Always thought it had too many parts for it to catch on with drunk-ass hockey fans, but everyone always seemed to sober up for it...does that happen at every hockey game?

I think if you had compared Ireland and England's differences to Canada and America's differences, you wouldn't be getting as much of a hard time.

As it stands, I'd say that we're far more different than comparing seperate states, for pretty much the variety of reasons previously stated by others.

And it's not so much 'argue over differences' rather than Ireland being lumped with the United Kingdom which, considering our tense history with each other, can be seen as insulting, or at the very least, annoying enough to point it out to stop it from being repeated.

Yeah, mate here's what you're missing, Europeans as a whole are far more well-travelled than Americans. I'm Irish and I've been to nine different states, at least one in every region. Not going to list them all here but for the south, LA, for pacific north-west WA, for New England MA, I've been bang in the middle with IL etc. and from what I witnessed (I lived in America for a year), you guys are fucking far more similar than we Irish people are to British people. So when an Irishman says you don't know what you're talking about because you haven't been here, and you try shooting the same accusation right back, it's not going to work because we have been there lad. Onstage, the competition is about to begin. Arthur looks around nervously.

Arthur: I don't know if I can do this, Buster. I don't feel well.

Buster: C'mon, you'll do great buddy. Did you stretch your stomach out like you're supposed to?

Arthur: Wait, did you eat before this?

Buster: Not much, just four hamburgers, five slices of pizza, and three milkshakes. That was breakfast. For lunch I had...

Arthur grimaces and looks down at the crowd. He sees someone younger looking and realizes it's DW! She has her iPhone out and its pointing directly at him. Oh no, he thinks, this isn't helping at all.

GET SET, GO! Arthur realizes that he almost missed the start. He looks down at the enormous blueberry pie, contributed by his dad of course. He looks over and Buster is already a quarter of the way through. Arthur takes a deep breath and takes a single bite then another. He already felt full.

Down in the crowd, Muffy noticed that Arthur was way behind everyone else.

Muffy: Hey Arthur, you know the goal is to eat the fastest, right?

The whole crowd laughs and begins booing Arthur. Arthur feels his cheeks turn bright red. He feebly tries to eat another bite but he's hit with a wave of nausea. Arthur gets up to leave but not before he spits up into the vomit tarp. As he turns to leave, he slips and falls in covering his Yellow shirt in vomit. The whole crowd laughs even louder than before at him.

Binky: You fell down! You fell down!

The whole crowd begins to chant: You fell down! You fell down!

Arthur looks to see even Professor Ratburn is laughing and chanting with the crowd. DW is filming excitingly.

DW: I can't wait to put this Facebook! Everyone's going to see it!

Arthur sighs as he's helped out by the volunteer helpers. This is the worst birthday I ever had, he says quietly.

It's freshers week in Ireland. Basically, it's a piss up week "welcoming" the newbies to 3rd level education (Ireland has Primary School 4/5-12/13 years of age, Secondary 12/13-18/19 years of age and College 18/19+) So this lad is no doubt starting his first run of college, probably around 18 years of age and will now be know as the guy who fell into a pool of vomit. It's ok though, in February you have RAG week, and everyone ends up in a pool of vomit..Or sets fires to cars in Sligo..

The iron stomach thing isn't a ritual in colleges. At least it wasn't when I was in college. They tend to have different events on each year. Although, seeing as this has gone viral, it will probably be a yearly event now. Freshers Week itself is a great idea. It's a chance to meet new people, get to know the town/city you're now living in. Many of the students are living away from home for the first time, so the idea is to make them feel welcome. But, been 18 & away from home, the week usually ends up with getting drunk and riding.

For some context, this is an iron stomach competition. People go on stage and eat and drink disgusting things, and the last person to vomit wins a prize. The trough he fell into was what people were vomiting into. This happened in front of a large crowd of people who he's going to be in college with for the next few years. The preliminary round of this competition involves downing two cans of beers, and there's more alcohol throughout, plus it's freshers week. It's much more likely that he didn't have the mental faculties at the time to register the fall fast enough. Plus, if you knew the university and the competition, you'd know it wasn't fake.
