I know damn well Iโm gonna get called a nerd but I really wanted to bring this up because colonial America is way more interesting than what pretty much every history book says it is.
Even today almost nobody understands that thereโs more to media than just the surface, so when there wasnโt even basic schooling, I donโt think the average person did.
To that I'd add that If you want to kill clearly antagonistic aliens and being completely justified in it while using weapons of mass destruction and walking tanks, you should play EDF, probably 4.1

I am actually pretty confident there was at least one guy who was writing in letters mad about this. These types of people have always existed.
Ocean acidification has destroyed all the natural shells. She had a stockpile from the old days. She sells them to parents who want to recreate the experience for their kids. Itโs not the same and everyone knows it. Some kids are young enough to be excited because their parents seem excited, some are nice enough to fake it, and some are just watching for a really good oil blob to sell to the refinery so they can eat this week.
The first recorded instance of this song being sung by American Soldiers was after the British were defeated in battle (can't remember which one off the top of my head).
Basically, them singing Yankee Doodle was a way of saying "HAHA YOU GOT YOUR ASSES KICKED BY A BUNCH OF HILLBILLIES!"

I donโt think thatโs the point? I think the equivalent would be more along the lines of you being a fascist and loving Metallica because you believe their music supports fascism.

Exactly, the armor the wolf soldiers wear in the Wolf Brigade looks cool as hell, but you can't tell anyone that because you'll just get called a Nazi. Same thing with the empire from Star Wars, the Helghast from Killzone, Sturm from Advance Wars, the Enclave from Fallout, and so many other things, you can't appreciate an antagonist's intimidating design anymore because everyone accuses you of supporting the ideology.
Daily reminder that Colonel Autumn did nothing wrong and was explicitly against poisoning the purifier. That's all the presidentbot, whose orders the soldiers ignore as soon as Autumn told them to. It's actually really weird that Bethesda set it up so that assuming you blow up Eden at Raven Rock the Enclave would have done exactly what the Brotherhood ends up doing but didn't give you a choice between them.
Ehhhh I meaaan.... That whole plot thread feels like it was thrown into the game at the last second because the devs needed a fight within the Enclave base so uhh "Quick, Autumn betrays the president and wants the player dead, also he now has a completely different agenda than the president, let him just throw his men at the player and the robots". It's just so undercoocked I refuse to believe this "Both sides want the same thing actually, just both want to be in control of it" was the idea from the start. We don't know about Autumn's actual plans because there's little to no explanation. For all we know, the Autumn Enclave could have been more pragmatic and somewhat constructive, or maybe they'd just hoard all the water and hold it above people like Immortan Joe did in MadMax or test people for "genetic purity" and execute the "impure". It's a cool headcanon and an idea for an alternate universe within Fallout that this specific Enclave wouldn't be comically evil but I just don't buy it because there's too many variables we can't know.

I never get a chance to mention this, but it's interesting how the armor changes in each Kerberos movie even though they take place in the same timeline. Stray Dog (the best version of the protect gear imo) is supposed to take place right before The Red Spectacles, which takes place in the 90s, and the same suit has a different look from the gear we see in TRS's opening to when we see it later in the timeline in SD.ย
It also ignores that the main character wearing the suit used a MG34 in TRS when he flead the country, but in SD that was changed to a MG42.ย
Wolf Brigade having different armor isn't a big problem since it takes place in the 60s giving plenty of time for new armor to come out.ย
Just making shit up. Iโve never seen anyone accused of supporting the ideology of those villains for enjoying their fashion and Iโm terminally online so I shouldโve seen that by now. At most theyโre sometimes told, โIf youโre enjoying their look, the designers did their jobโ.
The people that do get accused of supporting the villainsโ ideology are the ones that sincerely believe the villains of the story are heroic e.g. brainlets who watch the entirety of Breaking Bad yet still think that Walter White did it all to support his family.

Except the Americans knew what the song was about, they just reclaimed it as a badge of honor. They took the positive traits of the doodle stereotype and ran with them, while downplaying the negative parts. Sort of like how queer people reclaimed the word โqueerโ or how the Democratic Party started using a donkey as its symbol after Jackson was called an ass. But whatโs important in all these cases is that people did in fact know the original meaning of these songs or phrases. They didnโt just pretend that everyone was using it positively or read a message that completely contradicts the work from it. When theyโre reclaiming songs, theyโre engaging with the material and itโs original meaning. Thatโs media literacy.

Exactly, the armor the wolf soldiers wear in the Wolf Brigade looks cool as hell, but you can't tell anyone that because you'll just get called a Nazi. Same thing with the empire from Star Wars, the Helghast from Killzone, Sturm from Advance Wars, the Enclave from Fallout, and so many other things, you can't appreciate an antagonist's intimidating design anymore because everyone accuses you of supporting the ideology.

Daily reminder that Colonel Autumn did nothing wrong and was explicitly against poisoning the purifier. That's all the presidentbot, whose orders the soldiers ignore as soon as Autumn told them to. It's actually really weird that Bethesda set it up so that assuming you blow up Eden at Raven Rock the Enclave would have done exactly what the Brotherhood ends up doing but didn't give you a choice between them.

Ehhhh I meaaan.... That whole plot thread feels like it was thrown into the game at the last second because the devs needed a fight within the Enclave base so uhh "Quick, Autumn betrays the president and wants the player dead, also he now has a completely different agenda than the president, let him just throw his men at the player and the robots". It's just so undercoocked I refuse to believe this "Both sides want the same thing actually, just both want to be in control of it" was the idea from the start. We don't know about Autumn's actual plans because there's little to no explanation. For all we know, the Autumn Enclave could have been more pragmatic and somewhat constructive, or maybe they'd just hoard all the water and hold it above people like Immortan Joe did in MadMax or test people for "genetic purity" and execute the "impure". It's a cool headcanon and an idea for an alternate universe within Fallout that this specific Enclave wouldn't be comically evil but I just don't buy it because there's too many variables we can't know.

I never get a chance to mention this, but it's interesting how the armor changes in each Kerberos movie even though they take place in the same timeline. Stray Dog (the best version of the protect gear imo) is supposed to take place right before The Red Spectacles, which takes place in the 90s, and the same suit has a different look from the gear we see in TRS's opening to when we see it later in the timeline in SD.ย
It also ignores that the main character wearing the suit used a MG34 in TRS when he flead the country, but in SD that was changed to a MG42.ย
Wolf Brigade having different armor isn't a big problem since it takes place in the 60s giving plenty of time for new armor to come out.ย

Just making shit up. Iโve never seen anyone accused of supporting the ideology of those villains for enjoying their fashion and Iโm terminally online so I shouldโve seen that by now. At most theyโre sometimes told, โIf youโre enjoying their look, the designers did their jobโ.
The people that do get accused of supporting the villainsโ ideology are the ones that sincerely believe the villains of the story are heroic e.g. brainlets who watch the entirety of Breaking Bad yet still think that Walter White did it all to support his family.

Like people who tout Bioshock as an aplitical (and therefore good) game, or even think that Bioshock's message is right-wing, as if it isn't obviously satirizing libertarian-capitalist ideas.

Except the Americans knew what the song was about, they just reclaimed it as a badge of honor. They took the positive traits of the doodle stereotype and ran with them, while downplaying the negative parts. Sort of like how queer people reclaimed the word โqueerโ or how the Democratic Party started using a donkey as its symbol after Jackson was called an ass. But whatโs important in all these cases is that people did in fact know the original meaning of these songs or phrases. They didnโt just pretend that everyone was using it positively or read a message that completely contradicts the work from it. When theyโre reclaiming songs, theyโre engaging with the material and itโs original meaning. Thatโs media literacy.
What people complain about on the internet would be the equivalent of someone saying โYankee doodle was actually originally written to praise Americans and is about a big strong alpha soldier dominating his British enemiesโ or something. Thatโs wrong and media illiterate.
