Ah yes, a sub dedicated to complaining about powermods who lock bigoted threads. I'm sure the comments there are nothing but civil discussion of racism, sexism, and LGBT people.
They shouldnt lock the thread because of a few dicks. As a mod they should actually fulfill there role and moderate. Not just lock the damn thread.
Its like if one dude in a town is a terrorist and you bomb the entire fucking neighborhood. So many interesting discussion habe been stopped because of moderators that are too lazy to jusy delete the few bad comments and hand out a few bans

I mean, how valuable are these supposed discussions lmao if a post gets to the front page, are we gonna pretend that Reddit will stay civil and/or mods gotta delete the hundreds/thousands of comments from people outside the community coming in from the front page?
If mods are power hungry and lock for no reason/for laziness, ok sure mod bad.
But I'm very suspicious of people who whine about thread locking only because they are "concerned" that Reddit can't have a "deep and meaningful" conversation about a black person committing a crime, a woman lying about rape, or a trans woman athlete. Because of course we know those conversations are all respectful and full of good points such as: black people are natural criminals, rape survivors are lying, and trans people are mentally ill.
Just because someone is concerned with those issues it does not mean that they believe them to be universally the case. Youโre making far more generalizations and assumptions than a civilized discussion should ever have.

Well firstly, that attitude is one of the biggest threats to civil discourse. How can anyone have a genuine discussion if everyone says itโs impossible, or even punishes them for doing so? Itโs clear to me you have no genuine desire to preserve civil discourse because you miss the entire point: to actually understand each other. Even if someone is a full-on bigoted misogynistic neo-nazi, they should still be granted an opportunity to have their voices heard if it means they can hear ours. Everyone has their reasons to believe what they do; genuine, civil discussion (ideally) sorts out the bad reasons from the good, since they naturally just donโt stand up under scrutiny.
The problem is that no one wants to honestly admit that they are capable of changing their minds. Keep in mind that doing so doesnโt mean that anyone has to change their mind, but if such a thing is not even possible for either party, then thereโs no point in continuing. Such a person should be completely ignored, not attacked or punished, as trying to reason with or bully them is futile at that point, and their radicalism will only be driven further.

Otherwise I've had plenty of pleasant discussions, even about more polarizing or easy to escalate topics. Just try. Be civil and pleasant to be around and you should attract other people looking for civil exchanges.

Late reply but next time you see a thread like that, use the good ol unreddit and have a look for yourself, 9 times out of 10 it's a few heavily downvoted obvious troll accounts.
That subโs head mod FreeSpeechWarrior is just a powermod-wannabe. Donโt trust them.
Sometimes ago they found out that despite the fast growing of that subreddit, r/watchredditdie wasnโt named in the top 50 growing communities. Freespeechwarrior, wanting to expand the community which he had control over, decided to โcensor every bad words and had Automod literally purged every single comments with the reason pending for approval, so that the communities might had a chance at being shown as top growing sub again. The admin clearly had back deals with FreeSpeechWarrior and, as you may have guessed, people left r/watchredditdie to join or create similar subreddit like r/reclassified (Iโm not naming this sub as a recommendation, there are words that it is compromised by the powermods, this is just an example). Time flew by and now people forget about how hypocritical r/watchredditdie is and how bootlicking FreeSpeechWarrior can be.
So, the best way to fight against Reddit is stop using it. There is no other way.
