i unironically like surreal memes, like the actual ones, not ones that straight up put the meme man face on something and spell a word wrong. The r/dankmemes versions of surreal memes are just absolutely terrible.

Idk i just find them and if its actually good sometimes I'll save it. There's the video I'm Very Hungry by Timotainment on youtube that is sorta what i look for in a surreal meme. Not just any image with a meme man head on it.
Now that i think about it I really like that channel. Huh.
Now like every surreal meme creator hopped on the meme man trend but y'know thats just how the world works. Doesn't mean it's good.

Exactly, I think it all started with that "enslaved moist" meme. It was fun. Original and dumb in a good kind of way. But then it became a format and the overuse of the same joke.
The "stonks" variations have actually ruined surreal memes, Meme Man was originally an icon of actual surreal memes like u/Timotainment's videos on youtube

Meme man was funny before stonks went mainstream. It's like ok boomer with it being funny in subcultures before everyone knows about it and is repeating it.
I dont think that meme man memes are particularly incredible but i think its a pretty nice gateway for people to get into surrealist comedy which is my favorite type and it helps that its much older usage in memes such as octahedron and the "release the colors" episodes are pretty good quality intermediate points before getting into the real deep surrealism.
Its kinda nice to have a rather accesible figure for getting into it so that the communities may grow

well a facebook page called 'Special meme fresh' used a bad 3d model of a face and that became meme man.
people saw it and thought it amazing so they started with surreal memes and such, and then it devolved into what it is now.
