We've know it's all in his head and that level of OCD, paranoia, whatever the diagnosis is, is always caused by trauma. It has to be revealed soon and most likely it's linked to Jimmy. I'm not saying it's gonna necessarily make Chuck sympathetic, but it's gonna be a bombshell.

This. I love how BCS takes more time with its character development. BB was never known to be a fast paced show, but at this point in BB, Walt was much further down the spiral than Jimmy is now. And maybe that's because Walt's spiral leads to something far more dangerous than Jimmy's does, but I really enjoy how BCS takes the slow cooking aproach from BB (no pun intended) and dials it up to eleven, without ever letting the story coming to a halt.

In fairness, the main character of BB was a monster and a deeply flawed one at that. I think a big takeaway of BB was the flexibility in morality. But yes, Jimmy is infinitely more sympathetic than any character on BB (and that of course includes Saul Goodman).

Symbolism in film is intense man. You could even go further and say the direction in which they walked off meant something, as left is usually analogous to sinister. Or layman's terms, not right.

I always have trouble telling if its the cinematographer thinking it would be cool looking or they thought it compliments the deeper meaning for both breaking bad and better call saul; it happens so consistantly that it cant be a coincidence. I expect to see that level of thought put into films because they have genrally have more thought put into each second of screen time but doing that on a show is incredible. I hope to see more thought like this in other visual mediums like graphic novels and video games.

There is a lot of symbolism in the cinematography of the BB-universe. Some of it is genuinely beautiful, and I love some of the poetry in the images. It massively increases the rewatch value.

The only show I know of which does this subtle symbolism better is Game of Thrones. The scene of Tommen's suicide, for instance, is just perfect.

Nah- no way that it was meaningless. If Vince Gilligan is a part of it, it was incredibly well thought-out and very intentional. Everything he does is so layered and sets the stage for the future, butterfly effect.

the hardest thing about "symbolism" in breaking bad and BCS is Vince has admitted many times they make it up as they go. So the season is still being written when these episodes are being shot. So it's very hard to say, this will represent A, because not even Vice knows what will happen 3 or 4 episodes from now.

Well, it's the same series interwoven plotlines. Clearly in BrBa Mike is common to Saul and Gus. I bet Saul doesn't know who Gus is, but their interests clearly have some overlap.

Also, in the first BrBa episode we see Saul, when he is kidnapped he is screaming "it was Ignacio!" thinking it's the cartel who grabbed him.

We've already met Ignacio in BCS, and he's around a lot but goes by his nickname, spoiler?.

So I think we were always heading this direction, even if I'm not quite sure what the direction is aside from Saul, Mike, Gus, and cartel players getting tied up in knots while Jimmy becomes Saul.

I was nervous especially when the woman and her child were trying to walk out and one of Hector's thugs stopped them? I thought the shit would be going down.

The part that really had me going was when he walked behind the counter with the soda. I thought he was going to dump it on the cash registers, or destroy something or hurt someone...yeesh.

I think that may have been symbolic of how Hector is now in Gus's world but doesn't realize it. Gus played him right into handing over his contraband shipments to him, all the while Hector peacocks around Los Pollos Hermanos like he owns the place.

It's highlighting Hector's crassness and arrogance in a playing field he's losing in.

I kind of expected to see Lydia first, though I guess the whole thing of setting up the franchise and laundry and whatnot would have had to have been cooking for a good ten years before BCS starts off.

That tension was unreal. My wife came in the room while I was watching it and just laughed when I said I couldn't handle the tension. She's one of those that prefers "Lord of the Rings" to more realistic shit like BB and CBS. :/

Same thing happened with BrBa. I think when the storyline really heats up, like BrBa in season 5, the show will get even more popular. Really, as long as it doesn't get cancelled or anything, I don't mind how many people watch it.

I'm a big fan of BB and BCS. However, I think what we love so much about the show is what makes it hard for others to get hyped on. For example Hector doing all this, it weighs so much more because we know all the attached character's destiny.

In other words, I greatly enjoy how deep the story line is. However maybe that might also be what's preventing the big mainstream hype train from taking off.

I always wondered that too. My brother tried watching it when it first aired but felt the pace was too slow and thought it was boring. The pacing adds something to it though and there is always a reason for it. I actually like BCS a little better than Breaking Bad, but then again I love Saul's character and seeing the backstory to all of these major characters from Breaking Bad is incredible.

It's not as popular because you need to have watched Breaking Bad to really appreciate how great the show is. The core audience is limited to the committed audience of Breaking Bad; those who have watched all five seasons and still wanted more, not just those who binged through it as background noise cause it was the "hip" show at the time. You really can't expect a substantial amount of people to watch Better Call Saul without having seen Breaking Bad.

All of my coworkers who loved BrBa say Better Call Saul is too slow for them (or their spouse lol) to stay interested. If they see it as slow or boring, then I guess it's just not their cup of tea ^{and I totally judge them for it.}

Im wondering the same thing as well. I've talked to a couple of friends who loved breaking bad and I tell them how much I love BCS but none of them seem particularly interested. One guy said he "couldn't get into it" which to me is totally confounding. This is one of the best shows on television. Last season was pretty slow but for me that's fine because it's about the characters. Maybe that's why people are tuning in? I guess it's not as salacious as house of cards or walking dead and there's not as many "oh shit!" Moments that can spawn a million internet articles.

For all its artistic merit, BrBa was very much an "action show." Someone always had a gun, or a bomb, or a box cutter, etc. I think that attracted a much wider audience, whereas BCS is much more quiet and slow and subtle.

That's starting to change, though. Maybe we'll see a ratings boost. I hope so.

Thing is there is so much good TV shows on right now there are plenty that aren't getting the attention they deserve. Black Sails just ended and it is one of my favorite shows of all time, didn't get tons of fanfare during it's run. Same for Leftovers and the Americans.

Too slow for some people. You have to be heavily invested before a lot of the suspense happens. I loved BB and was so excited to watch due to storyline... But remember being so underwhelmed first few episodes. Not by the writing just felt very slow. BB fans know exactly what to expect when they watch this show.

I've never seen the show and I've heard nothing but good things about it! but to be completely honest, I think the main reason it doesn't have the draw of Breaking Bad is that I had no what would happen to Walter — I have an idea of what happens to Saul. There might be some crazy shit that happens in his past, but if I know how the main character turns out, it makes it less intriguing for me.

I get this is the sub for this shows fans so you may be biased, but you're trippin, there are tons of good shows running. Fargo, the Americans, Silicon Valley, the Leftovers, Veep....basically any show with more than one season that's on FX, AMC, HBO, or Showtime.

Plus, this time of year is huge in sports so you lose a bit of viewership there. NHL and NBA playoffs are in full tilt. MLB is just kicking off. I also think Netflix is spoiling people releasing their shit all at once. I know people that don't really watch week to week then just binge it later unless it's some shit like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead were water cooler spoilers will kill it for you.

Because this is honestly typical of shows of this quality, and can be seen with other shows of this quality currently airing. The Americans, Fargo, The Leftovers, Legion, they all struggle with ratings.

People rarely watch high quality dramas like BCS in large numbers. Breaking Bad only ended up with a nice audience because of the Netflix push and the hype of its final season. It struggled for years with ratings.

I think season 1 was a little slow, that may have killed some of the wide appeal. Season 2 was great and season 3 is as well. Get the word out people!

Because it started kinda slow. Dont get me wrong i am fucking in love with this show and i love the pacing. But i know many people that complain about how nothing happens and abonded it. These are the people that watch really shit shows. They dont see how great its filmed. I mean its not only about WHAT is happening a huge part for me in BB and BCS is about how its all done. Perfect photography and everything but people that just care about the plot and just watch shows with one eye while browsing their phones and doing other stuff miss all the good shots and then are not getting into it. I personally cant understand this but i think as soon as there is more of this series even these people will pick it up.

I mean even BB was slow at the beginning. These first two seasons i myself was wondering why everybody got THAT hyped about it. But once you see it as a whole even the slow episodes are just perfect because you need time to develoup characters. If you want a really really good episode and want to really care about the characters you need the build up and once you rewatch it you will totally respect this. Reminds me often of electronic music that can be repetetive for the first minutes (aka boring) but once you know the whole song and know which melodie is about to come you even are in love with the first part thats "only" buildup.

The pacing of too slow and the main story is dull. The b story with Mike is good though.

Not unpopular but perhaps not entirely accurate. I'm leaning towards this is just an extension of BB from a different perspective giving the depth to the high power characters that would not have been possible before.

And let's face it, we know that once jimmy becomes Saul the hi jinx that ensues will be fun, but quickly lose its' novelty so more variety will be needed to sustain this for the likely 6 total seasons.

Looks like next episode will be all Jimmy, Kim, Chuck and Howard.

They're the best two characters in BrBa to get a show imo. But I really think just about every side character could have carried a show of their own, of course if Gilligan and Gould are heading it up.

I am just amazed that they have now produced 7.4 seasons in the same world with every season being very good. They haven't made a single season that was just good, they have been consistently awesome. This is what makes BCS/BB special for me. Other series have brilliant episodes and even brilliant seasons but this just keeps the consistency incredibly well.
