retention employees. Gotta keep those numbers and revenue up for the shareholders!

That's because we're all supposed to stay in the brainwashed tradition, or cult, in which we were raised and not question.

Or just imagine Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof singing Tradition.

Excellent analogy. An exmo can never be right in the eyes of a TBM. Never. They always left for a bad reason, because leaving is just inherently bad.

As John Dehlin has defined it, a cult is any organization you can't leave with with your dignity intact. That definition certainly applies to the Church, but not to the pizza joint in our town.

Probably something to do with how religious people believe in eternal consequences. When it comes to religion it's generally about what you will be doing for an eternity. Music and food don't have that concept, they only last a very short time.
