Oh man. It's annoying enough when people write 'Isle', this has to be on purpose

To be fair, "aisle" is kind of a dumb word. Right up there with colonel and ouija. If English ever dies, future linguists are going to have a fun time figuring it out.
I'm half French, and I hadn't had proper French classes in a long time, so my spelling and grammar wasn't the best. On my first French test in high school I scored a solid 5/32. The thing was that every single answer was phonetically correct, it's just that French spelling and grammar is a bitch.
Every time I still read Colonel as cawl-o-nel. It’s like epitome in that way. Eh-puh-tome (don’t worry I only read it that way, I don’t actually say these things)

Reminds me of the pizza store manager I worked for years ago that always wrote "saus" for pizza sauce. Like how do you butcher words you see and work with every day?

Quiz time: Guess how the French word 'aient' is pronounced.
Hover for answer (sorry if you're on mobile).

Oh god, French. Who needs to pronounce letters anyway?
The language where a simple "what's that" is pronounced "kes-ku-se" and spelled as "qu'est-ce que c'est".

Wow, my best guess was "aint." Like the fake word for "am not"

Ain't is a contraction for am not, is not, are not, has not, and have not in the common English language vernacular.

Makes sense when people want to do things faster, like Cakeo said. I also see Chinese waiters write 反 instead of 饭 (rice), it's understood.
