Can someone explain to me how pewdiepie has so many more subscribers to other popular gaming YouTubers? He seems like a decent bloke and a pretty funny guy but I just donโt understand how heโs treated like some kind of God

The push against t series really helped him. Other than that, I donโt really get it. I hate that most of reddit thinks of him as some God of YouTube when he makes decent content at best
Like most of the guys with big followings, he got into it early. I think his cartoonish voice and mannerisms helped him skyrocket, since most people that enjoy watching the streams are kids.
Think of it this way, you get YouTubers like ISorrowProductions, who cast a medium sized net into a medium sized pond. Heโs not the biggest, but nearly everyone in the hoi4 community knows who he is. Then you get youtubers like Jacksepticeye, who cast a big net into a massive ocean, and catch a lot of fish. Then PewDiePie, who throws a bunch of different nets into a bunch of medium to large sized ponds.

A few reasons:
Changed his style a bunch so picked up a bunch of subs for different content types that just never unsubbed when he switched again.
Was pushed hard on new users after signing up.
Trying to beat T-Series gained him literally almost 30 million subs.
