Why is there a Pizza Icon in the Explorer? I am on the latest Insider build and couldn't find anything online. Nothing happens If I click it

It's because Explorer is using a preview of the Window App SDK.

It means it's now using the future framework for desktop apps, that comes with WinUI 3. How does this impact the end user in a better way? It doesn't yet.

For now, it does:

  • no transparency effects in the right click menu iirc
  • slightly worse tab effect
  • some elements are slightly slower

I would recommend reading the patch notes of each insider build as they come out, they are posted here r/windowsinsiders and on the Feedback Hub app, as it can answer these questions and help you with known issues in the future.

It's just an indicator that you're testing the new version of File Explorer that's using WinUI 3. Right now, there's no visual differences between them, but I'm sure that's going to change later down the road as it gets further along in development.

Also I believe it's still in A/B testing. I have two PCs in the insider program and one got the new File Explorer while the other one didn't.
