I think it might be along the lines of that one CGP grey video that talks about ways to maximize sadness. It’s showing someone how to act by telling them the opposite of what they should be doing. The animal part kinda throws this off though...

Annoying People at the Movies

"Bring two or more people with you to start a loud and obnoxious conversation while the movie is playing, and make sure to be near as many people as possible. If anyone tells you to zip it, throw popcorn at them.

If no one wants to be with you, bring your cell phone and don't bother to put it on vibrate. Make sure that your cell phone goes off like a car alarm and don't answer it for at least a minute."

I don't understand how fat people in America are likened to cows instead of pigs. Cows are actually pretty lean.

Infinity315 · 72 points · Posted at 07:05:34 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

People call cops pigs in America.

VoloxReddit · 32 points · Posted at 09:30:17 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

This is all pretty funny considering in Germany it's flipped. A cop is referred to as a Bull and a fat pig is for when you want to be a horrible person to someone who's overweight. Don't do it folks.

[deleted] · -14 points · Posted at 07:08:40 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

That's right... but that doesn't make much sense either. Lazy? Sure I guess. I would consider them good boys in blue because they are loyal to each other and the badge.

Bombastik_ · 17 points · Posted at 08:33:03 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

Loyal to each other ? But their first mission is to protect and serve the citizen. Not themselves and hiding things from the public to cover their ass. That’s why they inherited the term « pig »

Spiderbeard · 1 points · Posted at 08:44:25 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

Pigs do that?

PNWRoamer · 9 points · Posted at 12:53:38 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

Pigs are pretty greedy and consume anything put in front of them. The term is closely tied to the "doughnut eating" stereotype. Pigs also do love digging and playing in mud and are generally considered dirty.

Its just the fattest most slovenly animal someone thought of, so it stuck.

This is actually a myth. For any emergency services (firefighters, police, paramedics), it goes you > your partner > other emergency responders > your patient/suspect > the general public. The #1 goal has always been to go home safe.

rangda · 10 points · Posted at 13:12:18 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

I guess it’s just that cows are so large and heavy overall. A cow in your living room would be pretty ungainly. A lady with a big matronly bosom might look a bit cow-like. “Fat cow” is only ever used for women because cows are female. “Fat pig” is not just for the men, but the women and children, too.

You also use "pig" in America to describe someone who is sloppy, rude, or without good manners. If someone gets food all over themselves while eating, they might end up being called a pig. If someone cat calls at you, you can call them a pig. If someone burps loudly, you can also call them a pig.

Baloomf · 2 points · Posted at 11:53:13 on March 22, 2018 · (Permalink)

It used to be that way. In old cartoons you might see people animated to look like a skinny cow, Olive Oyl was animated that way a couple times I think.

I used to ride a bicycle to work, and I would ride past this house with a good sized field with some horses in it. One day, the horses were hanging out right at the fence next to the bike path, so I decided I would say hello. Now, the thing is, I don't actually speak horse. So I improvised. I said, "moo moo moo, moo moo, moo moo,"which, of you speak any of the more common cow dialects, is a fairly common greeting, in the hope maybe at least one of the horses spoke cow. They all just ignored me, which I felt was pretty rude. I got to work, and told my sister about my encounter, but she said it was strange for me to expect horses to understand cow. Anyhow, she said, the phrasing should be, "moo moo, moo moo moo, moo moo." I countered that if you went to France and didn't speak French you might try a phrase or two in a language you did speak; English, or German, or Spanish for example. And I maintain "moo moo moo, moo moo, moo moo," is a perfectly understandable bovine salutation. Sis and I never came to an agreement on that.

Moo moo moo, moo moo, moo moo to all of you.
