I used to be a UGE Kanye fan, but I haven't listened to him for a while. Try to keep in mind that he's such a great artist because of his creative vision and the amount of creative control he has over his projects, not his raw rapping ability. Some of his verses on TLOP ruined the absolutely beautiful production that he managed, especially on Wolves. I might get downvoted for that opinion.
Here are a few of my favorites off of each album:
College Dropout:
We Don't Care
All Falls Down
Spaceship
School Spirit
Through the Wire (His jaw was wired shut when he recorded this)
Late Registration
Heard 'Em Say
Touch the Sky
Roses
We Major
Hey Mama
Gone (His best verse)
Graduation
Good Morning
Can't Tell Me Nothing
Flashing Lights
Everything I Am
808's and Heartbreak (my favorite album)
Say You Will
Amazing
Love Lockdown
Street Lights
Bad News
Coldest Winter
Pinocchio Story
MBDTF
Just listen to the whole thing. My favorites are Runaway and Lost in the World.
Watch The Throne
No Church in the Wild
Ni**as in Paris
Otis
Made in America
HAM
Cruel Summer
Skip it, maybe just listen to Mercy.
Yeezus
- It's like 30 minutes, try to listen to it all. Second favorite album.
Also, his music is REALLY varied. Compare College Dropout/Late Registration's soul-sampling production with Graduation's party rap and 808's robotic synths/drum machines. Compare MDTF's large-scale, operatic rap with Yeezus' industrial, grimy rap and TLOP'S radio rap. It's crazy.

I might get downvoted for that opinion because some Kanye stans will never admit that their savior is infallible.
Poor guy :( You're just trying to take a step ahead in the argument so if anyone disagrees you can point back and say that they're just proving you right.
I downvoted you cause of that and I love the rapping on Wolves.
I guess you're right. I'm enough of an adult to admit when I'm wrong. It is my own opinion that the rapping on Wolves is trash, but really don't see how anyone can defend it. The singing and production are near-ethereal, and then Kanye comes in and drops a bar about getting taken advantage of with a metaphor about someone stealing sandwich out of a refrigerator. A little too on the nose. He could have used a little more tact.
nibsti ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 20:35:47 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
No worries lol, idk why things like thag get me riled up. To be fair the sandwich line is pretty bad, but I guess I like the juxtaposition of the serious instrumental and his somewhat goofy lyrics. There's a lot of that on Yeezus. I'm sure he doesn't think that his rapping is as good as it was on his first couple albums and I see it as deliberate. It's kinda like he's trying to tackle lots of emotional and social problems but still keep the raps about topics that other rappers rap about.
Thereโs gold digger, niggas in Paris, stronger, all of the lights, power, Jesus walks, all fall down, love lockdown, good morning, and my personal favorite Homecoming. These are imo very good popular songs heโs created. I think Kanye is ahead of most rappers and knows what will be popular and makes it before itโs actually popular.
Yeezy fucking revolutionized the rap game by proving you didn't have to be some big thug gangster to be a rapper. You could be some short nobody with no bass in your voice wearing a pink polo and still kill the game. Only people like 50 Cent rapped before Kanye came along. every single one of his albums changed the game when they came out, Graduation, 808's and Heartbreak, Late Registration, MBDTF, Yeezus, and the media firestorm Life of Pablo created for fucking months; I don't know any other artist right now whose entire discography is as solid and regularly re-listened to as Kanye's, what kind of scene would rap be in now if MBDTF wasn't made? When was the last time Kanye released anything and it wasn't a huge deal? Not to mention he runs a fashion line, he makes art and mixed media work, puts on art exhibitions etc.
it's just the typical thing to hate on Kanye because he's loud and cocky and mainstream while completely ignoring the fact that he has a very peculiar and interesting artistic vision and an affinity for fine arts. I'd go so far as to say he is one of the few people on Earth who's earned being that cocky because he works his ass off on so much shit and is actually pretty damn good at most of it, not to mention almost all on his own from being a nothing nobody from Chi Town, he's truly a self made man.
the only thing delusional in this whole thread is everyone who just takes Kanye at face value and is actually deluded into taking his trolling shit like this serious and waste their time giving their genuine two cents on what they think about the man lol everyone is in a thread like this getting their jimmies rustled over some backhand remark that he probably already forgot about, while he's wiping his ass with 100 dollar bills, probably getting ready to drop another album that's gonna change the entire scene again, and laughing at people like this and people like me who are defending him but I don't even care because I love him

That stuff about only gangster rap being popular is true if you totally disregard tribe called quest, de la soul, Andre 3000, really just countless other rappers...
You are honestly just riding his dick super hard man, like most Kanye super fans. Get some perspective.
I am riding his dick super hard but also Tribe and everyone else you've named, have never been as mainstream or huge as Kanye has sustained for yeas now, and he's only gotten bigger

Quest is from a different era of hip hop, when it wasnโt nearly as mainstream. They paved the way for Kanye. Also they didnโt do tracks with Katy Perry and shit
the only thing delusional in this whole thread is everyone who just takes Kanye at face value and is actually deluded into taking his trolling shit like this serious
How is this notion so crazy for people? Is that not what you or I or anyone does online, here on Reddit, for fun? Now imagine if the entire world gave a shit about what you had to tweet. How is it so bizarre that he plays the confident idiot up to extreme levels. There's plenty of down to earth interviews with him that a show a softer side and he explains his persona
Because...why? If I had the resources he did, Iโd have much better things to do than play a drool-farmer on the Internet. Heโs trash, which is why he enjoys acting like trash. Youโre a fanboy so itโs hard to look at him objectively, but he is not how sane people behave. Even the majority of famous people know how to act with a semblance of grace. Kanye looks for opportunities to intentionally act graceless. It's disgusting, and lowers the bar of expectation we carry for role models in general.
I mean of course there's always exceptions but for the most part, in the mainstream lime light, who were the most popular rappers of the early 2000's and from the 90s' whose immediate influence was still apparent?
Not hip hop or RnB, just straight up rap, there's a clear divide in who those people were considered to be and who rappers are now
Probably the farthest thing from a gangster in terms of lyrical content or appearance as well as the biggest star.
I like Kanye quite a bit - he's produced and/or rapped on some of my favorite songs, but I don't think he revolutionized the game to near the level that you are saying.
Eminem was still definitely fronting this persona of being extremely violent, and extensively using drugs. I don't agree at all with "farthest thing from a gangster in terms of lyrical content or appearance." By that I have to assume you mean he's not black. Kanye pretty much undeniably brought a new perspective to POPULAR rap music that was more grounded and relatable, as well as performing in such a way as to not put on a front but instead to be mad genuine with your lyrical content. No major music critic really denies this. He paved the way for Drake, Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino, you name it.
I had just graduated HS when that album came out, I've heard it, and it was generic commercial drivel. I promise this whole "old school Kanye is so underrated" is a new phenomenon not propagated by people that had to listen to Gold Digger ad naseum. Do you think Kanye was the first rapper to write a soft song about his mom?
wtf I didn't edit it into my response, in my original comment about Kanye I specifically talk about the rap scene and how his music as affected that. I literally said rap scene rap game etc. more than once, I only thought to reiterate it to you again later on in another comment because I had figured you'd have missed me saying it before, intentionally or not. which you had so I rest my case
you can not be trying to seriously argue that Eminem never tried to give off the appearance that he was a thug ass dude not to be fucked with, and whose lyrics didn't mirror that, especially when he was first starting out. Maybe he wasn't actually that but that's how he dressed and acted and wanted to be seen, while Kanye specifically didn't even want to pretend to be that.
and also I disagree, I can't think of anyone else who has had as much or more of an influence on rap and pop music as Kanye There are other popular artists of course, but I can't think of anyone else who so sing-handedly drives the influence of music and other pop-culture, and with such vigor
For real though, I'm not really talking so much as how eminem dressed, but his entire appearance. He was a scrawny white boy, not exactly the image of a street-hardened gangster.
that he was a thug ass dude not to be fucked with, and whose lyrics didn't mirror that
Is that honestly your biggest take away from the Slim Shady LP? Give it another listen. He's not giving off the impression that he's some "thug ass dude not to be fucked with" at all.
I can't think of anyone else who so sing-handedly drives the influence of music and other pop-culture, and with such vigor
thats the annoying thing - hes a good producer/rapper. thats it. hes not revolutionary, hes not unique, and most of all he sure isnt any type of genius... rap is all about hyperbole and grandiose melodramatic bullshit and he fits right in with that. from the outside its hilarious and a little pathetic how people worship a knob-twiddling dillettante. that incredibly pretentious and shitty thing he did at the vma's years ago should have got him laughed out of the industry, but millenials are retarded. cool is dead.
Most anyone who knows anything about music, especially hip hop, would completely disagree with you. The man's a little unstable and feels like he has to remind people of his legacy.
I've been saying this for years: Kanye does crazy shit for the publicity. It's a way to get people talking about him without spending money on advertising.
Lol what. I was trying to make the point that Kanye absolutely 100% does NOT believe he is the most talented artists of all time or whatever. Only someone truly delusional would misinterpret this as that. Statements like this is how he has solidified the person he is. Bravery in bravado.
His entire image and brand is built on his god-like status. He has an album titled Yeezus for god's sake with lead singles literally calling himself God.
So by your logic you think he actually falls asleep at night believing he is literally the reincarnation of Jesus Christ?
Yeah wheels on the buss go round and round lol durr, Kanye is stupid.
People that don't get Kanye will never get Kanye. It requires looking at his lyrics critically and through the lens of his experience.

Bingo. There's talent, sure, and some musicians do display more talent than others, but at a certain point you're arguing about taste and style rather than technique.

How dare you say Mr Yeezus is a mere musician. Dude does clothes and other art things.
That's true and a good point, however if you ever follow releases of new items releasing they almost always sell out immediately. I personally don't enjoy the yeezy brand but I do admire how quickly it has grown.
Maybe red Octobers but I think the pigeon SBs had more hype
Teaflax ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 19:53:57 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Well...sure. But I think you can set a baseline of being both hugely influential, groundbreaking and hugely popular. So you could make an argument for Prince or Bowie. Kanye...not so much.
I don't know, ask a random person from Bangladesh about Prince or Bowie and they more than likely won't know who they are. If you want to talk about the greatest artist of all time you can't have it based solely on America.
Although, I'm sure everyone even in Bangladesh knows who Michael Jackson is, atleast from my experience.
I would say that Kanye checks all three of those categories. He has influenced hip-hop massively throughout the years with the albums he released while still being very popular. For example, 808s was ahead of its time and paved the way for artists like Drake to become popular. A lot of artists credit Kanye as a huge influence on them and itโs not for no reason. I'm not saying he's the GOAT but if those are your criteria then he definitely meets them.
Dultsboi ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 22:09:34 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Have you heard some of Kanyeโs early stuff? Like College Dropout or Graduation? That shit was some of the most popular shit back in the 2000โs. thatโs like judging Lil Wayne only on his post 2010 work.
Artists like Prince and Paul McCartney (and yes, I'm aware he likes Kanye, no need to remind me) got in the studio, sat down, wrote a whole bunch of stuff without outside help, had incredible voices, were able to write and play every part for every instrument and did that for decades while releasing countless classic albums.
Imo, those are better contenders for 'greatest artist of all time' than Kanye who, with each album he releases, seems to have less of an influence on the final product he releases. Over a hundred writers and producers on the last one - if he really were that great, he probably wouldn't delegate so many tasks to more capable people.
Youโre saying Kanye isnโt hugely influential, groundbreaking, and hugely popular? Those are like three of the most accurate things you could use to describe Kanye West
There are hundreds upon thousands of years of art to choose from and skipping all that to get to Kanye and crown him best ever is pretty objectively delusional, stans's opinions aside
[deleted] ยท -6 points ยท Posted at 23:28:02 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah but with the way luck goes, the greatest artist of all time probably never became famous, kept most of his work to himself and died young.
Kinda reminds me of this quote: โI am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einsteinโs brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.โ
Iโm sure the most brilliant men and women, the smartest and the best artists and everything, lived in poverty and died young in obscurity.
jeegte12 ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 16:42:35 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
uh no, that's not how it works. you can have a top 500 of the past century maybe, if not more, but there's no way to quantify it in such a way as to have a literal list of the best, in order. and even if you could, that fucking guy wouldn't be at the top.
I mean, a lot of people might disagree with him, but the fact that he has an argument at all pretty much means he's not delusional imo. I'm sure there are human beings with no relation to him that think the same thing.
[deleted] ยท -8 points ยท Posted at 16:07:07 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
His persona is and always will be in the "larger than life" category. You can't deny all the stuff he's done for contemporary music and the hip hop scene. Yeah, his stuff is usually extremely good or extremely convoluted, but delusional? Nah.
Big and influential in contemporary hip hop does not even imply "greatest artist of all time"... get yeezey's dick out of your mouth.
[deleted] ยท 14 points ยท Posted at 16:41:51 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
I don't even think he's the greatest haha. I just think Kanye is a person a lot of people like to hate. Just like Justin Bieber in the early 2010s. It's low hanging fruit that isn't necessarily accurate and describes a deeper bias against contemporary pop.
You might enjoy his music but I don't believe for one second he is intelligent enough to use irony. And if THAT is also just an act, I mean, fine, but I'm not sure to what end making everyone think you're an idiot is beneficial.
[deleted] ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 21:21:19 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
He's proven that he is a very talented musician and producer, if that isn't a sign of some sort of intelligence Idk what is.
Once again.... I haven't denied he's big, I haven't denied what he's done for hip hop (although in my unrelated personal opinion, he's taking hip hop in a bad direction).
There is still the undeniable fact that claiming to be the best in the world at a form of art is silly and delusional.
[deleted] ยท -7 points ยท Posted at 16:16:09 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Being "the best" is subjective, but what I'm saying is that he can say shit like that because he is such a big celebrity with a huge following and the record sales to back it up. I'm sure a lot of people really do think he's the best.
No-one has to be. In fact no-one can be. You can't "win" at art.
ManaZaka ยท -7 points ยท Posted at 19:51:34 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Can someone be objectively better at art than someone else? If that is the case and you follow it to it's logical conclusion than someone can "win" at art as you put it.
Ryujin35 ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 11:08:18 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Calling yourself or anybody else "the best at art" makes no sense at all and is honestly narrow-minded. How are you going to measure that? It's not like a technical skill where you can say that one person is overall more competent than everyone else to ever exist. At best you can hope to be the most successful or influential artist of your time, but that's a really bad metric if you want to measure actual talent. Obviously Kanye is pretty undisputably better at making music than, like, Jaden Smith or Playboi Carti, but once you try to argue he's objectively better than any great musician you get into subjective slap fighting really fast; it becomes obvious that different artists excel in their own niches and that there are plenty of artists with musical achievements that Kanye could never dream of topping. You could make a solid case for him being the most versatile and influential mainstream hip hop artist, but calling him the best artist ever because of that is not a sensible leap.
So Gary Glitter is famous in my country, everyone knows the name....Doesn't make him good.
And record sales don't mean shit. Look at gangnam style or friday by Rebecca black.
[deleted] ยท 23 points ยท Posted at 16:26:38 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Gangnam style? You mean the hit song by the incredibly popular PSY? Who is credited with normalizing/introducing K-pop into the western world? And you're grouping that with a song by some rich 13 year old that everyone hates and has basically vanished?
And? their record sales aren't close to Kanye's. He was arguably the best musical producer of all time...before he ever even released an album. And then he went on to also have one of the best solo careers of all time.
guys award shows are 100% legitimate and a definite good frame of reference for someone's validity as an artist. which is why nobody is allowed to be better than someone with awards.

[deleted] ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 16:47:48 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
I think he is more egotistical than delusional. Like, you're on the scene for 15 years, selling out stadiums and going platinum again and again, the people around you keep telling you how great you are, you don't think you're gonna start believing it yourself?
jeegte12 ยท 8 points ยท Posted at 16:49:12 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

edit: it's interesting that you seem to be a beacon of knowledge but I'm being downvoted (and coincidentally my previous comments that were positive are now negative). I literally have a Masters in Clinical Social Work and am licensed to actually diagnose people with mental disorders. If you had any education in mental health, you'd know that you can't diagnose a personality disorder without knowing the person for a significant amount of time.
But that doesn't matter, does it? Kanye is bad and he has NPD! Reddit told me so!
I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree man. Psychoanalysis isn't a thing anymore. and even if it were they wouldn't be able to do so without actually knowing him irl
A producer can be an artist. Brian Eno and Kanye are both great artists and both are also producers. Kanye isn't very comparable to the people you say are better. Give someone else in his style, because I can't see any arguments that he isn't the best artist in his style.
Teaflax ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 20:46:26 on February 12, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Nowhere did I say that someone can't be both artist and producer, but they're not the same thing.
And then, when you narrow it down to style, then you've sort of reduced his role from greatest artist of all time to possibly greatest producer in one niche of music. Kind of a demotion, I would say.
I don't think that being the greatest artist of all time is a reasonable thing for any one artist to be called, but the greatest artist in any category is fair to judge. Also, Kanye doesn't have a niche because a niche is small, while Kanye is part of one of the biggest subgenres (pop rap) of the biggest genre in the world (hip hop).
Teaflax ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:01:49 on February 12, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
It may be the biggest damned niche in the world, but in the grand scheme of things, it's still a niche.
And, for the record, I think Kanye has a really weak flow, so I will never consider him the greatest even in his field. Producer? Maybe - I'm not knowledgeable enough to say.
It's not a niche if it's that huge. Black metal is a niche. Industrial hip hop is a niche. Pop rap is not a niche. I understand how his flow could be thought of as weak, but I think it's great. When people say his flow is weak it generally seems to be that whoever says that thinks it's bad because it's slow.

I am a huge hip hop fan but i really don't like Kanye. I personally think hes changing hip hop for the worse. Claiming to be the best at something that is completely subjective is by definition a delusional statement. As hes affixing a systematic approach to data that cant be plotted.

I'm curious as to what you mean by him changing hip hop for the worse.
Literally everyone in the Hip Hop game does this. Rap was littered with people claiming theyre "THE BEST OF ALL TIME FOREVER W/ THE BIGGEST DICK ALSO" wayyyyy before Kanye even touched the game. Being braggadocious is just inherent in Rap. I'm not saying that it's a good thing, but claiming it's especially bad when Kanye does it is ridiculous.
The tweet is a joke. Im not saying this cus of any bias, it literally has the structure of a joke with a setup and punchline. Kanye most likely does think extremely highly of himself, but he prolly did this for shits and giggles as he usually did on his twitter. Whether it is a good joke is up to you (you obviously dont think so). However, to single out Kanye West and then claim he's an idiot for saying a joke makes your bias against him apparent.
You can prolly find a multitude of Rappers tweets saying theyre the greatest but out of all of them you chose Kanye. Not because he is an especially delusional artist in the hip hop game, but cus you personally dislike him.

Im trying my best to have a reasonable arguement here because I know a lot of people are probably spamming you with "KANYES THE BEEESSTT" rn. But dismissing me as an "Angry Fanboy" is kind of disheartening.
Kanye just doesnt belong here. Im saying this as someone who personally doesnt see all the hype behind his most recent work (including MBDTF sorry guys i tried).
In another comment you mentioned you liked J Dilla which I do as well. If J Dilla tweeted this, you wouldnt have called him delusional because we both know he definitely CAN make music.
A delusional artist, at least imo, is someone who overvalues their own art despite most people saying its not that good. I know you personally dislike Kanyes creations. You saw this picture, thought to yourself "he isnt THAT good" and posted it here. However his music is extremely popular and liked by many i.e. the PMs in your inbox at the moment.
He may be delusional as a person, but to say hes delusional as an artist just doesnt sit right with me. He has proved himself time and time again that he is in fact a very capable artist that can make critically acclaimed music. Kanye makes art and brag about it, this sub is for people who cant make art and brag about it.
Sorry, I didn't mean to come across like that, I was addressing the general response from this thread and not you directly.
I would have posted this is J Dilla if it was the same situation, because to apply a systematic approach to data that can't be plotted is illogical. You can plot a graph that shows the amount of people in a certain city but you cant do the same for much someone loves their dog..... So by a logical definition it's a delusional statement, as you have to differentiate what's factual knowable in order to do it correctly.
Also the relationship that Trump and /r/iamverysmart have is perfectly aligned with the one between Kanye and this sub.

So a guy who is super influental and probably changed the hip hop scene entirely several times and has millions of fans across the world can't call himself the best?
Once again, popularity doesn't mean he's good. J dilla was wayyyyy more influential that Kanye. Changed the Hip Hop scene wayyyyy more, also has millions of fans.
[deleted] ยท 19 points ยท Posted at 16:59:03 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Oh yeah I forgot about that time that Kanye talked about meeting Dilla and literally praising him
Neither of which are anywhere near equivalent to "greatest artist of all time". Even if influence and success where the metrics, he still wouldn't hold a candle to Elvis Presley, Micheal Jackson, The Beatles and a bunch of other popular musicians from the last 60 years.
โNeither which are anywhere near equivalent to โgreatest artist of all time.โ Even if influence and success where the metrics, he still wouldnโt hold a candle to Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and a bunch of other popular musicians from the last 400 Years.โ
Yeah, thats my point. I only had to go back a couple of decades to find more successful and influential artists in the same genre (popular music) as him, never mind all of the other great folk, classical etc... musicians throughout all of human history.... and 'artist' encompasses authors, sculptors, painters, directors, actors, etc so you've got Salvador Dali, Shakespear, Michelangelo and all the rest as well.

Even if we're super generous and say he's the best hip hop artist of all time...that's still far from being the best artist of all time, and it's still delusional of him to think so. Not that being an influential hip hop artist means shit - people these days have shit for brains and shit taste and popularity is more a sign of mediocrity than greatness.
R4INOLD ยท 12 points ยท Posted at 16:54:32 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Edit: fuck this lol, I'm in the negatives for telling someone who says being an influential hip hop artist means nothing, that they don't know shit about hip hop. Hip hop is protest music borne from struggle and resilience, it's music with deep roots and a deeper culture. Hip hop is poetry, hip hop is important. The fuck do you people get off acting like you're better than hip hop. You don't shit about hip hop. You don't know shit about music if you don't respect hip hop.

I can't believe how many upset fanboys there are in this thread. Sorry you have to deal with them. If they can't see that claiming to be "the best artist of all time" is SEVERELY DELUSIONAL then there is no hope. Literally anybody who makes that claim is delusional.
If you actually listened to a single song youโd see heโs a deeply flawed, insecure guy. Thatโs part of why the act is so funny/amusing.
thatโs not a reason to hate him as a person though. Itโs a very extreme reaction.
[deleted] ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 04:21:51 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
It just gets old after awhile.. what did kanye do this time? grab the mic? say mean thing about people. etc. I've listened to his albums and i know hes a great musician, but his act turned me off to him. All i know of him is his act. And no thanks. I wont buy his music anymore because of the act. I dont really support people that are so negative about things. Like the whole getting on stage and saying someone doesnt deserve something. Just clap and move on man. Like i loved Becks reaction to him.. he was so positive and funny about it.
That was one thing. Many, many years ago. And they were on good terms afterwards because it was a setup she was in on.
What mean stuff?
And if all you know is his act, youโve been wilfully ignorant then. If youโve listened to his music, youโd know heโs just not his act.
But to say all he is is negative, and you can bring up one thing from a very long time ago, youโre just reaching dude. Not even a Kanye Stan, barely a fan, but people hating him for nothing is stupid. All the outraged people in this comment section are ridiculous.

Because usually with a sub title that specific, it's about making fun of that culture. For example, since oldpeoplefacebook is about making fun of old people on Facebook, I assumed blackpeopletwitter is about making fun of black people on Twitter. I bet it was at one point, but no, can't have that.

One is the most important person in the world.
The other is just the president of the USA.
Of course if one says something stupid id doesn't matter as much as if it were the other.
Kanye: "I am the best human who has or ever will exist and I laugh at the futility of absolutely everything in existence that isn't me. Everyone else might as well have never been born. You are all pointless and beneath me. I would rather have this planet all to myself, or possibly share it with copies of myself as I am undeniably the greatest gift to mankind and you are all lucky that I don't simply will you out of time and space with my godlike powers. I am that fucking good. I am the almighty Kanye West. Me, ME!, MMMEEEEEEE!"
Reddit: "Yeah but he is good. You can't deny how influential and creative he is."
If you genuinely think he thinks this way and doesn't say this as part of his gimmick, you might as well think wrestlers aren't acting. He's pretty self-aware and vulnerable in his lyrics and posts like this are no different than most other rappers bragging about banging 20 chicks a day with their foot long dicks.

No, someone does not have to be the best ever. You can't be the best at an art form because art is subjective, for one thing.
For another, even if you could be the best, Kanye is not the greatest of all time. There have been plenty of artists throughout time who were more influential than him.
"Kanye West is among the most acclaimed musicians of the 21st century. He is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 32 million albums and 100 million digital downloads worldwide. He has won a total of 21 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most awarded artists of all time and the most Grammy-awarded artist to have debuted in the 21st century. Three of his albums have been included and ranked on Rolling Stone's 2012 update of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. He has also been included in a number of Forbes annual lists. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2015."
I dont know how you rank being a "good" artist, or being one of the best. Since im a rather huge kanye fanboy i think im rather baised. But factually he is one of the biggest and the most awarded artist in our time. Saying he is delusional falls rather flat. He might not pander to everyone, but hey. You can feel what you want :).
Never said he wasn't big....for the third time, I think saying you are the best is in itself, delusional. That's not aimed at
Kanye, that would be true with anyone else claimed to be the literal be all and end all of artists. It could be someone I like and I would still have posted this.
i think you should consider that his tweet was meant to describe a goal, not a boast. "being the greatest artist of all time" reads to me like something he wants to strive for, which is totally awesome and i think everyone should have something like that
But like most of the people you would consider possibly the best of all time do...
jeegte12 ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 03:50:11 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
I would never call anything as subjective as an artist or a piece of work the best of all time. You can't say something like that about art. It's not a sport or a competition.
Wait, I'm confused. Are you doing the "only watch the VMAs fiasco and then follow what the Internet says" meme or the "I'm a contrarian, hip hop sucks" meme?
[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 00:33:57 on February 16, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Or could it just be that he thinks Kanye isn't a talented musician? People have different tastes. I don't think he's talented either, I think he got lucky. To each their own.
[deleted] ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 04:02:45 on February 16, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
He has cultural significance regardless of personal taste, like the Beatles. He doesn't have the richest voice or badass guitar skills or super poetic lyrics, but he took the freshest innovations in hip hop and influenced an important shift in mainstream music. Basically, he's super popular. The definition of pop culture. Lol.
Which hip hop artist do you think deserves the title of the best?
[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 12:15:06 on February 16, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
If you're comparing what Kanye fuckin West has done to the Beatles in terms of cultural significance, I think we're done here. Not saying Kanye isn't succesful but Beatles were a world wide sensation while if you look at Kanye's succes, it's very limited outside of the US.
Kanye is a succesful artist but so is Nikki Minaj and Miley Cyrus. I don't think either of the 3 are anywhere near the Beatles, I think all 3 will be more or less forgotten in 20 years from now.
[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:47:51 on February 16, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Obviously, duh, don't assume I'm stupid.
One thing though. Kanye started as a producer and knew what he was doing (at first). Nikki and Miley are basically paid entertainers, filling a slot, and didn't over and over dominate the charts.
And you don't like the genre, whatever, it's not my favorite either.
He literally said he knows nothing about hip hop or the VMA fiasco so I'm pretty sure it's the former, not the latter. It's become a meme to make fun of Kanye without really actually knowing anything about him, and he honestly doesn't really deserve the hate. Most people who like rap or modern music admit that Kanye's talented, even if they don't like him. I would recommend you research Kanye's backstory and his style if you think he's not talented and just got lucky. Sure, luck had something to do with it, but in that case literally every famous person is just lucky. Kanye's famous for always being innovative and going outside the box in rap.
Sorry for ranting about something you could probably care less about, but I don't like it when people base their opinion off of the typical Reddit anti-Kanye circle jerk.
[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 12:08:45 on February 16, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Yeah for sure, I don't like the hate circlejerk and I absolutely don't hate him myself. I just don't think he's that great from a music standpoint, that's all. Just not my taste I guess.

I used to be a UGE Kanye fan, but I haven't listened to him for a while. Try to keep in mind that he's such a great artist because of his creative vision and the amount of creative control he has over his projects, not his raw rapping ability. Some of his verses on TLOP ruined the absolutely beautiful production that he managed, especially on Wolves. I might get downvoted for that opinion.
Here are a few of my favorites off of each album:
College Dropout:
We Don't Care
All Falls Down
Spaceship
School Spirit
Through the Wire (His jaw was wired shut when he recorded this)
Late Registration
Heard 'Em Say
Touch the Sky
Roses
We Major
Hey Mama
Gone (His best verse)
Graduation
Good Morning
Can't Tell Me Nothing
Flashing Lights
Everything I Am
808's and Heartbreak (my favorite album)
Say You Will
Amazing
Love Lockdown
Street Lights
Bad News
Coldest Winter
Pinocchio Story
MBDTF
Watch The Throne
No Church in the Wild
Ni**as in Paris
Otis
Made in America
HAM
Cruel Summer
Yeezus - It's like 30 minutes, try to listen to it all. Second favorite album.
On Sight
Black Skinhead
Hold my Liquor
Blood on the Leaves
TLOP (my least favorite)
Ultralight Beam (my favorite individual song)
Waves
Wolves/Frank's Track
30 Hours
No More Parties in LA
MISC
FourFiveSeconds
Only One

Also, his music is REALLY varied. Compare College Dropout/Late Registration's soul-sampling production with Graduation's party rap and 808's robotic synths/drum machines. Compare MDTF's large-scale, operatic rap with Yeezus' industrial, grimy rap and TLOP'S radio rap. It's crazy.

How is this notion so crazy for people? Is that not what you or I or anyone does online, here on Reddit, for fun? Now imagine if the entire world gave a shit about what you had to tweet. How is it so bizarre that he plays the confident idiot up to extreme levels. There's plenty of down to earth interviews with him that a show a softer side and he explains his persona
uneasylistening ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 11:09:04 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

Not hip hop or RnB, just straight up rap, there's a clear divide in who those people were considered to be and who rappers are now
YesButConsiderThis ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 00:26:40 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Eminem??
Probably the farthest thing from a gangster in terms of lyrical content or appearance as well as the biggest star.
I like Kanye quite a bit - he's produced and/or rapped on some of my favorite songs, but I don't think he revolutionized the game to near the level that you are saying.
TheC0mm0nEnemy ยท 35 points ยท Posted at 01:04:09 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

Do you think Kanye was the first rapper to write a soft song about his mom?

you can not be trying to seriously argue that Eminem never tried to give off the appearance that he was a thug ass dude not to be fucked with, and whose lyrics didn't mirror that, especially when he was first starting out.
YesButConsiderThis ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 01:56:30 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Yes because transition lenses screams thug.
For real though, I'm not really talking so much as how eminem dressed, but his entire appearance. He was a scrawny white boy, not exactly the image of a street-hardened gangster.
Is that honestly your biggest take away from the Slim Shady LP? Give it another listen. He's not giving off the impression that he's some "thug ass dude not to be fucked with" at all.
C'mon man, this can't be real.

thats the annoying thing - hes a good producer/rapper. thats it. hes not revolutionary, hes not unique, and most of all he sure isnt any type of genius... rap is all about hyperbole and grandiose melodramatic bullshit and he fits right in with that. from the outside its hilarious and a little pathetic how people worship a knob-twiddling dillettante. that incredibly pretentious and shitty thing he did at the vma's years ago should have got him laughed out of the industry, but millenials are retarded. cool is dead.

Popularity isn't opinion. Neither is critical acclaim. Influence is easy to argue as well, and Kanye has all 3 in spades.
TraxOnDaRocks ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 21:15:28 on January 22, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

Big following and record sales ?
So Gary Glitter is famous in my country, everyone knows the name....Doesn't make him good.
And record sales don't mean shit. Look at gangnam style or friday by Rebecca black.
[deleted] ยท 23 points ยท Posted at 16:26:38 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Gangnam style? You mean the hit song by the incredibly popular PSY? Who is credited with normalizing/introducing K-pop into the western world? And you're grouping that with a song by some rich 13 year old that everyone hates and has basically vanished?

Teaflax ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 09:44:46 on January 25, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Producer =/= artist.
But in answer to your question, however tangential, just off the top of my head: MF Doom, DJ Premier, Bomb Squad & Timbaland.
xfritz5375 ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 13:56:00 on February 12, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Also, I forgot Prince Paul.
xfritz5375 ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 20:57:33 on February 12, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Producer? Maybe - I'm not knowledgeable enough to say.
xfritz5375 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:14:22 on February 12, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Teaflax ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:13:03 on February 13, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

I am a huge hip hop fan but i really don't like Kanye. I personally think hes changing hip hop for the worse. Claiming to be the best at something that is completely subjective is by definition a delusional statement. As hes affixing a systematic approach to data that cant be plotted.

MrSaturn200 ยท 57 points ยท Posted at 17:32:42 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

MrSaturn200 ยท 21 points ยท Posted at 18:10:47 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
EDIT: Meant to say J Dilla oops.
๐๏ธ Hey_-_-_Zeus ยท -2 points ยท Posted at 21:23:21 on January 18, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

Not that being an influential hip hop artist means shit - people these days have shit for brains and shit taste and popularity is more a sign of mediocrity than greatness.

boi you don't even know what hip hop is.

PmYourWittyAnecdote ยท -2 points ยท Posted at 03:37:59 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
Why is he hated though?
The amount of people who donโt get Kanye in this thread, and in general, is crazy. Itโs not difficult.

PmYourWittyAnecdote ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 04:17:16 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)
But itโs an act, itโs a really obvious joke.
PmYourWittyAnecdote ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 04:24:18 on January 19, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

Not saying Kanye isn't succesful but Beatles were a world wide sensation while if you look at Kanye's succes, it's very limited outside of the US.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2016/03/02/kanye-wests-album-has-only-charted-in-one-country/#26d82ddd718c
And you don't like the genre, whatever, it's not my favorite either.
zenith654 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 05:12:52 on February 16, 2018 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah for sure, I don't like the hate circlejerk and I absolutely don't hate him myself. I just don't think he's that great from a music standpoint, that's all. Just not my taste I guess.

Delete this low effort nonsense. "Harharhar does le anyone else hate Kanye West" is so 2005.

I mean heโs kind of a musical genius. I wouldnโt say that heโs delusional.

The tweet doesn't say "musical genius", it says "greatest artist of all time".
I can name a few musical geniuses on the top of my mind.

This is fake, Iโm 99% sure Kanye doesnโt have a twitter account.
Edit: just saw the date. He had a Twitter account at the time but it was made private or deleted afterwards.

Itโs funny because I know a lot of people who called Kanye the GOAT up until they found out he didnโt agree with their political opinions.
