Fair enough but you are perhaps drawing a distinction between horror and cheap trick that other people don't have an issue with. Many things are horrible or horrific. Child Abuse and paedophilia are certainly among them.
There are different types of horror, shock, dread, the unknown and counteless others. Unfortunately the mechanic of only having 2 sentences will by it's very nature almost always favours shock. If you can create a haunting mood piece in 2 sentences you are a better author than I will ever be (although that might not be hard!!)
For the record the intended horror of the story you have commented is supposed to be the callousness of the father in question. Not the implied sex with a 14 year old. 14 is the legal age of consent in some countries and I chose that age specifically to be very borderline and make people feel uncomfortable. I could have said 8 year old in which case I think your point would be valid.

You're right, that's technically not paedophilia at all. I guess what I'm saying is that I think using sexual abuse is an easy way to craft a shocking second sentence, and an increasingly popular one.
However, you seem to understand the nuances of the matter, so I suppose I should be directing my comments elsewhere.

I know shock value gets updoots, but it wouldn't hurt to mix it up a little.

I have submitted 21 efforts to 2 sentence horror 19 of which don't follow the formula you are uncomfortable with.
