While at university I sat in a lecture with a person I had not met before. Being a new course where I didn't know anyone we chatted and he was very friendly and I would've hung out with him except for one thing. He had large plugs in his ears and they were infected or poorly cleaned and it REEKED of rotting meat. It was horrible. It was the worst smell I'd ever encountered coming from a living creature. I had to avoid him after that, and I once caught a hurt look on his face as I passed by him to sit somewhere else but the memory of that smell haunted me.
Ugh, that's disgusting. Honestly there's always a slight funky smell but usually not unless you actually take out the plugs to, you know, clean your fucking ear. When I got my nose pierced and it hadn't fully healed, I would occasionally catch a whiff of that smell and it would kill me inside. How someone could walk around oblivious to that is baffling.
Right? Could you imagine being a girl and meeting this nice cute guy and not noticing his ears. Then one night you go over to his dorm to watch a movie. He puts his arm around you and you nuzzle into the crock of his arm...only to BLASTED with not only that crustastic sight but the smell out 2 demon worlds colliding and melting into one ferocious Hell spawn of rotting human ear.
What do you do? Try to ignore it? Fake an emergency phone call? Ugh...
Oh god I'm too honest not to say anything. I'd probably start off with, "no offense but your ears smell." I am not enduring that shit to spare your feelings. It's gross and hopefully a wake up call.

I didn't say that. If an artist paints a canvas solid blue - no form, no shapes, no other colours, no brushwork, no textures - sorry, but I call bullshit. But I admire how the artist managed to spin the work to be sold and hung in a collection.
what if its a really nice blue you like? ha, I know where you are going. some folks put some brush strokes down at random on a big canvas, call it 'summer rain,' and sell it for $800. I agree that I would be turned off if any artist was trying to pass off a solid blue canvas as being worth more due to some deeper meaning, but, if you are speaking objectively about the blue canvas, you cannot deny that a canvas of a solid color could be aesthetically pleasing. If you like any colors at all, it would have to be.
what art qualifies as abstract to you then? as in, what is the correct use of the word? I don't find a lot of abstract art appealing, but I'm not sure I've seen the word so widely misused as you've described.
Art that is actually abstract. Its not that If I dont like their work it isnt abstract, if it isnt abstract then it isnt abstract. I see it misused almost every time I hear somebody describe theur own work as abstract. I dont hear or see people describing their art as abstract often, but when they do, more often then not, by a large majority, it isn't abstract.
I see the struggles of man against conformity and social acceptance, the endless battle of individualism while looking identical to everyone surrounding you and a stretched earlobe.
If it's not a gauged ear I'll stand fucking. There's a hair line visible on the back side and a mole on the front size near the jawbone.

If it's not a gauged ear I'll stand fucking. There's a hair line visible on the back side and a mole on the front size near the jawbone.

I like this type of stuff but I just don't think the picture is visually appealing, that's the one crucial step a lot of these "abstract picture" people take.
