Agreed, r/exmormon is striking gold with their covfefe references right now

officially_apostate ยท 40 points ยท Posted at 23:34:51 on May 31, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I seriously feel bad for this girl. She thought this was a clever photo of all the made up names she came up with, but now she's forever saved in exmormon meme-dom or meme-universe or whatever you want to call it.

Ua_Tsaug ยท 33 points ยท Posted at 00:20:22 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

She shouldn't have picked stupid names then.

almostexmormon ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 09:35:25 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I have a niece with one of the names on there. Every few years when this picture pops up, I get a pretty good laugh.

officially_apostate ยท 24 points ยท Posted at 00:01:33 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

The last name on the list, yes. But this is a real photo with real names she was deciding on. The original photo has been in circulation for years. #mormonsgonnamorm

ArchimedesPPL ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 01:41:02 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Not mormon, no garments.

officially_apostate ยท 9 points ยท Posted at 02:00:46 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

She could still be Mormon without garments. Just not a temple attending Mormon.

Also, underwear checking pictures?? Creepy! /s ๐Ÿ˜œ

Covfefe? I don't understand how that should even sound.

BrunetteBebe ยท 19 points ยท Posted at 23:57:02 on May 31, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I have a graduate degree in linguistics and I can't figure out how this is supposed to be pronounced.

seventhvision ยท 14 points ยท Posted at 03:12:24 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I feel so sorry for any one that gets stuck with such a goofy name. I think the parents are being totally selfish when they stick their kids with crazy weird names. My TBM dil is doing this to her kids. Their names are a laughable joke. They don't live in Utah, so I think it will be difficult road for these kids.

One child has such a horrid name that I notice the parents have kind of backed off using it. I think they got so many horrified looks from people when they heard the darling baby girls name. I saw it happen a couple of times when I went shopping with dil and new baby. One lady was so speechless that she turned and walked away.

Hello mom??? Are you in there???

MississippiJoel ยท 15 points ยท Posted at 03:50:30 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

seventhvision ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 05:18:57 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Ish, sorry about that. Just try and think of some of the worst names they gave to girls in the late 1800's. Add to that a very odd and misplaced surname of some long dead relatives that nobody knew.

Now, name your precious child that name. There you have it, x3 and soon t be 4.

0rville ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 13:29:52 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

So Edithpratt. Or Maudcobbler. Or Mabelhornsby. Or Harrietchester.

Am I close?

daveescaped ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:23:28 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Or you could go with Hollywood style names:

Peanut Bucket

Bracket

Zaffo

Hashtag

Sprocket (but that's really a boys only name isn't it)

0rville ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 14:26:44 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Sprocket

Definitely a boy's name. But I think it should be spelled Schprocket to ensure it's pronounced correctly.

daveescaped ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:36:09 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I think it should be spelled Schprocket

Whew! Good catch. I think we can still fix the birth certificate.

And of course Dancer is the middle name. Obvs.

Still-ILO ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 13:49:07 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

No kidding. Really? All that and then nothing??

I'm not sure about girl names, but I definitely feel sorry for the Hebers and the Hyrums. Yes, we know these parents want to scream "we're Mormon and that makes us special" at the tops of their lungs, but that doesn't do much for these boys unless they're inside the Morcor, and even that doesn't change the fact that those names just suck.

daveescaped ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:19:52 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

People think that some unique name is like some secret back door in to good pre-schools and play groups on up to the ivy league. What nonsense. People who make up nonsensical names for their kids show just how superficial they imagine life to be. They think a name is so all important. It only proves you view style as greater than substance.

OK, name rant over. But that list was triggering for me. :-)

barbielegs67 ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 01:09:52 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

That is a great rule for naming children. Would you take them seriously if they handed you a business card?

What's with the ys in the names TBM has tyce and talyn but to each their own

Frommerman ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 23:15:28 on May 31, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I knew a guy named Thijs, pronounced Tyce.

He wasn't Mormon and was Dutch.

MachiFlorence ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 00:06:05 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

As a Dutch person I don't find it a strange name...

Too lazy to look it up but I think it is a shortened form of Matthew?

As in Mattheus/Matthias > Matthijs > Thijs

(ij in Dutch is always an i like eye sound)

friendofsmellytapir ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 23:39:53 on May 31, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I know a family where every single kid has a name ending in "i"

Not sure if they dot them with hearts, though.

I know a family who had 8 kids and all names had an 'ee' sound at the end...y, ey, ie

Another family gave their 4 girls an 'a' at the end of their names, but all normal names. Their son was given an ordinary biblical name.

Covfefe? That'd be a death sentence in the Morridor. "How you say that? Like "coffee?" Yeah - would not end well for said kid. On the plus side, everyone would just call them "Cov" because nicknames are a Morridor thing.

schleppenheimer ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 11:10:10 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

My reasoning for being angry at the stupid Mormon names is because it reflects so widely on the dumb general Mormon population that thinks those Mormon baby names are cute or fashionable. Ugh.

I knew a Mormon girl who named her daughter Abcde said "Ab-sid-ee." She said she named her that so that she could easily spell her name. My wife also has a friend who named her daughter La-a said "La-dash-uh." Morms gotta Morm.

weagle-weagle ยท 19 points ยท Posted at 00:12:57 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I'm sorry, but no you don't. Both of these are common urban myths. Do you know a Lemonjello and Orangejello too?

FannysForAlgernon ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 01:21:27 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I can personally guarantee you that, despite the urban myths, some of those names exist. I've seen proof, and of fat worse names than that

weagle-weagle ยท 10 points ยท Posted at 01:48:59 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Abcde is possible but HIGHLY unlikely and La-a is even on Snopes. To know one of each is completely unbelievable to me, but y'all do you.

FannysForAlgernon ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 01:56:53 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I work in an industry where I review legal names all day long.

weagle-weagle ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 02:03:10 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

My claim is that this guy isn't connected to both names. I also believed my stepdad knew people with kids named Pajama (Pay-ja-may) and Orangejello/Lemonjello for years before I grew up.

FannysForAlgernon ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 02:30:41 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Understood, and I'm saying if you work in certain jobs you see a ton of names. I've seen names that make every single one you've listed look downright normal. Courts, accounting, medical, vital records, admissions, etc you are going to see s ton of crazy names. So yes, be skeptical. Don't parrot something you haven't personally seen or perpetuate urban myths. But these aren't that crazy of claims

weagle-weagle ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 02:32:39 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Well, they are considering the statistics on both. Again, all I'm attacking is his claim that he's certain he is connected to both because that is painfully unlikely and to believe it is simply naive. I'm certain both names exist, as the internet clearly proves that.

FannysForAlgernon ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:28:54 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Unlikely doesn't always mean not true. Would I stake anything of value on his claim being true? Fuck no. But I also wouldn't bet against it. It's a silly thing to automatically discount and be so certain of the falsehood of.

For the record, I've personally seen multiples of one of the names you mentioned and I've seen far more unlikely names too. If I listed the top ten weirdest names I've seen anyone would call bullshit. Statistically improbable? Yes. But if you roll the dice all day long you're bound to get a lot of yahtzees

seventhvision ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:33:47 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

You're right on. I know that for real. To make matters worse, I have two TBM granddaughters with horrid names. They're still too young to get the joke that's been played on them. I can't bring myself to say their names. That's how bad they are. I have endearing nicknames that I call them. They do the same with me :)

I can't say their names here. They'd show up right away on Google. I don't think that's a good thing either. Worst of all, their middle names are even worse!

seventhvision ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:28:29 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

I used to be an information operator. Yes, these crazy names and more exist. I feel so sorry for some people. I sometimes wonder why they don't legally change their names.

The ones that really got me were the women with stripper names that obviously weren't strippers. There were a LOT of those. Candi Cayne, or a version of it was a popular one.

FannysForAlgernon ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:30:21 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Parents name their children crazy things sometimes, and in other cases they themselves chose the name through court order. The "urban legend" ones are actually more believable than most weird ones I see.

AceofColorado ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 00:31:36 on June 1, 2017 ยท (Permalink)

Who the Hell are you to say who myself and my wife know?? I don't care if there is an urban myth about these names. My wife and I DO know people with these names. Also, I knew a kid names Bobby Balls growing up whose dad's name is Harry. Do you want to call me a liar on that one too???
