When the old man is telling his story about meeting Constance, after they move to their own home and he's building it, kids come to bully her because she's fat and in one of her fits she trips and falls in a hole and pulls the lever of a cement mixer as she falls. The cement pours over her. You don't really see her being buried in cement because the camera just shows you the cement pouring from the mixer down to where she is but you can imagine it. If the fall didn't kill her (might have if she was lucky) then she died drowning in cement just like this story.
That's why she controls the house. Her corpse ended up becoming part of the foundation of it. The heart, you could say. Then the kids find her body as a cement shell in the basement. The shell crumbles to show her bones.
If you still don't remember then you should watch it again. It might be animated but it's more horror movie than kid's film and it's surprising how dark and terrifying it gets!
Yeah, that's how I learned how the thing was called. I had never heard the word in English before and my first language is Spanish but I grew up with the slang term for it instead,"campanilla", which means 'tiny bell'. XD

This reminded me of the scene from Monster House of what happened to Constance. That scene always creeped me out so this one did as well!
