More or less. There's an interrogation technique known as 'Pride and Ego Up' where you (the interrogator) pretty much boost the subjects self esteem in hopes of getting a break. This is actually a pretty good video to explain a very simplified version of how that approach works psychologically.

In Canada it's been used as part of "Mr Big" investigations. The police organize a fake gang and initiate the suspect. The suspect is asked to confess the crime to the leader, Mr Big, to prove his worth and loyalty.
It's been found to be dubious at getting reliable confessions. The suspects will confess to anything to get Mr Big's approval
It's actually not too far off from reality. If the criminal doesn't see the guilt in what they did, they are more likely to confess it since they are proud of it

This is why I refuse to buy expensive things that the kids will use until they get older. Iโd rather these mistakes be teaching moments, without the stress of money.

Every now and then when i find a funny video i text it to my dad and he either approves it or doesnโt find it funny/understand it, so i am glad to tell you that this got the full DadStampโข๏ธ of approval
I donโt know if my little sister did it a lot when we were younger but now (Iโm 20, sheโs 18) sheโs a really good liar/good at convincing. Sometimes itโs quite scary. About a year ago she did something that I donโt quite remember (probably something along the lines of spilling something and not cleaning it while I wasnโt home and it was something I didnโt use). My mom, sister and I were in the kitchen having a light hearted conversation when mom asks who did it, all of us knowing full well it was her. My sister looked straight at me and says my name in a fake shocked voice. But it was so weirdly convincing even I stopped to think about it like โwait a minute..โ We all laughed about it then but that is still kind of a shock to think back about. Says something about both of us haha

But wait a few more years and have his kidโs teacher tell the mom that his son is lying at school and the mom will refuse to believe it, SHOCKED at the very IDEA that her child would lie.

Omg I am not referring to this child or this family at ALL. Iโm referring to how families en masse acknowledge that their kids lie when they are this age (this the popularity of these cute videos) but my experience of dealing with parents of older children has been that they are shocked at the proposition that their child has lied as if lying is something that only teenagers and adults have the ability to pull off. No my post was about how parents seem to forget between this age and school age that their children will and can lie freely and easily. I used to be a teacher and constantly had parents who refused to believe that their child could have possibly lied to them. I just had the thought while watching this video about how Iโve seen so many people post these types of videos and laugh about it and how itโs such a juxtaposition to my experience with people who cannot believe that their child would have learned the ability to lie at their age. Its funny because we literally start lying with conviction SO YOUNG.

I donโt know if my little sister did it a lot when we were younger but now (Iโm 20, sheโs 18) sheโs a really good liar/good at convincing. Sometimes itโs quite scary. About a year ago she did something that I donโt quite remember (probably something along the lines of spilling something and not cleaning it while I wasnโt home and it was something I didnโt use). My mom, sister and I were in the kitchen having a light hearted conversation when mom asks who did it, all of us knowing full well it was her. My sister looked straight at me and says my name in a fake shocked voice. But it was so weirdly convincing even I stopped to think about it like โwait a minute..โ We all laughed about it then but that is still kind of a shock to think back about. Says something about both of us haha
I donโt know why your comment reminded me of that moment. Maybe now Iโm wondering if Iโve ever gotten in trouble for her shenanigans when we were small

Unfortunately this isn't a tik tock cringe sub. I know it's really dumb. Plus it actually really sucks because by a comedy tik tok sub taking the name r/tiktokcringe it prevents a real community of people actually looking for and enjoying tik tok cringe from developing. Sure one could argue that folks can always make another sub dedicated to tik tok cringe but most people looking for such a community would find this sub first, see that it's not what it says it is and give up. These videos are so funny to me. Everyone will watch them and laugh at how readily and easily children will lie. But wait a few more years and have his kidโs teacher tell the mom that his son is lying at school and the mom will refuse to believe it, SHOCKED at the very IDEA that her child would lie.
B, children learn to lie and manipulate as soon as they are out of the womb. They are masters at it and wonโt hesitate to do it for a second.

I assume youโre referring to your experiences with parents, but how can you apply your anecdotal experience to this child? Plenty of parents DONT make excuses for their children, even though some do. Omg I am not referring to this child or this family at ALL. Iโm referring to how families en masse acknowledge that their kids lie when they are this age (this the popularity of these cute videos) but my experience of dealing with parents of older children has been that they are shocked at the proposition that their child has lied as if lying is something that only teenagers and adults have the ability to pull off. I was making a comment about parents and kids in general, not about this kid or this parent.

No my post was about how parents seem to forget between this age and school age that their children will and can lie freely and easily. I used to be a teacher and constantly had parents who refused to believe that their child could have possibly lied to them. I just had the thought while watching this video about how Iโve seen so many people post these types of videos and laugh about it and how itโs such a juxtaposition to my experience with people who cannot believe that their child would have learned the ability to lie at their age. Its funny because we literally start lying with conviction SO YOUNG.

I used to be a teacher too. High school, grades 9-10. Yes, kids start lying at a young age. The vast majority of them grow out of it if their parents discipline the behavior appropriately. Thereโs nothing wrong with pointing this out; I still donโt know why youโre accusing this childโs parents of being some teacherโs future nightmare. Do you think your good students never lied when they were little? Of course they did, they just werenโt enabled for years. Youโre assuming this child is โlying freely and easilyโ based on nothing. You donโt know if he got put in time out or what happened after this interaction.

All kids lie - the good kids, the bad kids, the kids with good parents and the kids with bad parents. My comment has nothing to do with discipline and I donโt think that this kid should be disciplined for lying.

The sub is called TikTokCringe . It would be assumed by anyone who finds this sub on Popular that this is a Tik Tok Cringe subreddit. It's really funny how the intentional mislabeling of this sub Reddit litteraly makes the Instagram a better source for Tik Tok cringe. Once again this sub is peak autism.
Edit: look at who the mods are for this sub and for r/tiktokhumor . It's clear as day that this subreddit has been hijacked because their other sub didn't get the traction they wanted. You're right that I care way too much about a stupid subreddit. I'm not debating that. Reddit is an awesome medium for content specific communities. I love cringe stuff and I love the phenomenon of TikTok cringe. I'm not going to actually download TikTok so it would be nice if there was a sub where I could hit "top posts of last week" and see the best cringe TikTok posts. And sure you can say, well make your own sub Reddit for TikTok cringe but 99% of people looking for such a community are going to assume that TikTokcringe is what they are looking for, be disappointed and not dig further. It's just a shame that having a "big" subbreddit is more important to mods than promoting it's namesake genre. It's very ass backwards that this sub effectively makes it more difficult for tik Tok cringe to be shared and enjoyed. But yeah you are right, I care way too much haha.
