I compiled all of Windows Spotlight photos in an Imgur album for those who want them.

Nice job! Any chance of getting a Dropbox download or something similar? Imgur compresses images.

[deleted] · 20 points · Posted at 15:03:53 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Download SpotBright from the Windows Store. It pulls all the images from the server without any compressions. Plus they are in two sizes, for mobile and pc.

Here you go - This is the link to download the SpotBright app for Windows 10 that will allow you to download the ones available on your system.

For those who were asking for a direct download for all the images that SpotBright has found (on my system at least and not compressed) then here you go. It's a throwaway Dropbox link and should work fine. Any issues let me know. There are 343 images including both Landscape and Portrait versions of the images. Not sure why SpotBright downloaded an uneven numbers worth, but most should be there. Should be 256MB in size and 252MB in zipped format. Tried to use a Google Drive link, but for some reason I couldn't figure out how to make a publicly available folder that even people without Google Drive could download the whole folder.

Enjoy

[Update] The reason for the uneven number of images was due to the wallpaper of Kamchatka Krai (Камчатский край) only being available in Landscape mode for me and not portrait. Unable to find it. Sorry.

I'm on this sub because I'm thinking of building a PC soon, and right now all my computers are Macs. So again, any chance of a download link?

______DEADPOOL______ · 3 points · Posted at 18:39:26 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

I'm also interested on this link. Also the mobile version of these pics.

Roseysdaddy · 1 points · Posted at 22:46:38 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Downloaded through that app, on a 27", 1440p monitor, a lot of those pics have some bad compression.

TheGift1973 · 2 points · Posted at 23:13:24 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Really, sorry about that. They looked fine on my 24" screen. These were the images that the app downloaded and the size was unchanged for the images after having uploaded to DB.

Thanks for the dropbox links, for some weird reason i never get any windows spotlight images.

Watoh · 0 points · Posted at 19:52:03 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Thanks.. 1st time i've ever used a Windows App :)

w32sh · 16 points · Posted at 12:29:20 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Nice! For other who may not know, there is an app called SpotBright that gets all the Spotlight images from the server.

[deleted] · 5 points · Posted at 15:01:29 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Thank you! SpotBright is awesome! You get all the photos optimized for both PC and Mobile.

YW amzereus. Glad you loved it! Some one even wrote a simple Batch file with PowerShell script to backup the "Assets" folder, that can run from Startup. It's here at GitHub referenced by me here.

While this is nice and all, is there a site that has descriptions along with the images? I can't tell you how often I get a new picture on my lock screen and want to know more.

hashhar · 2 points · Posted at 07:49:12 on March 27, 2016 · (Permalink)

Yup, I guess this would suit you just fine.

If you have the UHD version, are your Spotlight images still 1080p or 2160p?

Yzakhiel · 3 points · Posted at 14:39:25 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Is there a way to download all of this in HD 1920x1080? This is amazing work thanks for this!

[deleted] · 2 points · Posted at 13:03:44 on February 9, 2016 · (Permalink)

SpotBright, like /u/w32sh said

Thanks

nok4us · 3 points · Posted at 15:56:04 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Just use spotbright universal app. U can download the images optimized for phone and it can set them as your lockscreen/startscreen and change automatically

[deleted] · 3 points · Posted at 17:15:48 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Can someone post a link where all of these can be downloaded in one file (zip or 7z)?

Sardonnicus · 3 points · Posted at 22:32:27 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Can we get these in 1440p??

[deleted] · 2 points · Posted at 15:00:46 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Just to let you guys know, there is an app in the store called Spotbright, that lets you download the wallpapers from spotlight.

Brilliant! Thank you xD

My favourite one is the rust looking bike in the woods.

That's awesome. Love the countryside/forest stuff.

HamzaAzamUK · 1 points · Posted at 17:16:06 on February 9, 2016 · (Permalink)

Yeah, it seemed to give the picture a vintage hippie feel, which I liked.

nagolol · 1 points · Posted at 12:16:52 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Nice. I use windows spotlight and haven't seem almost any of these.

Fuzzy112 · 3 points · Posted at 14:43:07 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Yeah mine repeats like the same 3 always :(

[deleted] · 10 points · Posted at 14:45:18 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Every fucking time I boot up my machine, I get the same background: rocks by an ocean cove. Every fucking time for over six months.

Degru · 2 points · Posted at 16:15:07 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Same here. It often takes around 5 weeks before it starts actually cycling through them, and then it's the same 3 cycling every couple days. Whatever code they use to switch them out is broken.

nagolol · 2 points · Posted at 03:21:55 on February 9, 2016 · (Permalink)

That's the same one I see all the time!

Horris_The_Horse · 1 points · Posted at 17:58:48 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

I'm the same as you. Not that it is a rubbish image, but how do you get it to cycle the images?

PurringWa1rus · 1 points · Posted at 21:12:52 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

That's the default image, Windows spotlight doesn't work off the bat from boot, you must log on first, then when you lock your screen spotlight will change the picture

DrPreppy · 1 points · Posted at 19:18:26 on February 9, 2016 · (Permalink)

Cold boot? Spotlight at this point requires a logged in user in order to function.

w32sh · 1 points · Posted at 17:18:18 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Ditto here. I clicked "Not a fan" twice (trying to repro someone's problem :( in the Lock screen and it stopped working right away. Got to find how to undo "Not a fan" setting.

w32sh · 1 points · Posted at 09:57:25 on February 10, 2016 · (Permalink)

Update: It started working from y'day. Don't know howto reset my Spotlight preferences (especially the "Not a fan" setting)

Beyond_Life · 1 points · Posted at 15:07:46 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

I wond how the third "Paint" image was made. It looks to digital and "made". I have a hard time believing it's photograph.

aarol01 · 1 points · Posted at 18:39:29 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Probably made with Paint :-------DDD

[deleted] · 1 points · Posted at 15:46:06 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Any way to find out the photo locations on these?

w32sh · 3 points · Posted at 17:16:35 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

For some images, the Details tab in Properties has some info on author and place. You eed to rename it to .JPG to see the meta-data in Properties.

[deleted] · 1 points · Posted at 05:21:42 on February 9, 2016 · (Permalink)

Thanks, but no luck with the image properties.

A reverse image search did it though, and now I know where I want to go on my next road trip.

infestedjoker · 1 points · Posted at 19:51:30 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

how can i take pictures like these, seriously this is amazing.

D-redditAvenger · 1 points · Posted at 20:26:17 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

This is nice.

Question is there a lock screen image changer?

I don't mean the log in image, but the actual lock screen that these spotlight pictures are on.

Not the slideshow or a one time change. What I am looking for is a utility that would let me select a folder or folders and change the image at every log on or once a day. That way the next time I log on the lock screen image would change.

Thanks

Spotlight is a huge plus for Windows 10.

Every morning dump there is a surprise waiting for me from Microsoft and the Pizza from the night before.

[deleted] · -6 points · Posted at 12:15:44 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Thanks... but what are these? Wallpapers for ants?

M_J_B · 8 points · Posted at 14:51:51 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

I'm getting 1920x1080 images from that album. Try right-click > "save as" and see if that works for you.

[deleted] · -12 points · Posted at 15:19:32 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

1920x1080

Exactly - we aren't all on phones

M_J_B · 10 points · Posted at 15:36:59 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

Maybe I misunderstood your comment. Are you saying that 1920x1080 is considered an uncommonly small resolution for desktop screens?

lucasban · 3 points · Posted at 21:25:07 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

1440p+ monitors aren't that common yet among casual users (or any users for that matter). If they were, we wouldn't see so many sites with crappy scaling behavior.

Um.. yes?

EDIT: Dang. I guess after 8.1 I should realise that most Windows 10 users are 7 upgraders nursing last-gen machines

toastyc12 · 7 points · Posted at 16:47:22 on February 8, 2016 · (Permalink)

You using a specific resolution does not make anying lower "uncommonly small". I believe the most common resolution found today is still either 1366x768 or 1024x768
