It was Frederick that dropped the 'f' from the name to Americanize it. Prior to that, over 400 years ago, the family back in Germany changed its name from Drumpf to Trumpf. The German (Prussian) surname Drumpf which was 400 years ago is a variations of the same Surname, with the same French and Latin roots meaning to Triumph.
Making fun of Drumpf is literally making fun of his centuries dead ancestors who had changed their family name 400 years ago, its not even making fun of him. It doesn't make him look bad, it makes his haters look bad for having to resort to this level of horseshit. His polling numbers have INCREASED since Jon Oliver tried to force this meme.

I wasn't talking specifically about the name changing comment. But they do that too. Bring up nonsensical reasons as to why trump shouldn't be president and use the same excuse of comedy to defend themselves.
And this propaganda actually affects real life. It's not just comedy. These people actually influence votes with their misinformation and slander. It's even worse than a news organization because news are at least held somewhat accountable.
I remember seeing fox news attacking Jon Stewart for getting some things r wrong on his show so then he turned around and made fun of Fox news for getting stuff wrong to and he used himself as being a comedian as to why it doesn't matter if he got something wrong. Fox news wasn't able to make that excuse.
Then just look at how many late night political comedian talk shows are liberal. Almost none are conservative which gives an unfair advantage for liberals to be allowed to lie out their asses with no repercussions as they hide behind comedy.

The thing is virtually everybody in the US has changed their name compared to their grandparents. Virtually noone keeps their maternal surname. Hillary Clinton changed her own name to that of her husband. And her husband even changed his own name. Clinton isn't even anyone he's related to by blood.
See, the underlying rationale is the same, however - changing your name to better fit in to American society and business. Trump is the beneficiary of just such a decision, made by his ancestors.
Unless he believes such a thing so strongly that he's willing to change his name back to what it once was, poking fun at someone's name change simply because it's more recent is still hypocritical.

It's degrades womanhood to make it a mere cosmetic condition. Or to believe that the simple removal of a penis can make you "as female as a cis woman who was born infertile."

Liberals don't think people can't uplift themselves.
They believe that - in reality - it's easier for some people to uplift themselves based on race and gender. This wouldn't hold true in every single instance, but it would on average.
Their stance is about helping people who are disadvantaged, not "coddling the helpless."
Liberals might argue that Conservatives think less of, or look down upon, women and minorities considering that they tend to fight efforts that would help these groups.
However, I think that's because Conservatives disagree that these groups are at a disadvantage, not necessarily because they're racist or sexist.
and the most infuriating part of everything is that both sides (Lib and Con) use the other side's dumbest and least reasoned arguments to represent that whole side of the debate.
Like there's clear evidence showing black ppl DO actually have it shittier in several areas of life like healthcare, education, buying property, etc. Painting liberals who think the government should do something to correct these inequalities as "racists", "paternalistic", etc. is dumb. If you wanna debate the virtues of letting racism work itself out without gvmt, that's a very fair and reasonable argument to have. But it's not insane for liberals to want something to be done by the gvmt when (for one example out of MANY) black ppl are less likely to be given opiates in the ER for severe pain. They're also more likely to be put on meds before trying lifestyle changes. And studies have shown that doctors - while not racist people - do have internal biases that they're not consciously processing. Why is it bad to want government to help equalize that gap?

I've always found it really weird that they consider voter ID laws to be racist...like they believe that minorities are incapable of getting an ID or something.
I can explain that one for you. So first you have to look at real world effects of voter ID laws which is that minorities end up voting less. This is good for Republicans and profiting from disenfranchising minorities appears pretty fucking racist regardless of whether it's about fucking over black people, simply winning elections, or legitimately preventing election fraud. Now you are perfectly reasonable to ask the question, why the fuck can't minorities get IDs?! Well, in many cases they can, but the thing is it's not being black that makes it harder to get an ID, it's being poor that makes it hard. I recently renewed my ID in California and it cost me $88 plus I had to leave work for 2 hours. Now, for me, this wasn't a problem because I have car to drive to the DMV, and I have a salary so I can miss a couple hours so long as my work gets done. Now for a poor person that is working an hourly job for minimum wage and doesn't have a car, this is a huge problem. Minimum wage in CA is something like $8/hr, $88 is 11 hours of work, more than an entire days earnings. If they don't have a car, now they have to take a bus or call a taxi, more $ and now it's going to take longer than the 2 hours it took me, so let's say it's now 3 hours of lost income if they can get the time off or a whole 8 hour shift lost if their place of work won't let them do a short shift as is often the case. So $24 in lost income from labor and $4 for the bus, bring the total cost so far to $116 at least. So that's almost two full days of income lost for an ID card that will allow you do something that you have a constitutionally protected right to do. It comes down to being a voting tax that obstructs poor people, who tend to be minorities, from exercising their rights which benefits the political party that is advocating for the policy. Plus there is no evidence that voter fraud is even a problem. That's why it's seen as racist and sorry for the wall of text :/

I had this epiphany when reading a thread on /r/askanthropology about Aboriginal and Native American children who were kidnapped from their homes to be educated in order to be "civilized". You'd be wrong based on common usage of the terms. However, yes, conservatives usually hold more traditional values compared to liberals. But in general, conservative = right wing, liberal = left wing.
The terms liberal and conservatives have tons of definitions. They alter and change all through time and countries. What we refer to are American liberals and American conservatives of our times. That's why the definition is super general to describe it.

I know it's a broad generalization, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with either liberal or conservative logic as it applies to today's American politics. Conservative logic might be summed as a greater emphasis on individual liberty, being careful with money, and being skeptical of change that might disrupt economies or social structures, which are all valid and healthy ideas. Liberalism might be generalized as wanting to help communities and not only individuals, willing to take risks to make changes that can result in benefits, and willing to challenge social norms that it might view as outdated. Both are good philosophies that should be be contrasted with one another in the forms of debates and elections, both can be taken to silly extremes, and most people probably share a combination of conservative and liberal viewpoints (Trump is no exception).

It actually wasn't. Trump technically started bringing up the names, and so stewart found his original name. It may be somewhat of an apples to oranges comparison, but if you look at the dates, Trump started it.

A trans woman is as female as a cis woman who was born infertile (and there are lots of women born infertile).
The thing about most trans women (and trans men for that matter, nobody mentions them at all), is that we just want to live our lives.
I am trans myself. I just want to live my life, I don't just want attention, I just want to live a normal life.
There's a reason why the average life expectancy of a trans woman is 30 years, and that's because so many of us are either murdered or driven to suicide by living in an environment that is indifferent to us at best and openly hostile to us at worst.
That said, I can't stand Caitlyn Jenner, she's a hypocrite who should be in prison for manslaughter, and she's a horrible representation of us.

The claim that, by putting on a fake voice and with a bit of silicone and medication you can turn a man into a real women, is the most absurd thing I've ever known an adult to believe.
It's degrades womanhood to make it a mere cosmetic condition. Or to believe that the simple removal of a penis can make you "as female as a cis woman who was born infertile."

Liberals don't think people can't uplift themselves.
They believe that - in reality - it's easier for some people to uplift themselves based on race and gender. This wouldn't hold true in every single instance, but it would on average.
Their stance is about helping people who are disadvantaged, not "coddling the helpless."
Liberals might argue that Conservatives think less of, or look down upon, women and minorities considering that they tend to fight efforts that would help these groups.
However, I think that's because Conservatives disagree that these groups are at a disadvantage, not necessarily because they're racist or sexist.

Like there's clear evidence showing black ppl DO actually have it shittier in several areas of life like healthcare, education, buying property, etc. Painting liberals who think the government should do something to correct these inequalities as "racists", "paternalistic", etc. is dumb. If you wanna debate the virtues of letting racism work itself out without gvmt, that's a very fair and reasonable argument to have. But it's not insane for liberals to want something to be done by the gvmt when (for one example out of MANY) black ppl are less likely to be given opiates in the ER for severe pain. They're also more likely to be put on meds before trying lifestyle changes. And studies have shown that doctors - while not racist people - do have internal biases that they're not consciously processing. Why is it bad to want government to help equalize that gap?
I can cite the studies for anyone who is interested.

I can explain that one for you. So first you have to look at real world effects of voter ID laws which is that minorities end up voting less. This is good for Republicans and profiting from disenfranchising minorities appears pretty fucking racist regardless of whether it's about fucking over black people, simply winning elections, or legitimately preventing election fraud. Now you are perfectly reasonable to ask the question, why the fuck can't minorities get IDs?! Well, in many cases they can, but the thing is it's not being black that makes it harder to get an ID, it's being poor that makes it hard. I recently renewed my ID in California and it cost me $88 plus I had to leave work for 2 hours. Now, for me, this wasn't a problem because I have car to drive to the DMV, and I have a salary so I can miss a couple hours so long as my work gets done. Now for a poor person that is working an hourly job for minimum wage and doesn't have a car, this is a huge problem. Minimum wage in CA is something like $8/hr, $88 is 11 hours of work, more than an entire days earnings. If they don't have a car, now they have to take a bus or call a taxi, more $ and now it's going to take longer than the 2 hours it took me, so let's say it's now 3 hours of lost income if they can get the time off or a whole 8 hour shift lost if their place of work won't let them do a short shift as is often the case. So $24 in lost income from labor and $4 for the bus, bring the total cost so far to $116 at least. So that's almost two full days of income lost for an ID card that will allow you do something that you have a constitutionally protected right to do. It comes down to being a voting tax that obstructs poor people, who tend to be minorities, from exercising their rights which benefits the political party that is advocating for the policy. Plus there is no evidence that voter fraud is even a problem. That's why it's seen as racist and sorry for the wall of text :/ Edit: bummer I got a down vote but no response, if you disagree I'd love to hear an argument, got no problem being challenged and discussing these things. It's obviously not a simple subject. And I could be wrong, I love being proven wrong, makes me smarter.

I had this epiphany when reading a thread on /r/askanthropology about Aboriginal and Native American children who were kidnapped from their homes to be educated in order to be "civilized". The people doing the education seemed like liberals of today - they had good intentions, felt these Natives were humans just like them and deserved dignitiy etc etc but went about helping them in the most fucked up and counterproductive way possible. It reminds me of the view on affirmative action and welfare policies that Larry Elder talks about.

No, that's not it at all. Progressivism is about a certain kind of change and a certain vision of progress. It's all bullshit though. We've had progressive's for several decades now and they can't tell you where they're going. It's always the next random thing they want to go after. That's why you can have liberals in the 90's advocating for DOMA and the same damn people a decade later calling people like their supposedly former selves bigots. liberal used to mean someone who espoused personal freedom and liberty, now it means the opposite.
The modern meaning of the word 'liberal' in america means someone who wants to expand the size of government and force higher taxes on everyone.
Trump is probably what is known as a classical liberal, liberal democrat, or liberal conservative. He wants smaller government, and lower taxes. He also has a nationalist flavor to his campaign.

I know it's a broad generalization, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with either liberal or conservative logic as it applies to today's American politics. Conservative logic might be summed as a greater emphasis on individual liberty, being careful with money, and being skeptical of change that might disrupt economies or social structures, which are all valid and healthy ideas. Liberalism might be generalized as wanting to help communities and not only individuals, willing to take risks to make changes that can result in benefits, and willing to challenge social norms that it might view as outdated. Both are good philosophies that should be be contrasted with one another in the forms of debates and elections, both can be taken to silly extremes, and most people probably share a combination of conservative and liberal viewpoints (Trump is no exception).
