Would you also like your grass cut and car washed while I’m there?

I’m missing Louisiana on my concrete map. This will do nicely.

I cannot stop chuckling about the mental image of someone hobbling around with blocks of concrete trying to get their giant concrete map just right.

It’s like those giant chess sets where you have to lug the pieces around.

You don't hire people to dress up as the pieces for you? Peasant.

Yes. Looking on Craigslist in the free section, you will probably find somebody offering chunks of concrete for free as "fill dirt". Super lucrative.

Haha

nerpTV · 7 points · Posted at 02:10:07 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

That old growth wood is some seriously valuable shit and for good reason. Dense grain, non-farmed trees, especially when the barn was built from original old growth forests. Some nail rust stains and you are golden my friend. Stunning wood floors and furniture possibilities. Farmed wood boards just don't have the grain density.

PMmeplumprumps · 1 points · Posted at 01:37:28 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

Not amazing at all, except in the sense that you can make amazing stuff with barn wood

Felshatner · 1 points · Posted at 07:12:25 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

That’s heartwood. The good stuff. Takes forever to grow large enough for construction, but also lasts much longer than typical wood.

Because stupid got to this thread first. The responses to this getting upvotes are nice and sarcastic but when you're sarcastic and you don't know what the hell you're talking about you just look extra stupid.

  1. Yes there is a market for repurposed concrete

  2. It's fucking free. The ad just says you haul away and don't damage the house. How is that no reasonable?

beatjunkee · 18 points · Posted at 21:14:46 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

I have a cracked concrete pad that needs replacing, guess what, I have to pay to have it removed. No one wants that shit

insane250 · 47 points · Posted at 20:08:54 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

Nobody is actively looking for repurposed concrete though? Making it free doesn't make it worth to go through all this effort at all.

It's as if I listed ''free asbestos, damage to property is takers responsibility''.

MexusRex · -46 points · Posted at 20:28:49 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

insane250 · 24 points · Posted at 20:50:56 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

8 inch thick destroyed slabs? no.

KrytenLister · 6 points · Posted at 20:42:49 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

I can only assume the downvotes are for the semi-asshole tone you took.

Other than that you’re completely right.

Someone will happily take that away for free and make some money from it.

Jet washed and cut with proper equipment and there’s a decent payday for all sorts of garden projects.

nerpTV · 7 points · Posted at 02:13:00 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

After subtracting time, labor, hauling, tools, storage, then washing, cutting, storing, inventorying, marketing, selling, taxes, plus settling the lawsuit for leaving a footprint on that guy's lawn, not that great of a payday after all.

KrytenLister · 1 points · Posted at 05:02:42 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

Perhaps. Though someone intending to ride it for a project for a customer probably already has all the equipment needed

It also depends how much they might have budgeted to spend on their own garden. Doesn’t necessarily have to be for resale.

Someone trying to create a small walled off area, a path, a water feature.....there are creative people in the world who are quite happy to expend labour because they enjoy doing something rather than spending money on something new.

Really not a delusional thought at all.

So go get it then. You won't have any competition. I also have some "repurpose" concrete you can have. I think there's a couple old silos down the road that need to be removed. You'll be a rich man !! As long as you don't damage any property.

SliverTX · 23 points · Posted at 21:44:56 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

Show up in a truck that is not yours. Cover the plate in mud.

FeralSparky · 21 points · Posted at 22:51:25 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

Actually just covering the plate would be enough. Most vehicles are so generic its nearly impossible to track a non modified vehicle down.

[deleted] · 5 points · Posted at 07:39:44 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

Even better, cart it away in a wheelbarrow. Nobody's tracking that.

The going rate for concrete demo on something like this is about 8 to 12 dollars per square foot around here

crazyreddmerchant · 17 points · Posted at 20:18:00 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

And I don't think that ~$2500 would be half bad for removing what looks like it's 10' X 20' either.

lilmamma229 · 6 points · Posted at 22:56:06 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

Not to sound dense but how would one move that? Isn't it really heavy?

on_the_nip · 15 points · Posted at 23:02:49 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

Bust it into small chunks.

goosetavio · 9 points · Posted at 01:10:29 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

You come in with a skid steer or a jackhammer and break it up into manageable chunks, load the chunks in a dump truck and find somewhere to dump it (usually for a fee)

theres a couple companies that make cinderblocks around me, they giveaway all the broken ones away to contractors for free. the pile stays big as fuck and its already piled for you.

If you’re poor or a cheap bastard: sledgehammer, wheelbarrow, dumpster. To do it this way you also need to be in your 20’s and single. I busted one up larger than that with the aforementioned. I LOVED the smashing.

tallquasi · 2 points · Posted at 13:58:36 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

Some blankets or tarps too, unless you like broken windows.

TexasTechGuy · 2 points · Posted at 14:08:53 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

Tractor with forks. They just lift it up and it breaks into sections. Load it onto a trailer and take off. As they lift it in one spot it will crack in places making smaller chunks.

MJZMan · 26 points · Posted at 20:37:42 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

First off, that's a concrete slab, not a block. And no one is going to take it. How the fuck would you even lift it? You have to chop that shit into bits first, then you remove the bits. No one is gonna want the bits.

[deleted] · 12 points · Posted at 22:49:04 on August 14, 2019 · (Permalink)

TexasTechGuy · 5 points · Posted at 14:10:24 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

They wont pay for it but they will show up for free and remove it. I had an entire slab removed last year for free and they crushed the concrete and sold it. There are services for this and it depends on the need for crushed concrete at the time. Some people were charging to remove but those that needed concrete to sell came out for free.

RustyStinkfist · 2 points · Posted at 02:27:28 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

That's not leaving except in the form of rubble.

the_not_my_throwaway · 2 points · Posted at 07:20:02 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

I get the delusional part is the removal. But crush it and it'll save you a ton. Filler concrete is used a ton

TexasTechGuy · -1 points · Posted at 14:05:50 on August 15, 2019 · (Permalink)

Literally had some people come and tear up a slab in my backyard for free (old shed). Loaded it up in big trailers and left. This was in Texas. They crush it and sell it. Its used to fill holes/make roads/etc in the rural areas.

This is not delusional. Its about a fourth of the size of my slab but someone might still come pull it out.
