While I enjoy pointing and laughing at these creepy PMs as much as the next guy, I agree with you that context is sort of key to these things.

The context isn't key though. Sure now you know a bit more about the creeper but his behavior is the same. Usually when people ask questions like 'was there more to this? Why didn't you reply to them?' it's because they want to criticize OP and how they acted, not laugh more at the creeper. That's why remove questions like that :)

We sometimes allow first names so long as there's no way to identify the creeper from it. So in this case there must be thousands of Marks in the world, there's no way to work out who he is from that. If you could also see a location and an age though then it would definitely need to be covered up :)

It's a pet peeve of mine too. It's like "I'm not racist but [blatant racism]" (incidentally another Reddit favorite). Like, dude, we can usually tell when you're really arguing for the sake of argument or when you truly believe what you're saying, dressing the latter up like the former doesn't absolve you.
To say nothing of the fact that not every post needs a Devil's Advocate.
