It's most likely because it's easier to push notify on an app, keep it running in the background, etc. But it's scumbaggy and those are also the reasons I don't want some crap app.

imgur has sucked for a while. I get it, they need to earn revenue, but it's slowing turning into tinypic. I wish they'd just burn an ad to the bottom of images they host, and then just allow direct image linking. I suppose finding sponsors willing allow their logos to be attached to random images would be hard.

For content on the /r/the_donald, they'll set the page up so that it doesn't index on google, and isn't visible without the direct link (other pics can be viewed on the imgur main page). And then sometimes they just straight up take down posts that their sensitive SJW admins don't like. They were doing that with /r/fatpeoplehate towards the end.

Until like two weeks ago I had a phone that was 1.5 years old--really not that old, right? Imgur slowly but surely got shittier and shittier until it would crash the Reddit app every fucking time. Something in the equation got shittier in a short period of time, and it wasn't my fucking phone.

I know I'm responding to a two-month-old comment, but this situation chaps my ass, even though I have a new phone now.

I actually have the imgur app, but I'm not going to use it just to view one image and go back to Reddit. It's really only useful for making albums. And that's only because the website sucks so badly at making albums, I gave up and installed the app.
