Half-assing new UI elements every six months is probably easier than writing functional code.

It's actually pretty much the same (Search indexing itself). The thing is, they added more things to search as whole, as OneDrive, Bing, etc, and that's the problem.
IMO, it should be all integrated in "OneSearch", and you should be able to disable what you don't like (like macOS and even iOS already do).
So basically IMO, they should rewrite Windows Indexing lol

Can't make any of you clowns happy. Complain about the inconsistency, they attempt to make it better and then "All Microsoft cares about is UI. What is Microsoft doing?!" They do need to make search better though. It sux!

All I hear lately is UI, UI, UI, Fluent Design, UI. What about new search functionality? Did MS lose their Windows 7 source code?

And yet my launcher that hasn't been updated since 2011 does a better(and faster) job at searching for things I want than windows does.

Yep. Even works on a 4k screen, if you use the override scaling option.
